The widespread nature of the fires has impacted communities across different wealth levels and social classes
I can only hope that in 10 years they saved up money so that they can move and find other work. two words: food stamps.
Unfortunately unemployment benefits are only $450 per week in California, which is ridiculous! The amount hasn’t changed in over 30 years!

If they were surviving mostly on tips from millionaires, what was their actual wage, which the Unemployment will be based on? I've seen all these people with their sob stories on TV, and then you see they have GoFundMe's set up and they're getting 10s of thousands of dollars in donations.

The sad reality is when something like this happens you don't have time to mourn and heal. You have to hit the ground runny and find employment and a place to live before your savings runs out and you're living in your car to be just another homeless person.
Take all the free stuff you can while people still care . You have a week before the new cycle drops this story.
There goes the population of California. Hard working young couple. Gainfully employed, long time employees. Gone. California is impossibly expensive. The depth of this disaster will last for decades. All infrastructure lost.

I live 50miles north of them, out of immediate fire danger. The psychological trauma of just seeing from distance took toll. Bless them. Give them grace to process it all. Imagine your work and neighborhood gone. Not like they can take a stroll on the beach and get away. Air quality not good anyways. I have faith better things will come to them. God doesn’t give you more than you can carry.

There will be jobs starting with cleanup of the lots followed by reconstruction of houses and businesses for years to come. Survive the next few weeks and then start down a new path. Good luck to you both.
Many people are affected by this, not just "rich" people like so many people ranted on the web. Every community has groceries, restaurants, stores, waiters, clerks, babysitters, teachers those people work there, some live them. So sad and tragic.
Post disaster relief is always a hurdle.
Post Biden will be a hurdle. Bidens admin layered energy requirements on. Now to get a FHA loan you have to meet energy requirements. that means 10's of thousands more in costs to a home.
FHA was hard back in the 80's....but Biden just made it even HARDER

With a body of water just below the restaurant, you would thing they could have set up a pump and hose system to use during the fire to douse the flames.

It’s not just homeowners that lost their house. Businesses are gone and so is their employment.
There's something called UNEMPLOYMENT you worked for it, plus it will give you some time off to rest and process everything that incompetent California leaders failed to do. 😒

I am 100% sure they have applied at EED. However, the $900 (both together) a week doesn't cut it in the area they are living.
They may end up having to move to another city/location.
Palosades/Malibu eventually will rebuild, but won't have enough workers like them to fill the jobs.

I am so, sorry that you are going through this. I am on the East Coast, and haven't experienced that; However I recently experienced job loss unexpectedly!🙏
I hope this couple gets the assistance that the need. They are unemployed through no fault of their own. If FEMA can't help, hopefully the local governments will. It was nice to hear their sweet love story, though, and that was a beautiful view from the restaurant. Best of luck to them. ✨🍀💖🍀✨
This disaster and others have a ripple effect that will be felt by many beyond the actual home owners for many years to come. It’s a shame.
This is really sad. There should be FEMA support for the working class people who lost their livelihoods. Something is seriously wrong in this country.
This is devastatingly heartbreaking. It is so horrible the government doesn’t come in to do something. I pray for this family and all the victims that life puts them on a prosperous and abundant path so that some day there will be a meaning for all of this.

This reporter didn’t even listen to what they said about FEMA. The woman explained up front that FEMA doesn’t apply to employees, so why did she ask them eight minutes into the interviewwhether they had applied?
The Labor Department must take a stand to help displaced workers. California Senators must go to Congress and fight for these Americans.
Honestly they need to bring back kit homes and have regular people help rebuild the whole community.
I like how the wife is beaming. Such positivity will float this relationship and their future.

Than is exactly what I see and was talking about the people who worked in those areas that burned down. It's the same in North Carolina, they didn't just lose their homes, they lost their business they had and own, the business they work for is all gone..... same with you, those million dollar homes also employed gardeners, nannies, housekeepers, the nursery they buy from for their lawns, car wash etc..... and all those business that burned down had employees that came from other cities to work there..... There is also a lot of homeowners who lived there that bought in 30 - 40 years ago that live there who are not millionaires and living on their retirements and now have to face high prices of rent and may not be able to afford it...... a lot of people was affective, not just the ones who lost their homes.

Everyone needs a voice and to be listened to. There are varying degrees of loss and anxiety being experienced. I hope these two land on their feet in due course. File your unemployment claim immediately. Keep aware of various job opportunities coming with the clean up and rebuilding. A lot of workers are needed to take care of other people and maybe similar skills in organizing and serving people in the restaurant will be in demand.
But they still have a HOME- do they mean a house? They could possibly rent it some space and make even more than they did as servers. Just a thought
