Hi guys. I've been building all my life and angle grinding dust is a nightmare! My son has recently purchased a skilsaw with a hose attached. Dust Free. Brilliant. So, this got me thinking. Back on my own Angle Grinder and the wife applying a very light spray from the hosepipe as I grind. Works a treat! It's taken me 50 years of building to learn this simple trick. It works perfectly. Try it! 😊👍💯
Living for these weekly uploads. You guys are not work shy at all. But make sure you have at least one day off from filming/renovating/editing. Don't burn out 🫶🏼
Great video, take care with textured ceilings as usually asbestos in older properties. Speedfit pipes require inserts for push fit fittings & bonding coat can act like a sponge the internal of external walls.
Wow - you've done sooo much this last week. I think you've done the right thing by moving the stairs rather than the front door. Having them more central just makes sense so you can access upstairs easily from the kitchen rather than always walking through the whole house each time. Also you wouldn't be able to have the upstairs layout as you wish with them at one side. And your professional architects that you have used and taken advice from obviously know what they're doing. We have the oak and glass staircase which we highly recommend. We got it from Stairbox. Lets the light shine through especially good for when it's in the middle of the room and will seem more spacious and it looks very high-end. And glass is so much easier to keep clean with a squirt of Windolene rather than needing a bucket of soapy water to clean off grubby handprints from spindles or a painted wall! Alfie's tiling looks top-notch. It's obvious that he's been doing this sort of thing for some time. Viewers should not let his youthful looks belie his years of experience. Your garden is massive!! Can't wait to see next week's installment 😁😁❤❤
I recently worked on a house and they were fitting a staircase that probably would be something you may like. It was Stairplan oak xray vision or something like that, basically oak and glass. The quality was amazing and even with plain plastered white walls, the entrance was phenomenal. I plan on having one in my next house project. The builder fitted it and was done in a day, I didn't hear much swearing, so must have been quite straight forward.
Get yourself some disposable shower caps like they have in hotels. Not a glam look but great for when you’re doing dusty jobs or applying drippy stuff above you. Alternatively a beanie reserved for such occasions would work.
I always love the energy you show in these videos! Nice to see how much you enjoy doing the work! Two pieces of advice: If the brickwork on the outside is in as good a shape as it appears in the videos, do NOT plaster it! Plastered external walls need regular maintenance - whereas a well built brick wall needs none. Our house is from the 60's but except for two places where I managed to damage it it looks almost like new - whereas the neighbour who plastered his house has an exterior wall that is in bad need of redoing and already was less than two years after he did it. Also, you risk getting less for the house when you sell it - If a wall is plastered it is a lot harder to determine the state it is in, and often plastering is used to hide poor brickwork. Second, be sure to get that bathroom well ventilated - if not you risk mould - and a damp room is a lot more at risk than say a living room...
Wow! You two are really going at it hammer and tongs. That garden is huge and will need a lot to keep on top of it while doing the rest of the work. Fun.
Great progress….. literally smashing it out! Can’t beat knocking an internal wall out….. it’s the law you have to karate kick at least one bit of it 🤣. Wow what a garden! I was trying to work out the levels to see if you had any options of taking the garage out and thinking of rebuilding something behind the house? Maybe the plots too narrow? Don’t know where your timeline is in YT land but I hope you’ve been water tight over the last week 🤞. I was thinking of starting to build an Ark up here in the Midlands. Well done & Keep it up ❤👍
Ahahah building an Ark- now that is a DIY project! 100% the law to karate kick the wall, felt unbelievable. We’re not actually back logged at all on UA-cam at the moment, so you’re completely up to date! See you next week 😅👋🏻
Wow, you have had a busy week! You've done so much. Taking the wall down has made a massive improvement. Alfie is a cracking tiler. The lads did an awesome job of the garden. Everyone has worked so hard 👏 Can't wait for next weeks video. Take good care ❤x
Hi Nicky and Harry. We replaced our spindles, bannisters and newel posts using white American oak from Jackson Woodturners of Sheffield. As we replaced the stair parts during the last covid lockdown over Christmas, we weren't able to visit their showroom so took a chance ordering on line. The delivery was on time, parts well packaged and quality second to none. They also supply glass panels. We also found that they were competitive when it came to pricing. Hope this helps.
Watching from New Zealand. Throughly enjoy watching your videos and can’t wait to watch them over my Monday morning cup of coffee. So looking forward to next week. Keep up the great work guys.

Both it may already be in your plan but if not can I suggest you consider at some stage getting a good clean completed on the roof tiles (particularly at the front of the house), honestly it will seriously impact the look and refresh the whole house. If you are planning to sell it will be worth the work. Guys B&Q or Wicks sell a proper Floor protector an d its cheap and reusable if you ever need this again, I used it to protect my bathroom floor and it is great. Also be mindful that Ceiling Artex will very probably have an Asbestos content given the age of the house.

Just watching your videos gives a great insight into the process and the pointers you add in are a huge help. Looking forward to seeing the rest of your renovation project - I'll be back next sunday!
With the kitchen extension i can not rember if you said it would be level with the house or not but if its level with the house you could always do a raised patio with steps leading down into the garden off it made out of bricks of some sort and it could be fit with some nice pavers a fire pit and seating and maybe a grill! Its just a thought i had when you showed the back of the plot and how mush room you had :)
Great content. I love watching your renovation progress. I am not sure if I missed it, but I didn't see you prepping for a bathroom fan. I hope that you are planning to put one in. Also if not too late please put it on its own switch don't wire it to the lights. I hate the sound of the fan when there is no need for it and it looks better thought out from sale point of vew. I agree about a previous comment, as a parent I would never put glass on the stairs it is just another chore added to my list to keep clean.
Now there’s no window, consider putting a ceiling extractor in their whilst the floor is still up above it, vent it out of the wall inbeween the floor joists or depending on the height where it comes out, vent it back down through the soffit also bear in mind where the extension is going
loving the videos- but Pushfit fittings should not be covered over in plaster. The o ring needs to be energised for them to seal and that can involve a small amount of movement in the pipes. If the pipes can't move the fraction required, you run the risk of a leak. all the best !!
Just out of interest did you have an Asbestos survery before doing any work? I thought Artex celinings of this era are usually riddled with the stuff! Love the video by the way, so excited for the journey!
Looks good. Just to let you know you need to put pipe inserts inside JG Speedfit pipe at every connection, this stops the pipe from deforming and ensures it seals. Here is the screwfix code: (18100). I know its probably a bit late now though but it will likely cause problems later.
Luckily we realised our mistake and resolved it before the plasterer came - annoyingly it’s these little things we can’t always get on camera and explain completely!
Loving the regular uploads, great to see your progress each week. I can recommend stairbox for your stairs but building regs requires a max incline of 40 degrees so you may have to take a bit from that wall.
What if you put the staircase along the front bedroom wall/hallway? Then it wouldn’t take part of the living room area. You could move the bedroom door to the little nook where the other bedroom door and bathroom door is. And move the living room/utility room wall over a few feet for a wider hallway.
Smashing it out this week! 🔨⚒️🔨 I thought your open plan room looked quite good... have a good think about your stairs. Leave the floor tiles until last next time, no point risking damaging them! 😵
Haha the getting sissy over lost tools had us lollllling, that's us on the reg 😅😅. You guys are flying, we'll played lads, what a week! Skillshare is class! ❤
Enjoy watching your videos guys, can’t help thinking that 2 ensuite bedrooms are necessary upstairs? One master bedroom with ensuite and then 2 other bedrooms would save you installing 2 bathrooms upstairs and free up 2 rooms downstairs as a large lounge and office? Just a thought. 70k isn’t a huge budget so by doing away with 1 ensuite it’ll save you some money to spend elsewhere
Have you considered moving the front door to the end of the property instead of moving the staircase? Might wreck your double en suite plans and waste space upstairs for a corridor but would probably give you a bigger and better layout downstairs.
100% - especially burying them before you’ve connected everything and tested for leaks - which you can’t when plumbing a shower so always best having soldered pipework.
Hi have you thougĥt about using waterproof bathroom panel. I had a wet room done in my sister and friend had it done no grouting no plastering and easy to clean its worth a look ❤
Great content. But just curious, Why did you close the only window in this tiny bathroom before even preparing for tiling? The sunlight & ventilation could have help you for better installation & precision. You could easily close it later once shower enclosure is to be fitted or at tiling stage. If i am correct there was no plumbing at that wall on top where the window was.
Just the added cost, that we weren’t bothered about. Cost of new window, lintel etc and we both grew up with a family bathroom with no window so to us it didn’t feel necessary!
Staircase from Stairbox - they have a design tool that is foolproof (as long as your measurements are correct!) and they help you with design if you need. Cheap as well. Then don't buy any spindles and get the glass from somewhere else (can't recommend though, sorry!)
Taking shape, I wonder if the upstairs room-in-the-roof was added later and not original? which would explain the staircase shoehorned into the lounge.
Best place to get an affordable set of stairs are stair box and you can order all of the parts from there too to match and then just cut some templates out of cardboard for the glass and then take to your local glass place they will cut the glass using ur template
Wow what a huge garden u’ve got! It looked so small in the beginning. Well done 🎉Looking forward for the next video already 🎉 P.S. Never liked grey tiles I am always for spanish colourful tiles but hopefully it’ll look 👍 good
We hope so too, I’m sure when she’s finished she’ll look a lot more welcoming, when it’s half finished it’ll never look fantastic! It is a big ol’ garden 😅
Just the added cost, that we weren’t bothered about. Cost of new window, lintel etc and we both grew up with a family bathroom with no window so to us it didn’t feel necessary!
Ahh guys I’m really worried about how much dust you’re inhaling. Could you spend 5 mins to read about silica dust and the harm it can cause you? You’re going great and I’m pleased you’re making progress but I’m very concerned about your health risks. You need either an extraction method for the dust and much better PPE dust masks. This isn’t a lecture - just want you to stay safe and not end up suffering later in life. Take care, all the best :) Silicosis is a form of occupational lung disease caused by inhalation of crystalline silica dust. It is marked by inflammation and scarring in the form of nodular lesions in the upper lobes of the lungs
Thanks for this Alex, you’re really not wrong- we know we do really need to get better with PPE. We’ve just invested in some more bits- proper dust masks with filters etc (although they may not be here for the next video as it’s a bit staggered- so don’t hate us if it’s a similar situation in the next one!) 😅
I worry so much about this. I’m a plumber and I’m constantly chasing out walls plaster and so on. I wear a mask and sometimes a hoover attached to my chaser. Other times just a dust mask and grinder. I don’t suppose an x ray or anything would show any problems. I’m so worried about it. I’ll have a shower and my nose will be a bit black even with a mask
We didn’t have the right drill bit, and to save us buying it for one hole, the electrician is doing it for us this week! And he’s pretty sure he won’t crack the plaster
Don't mean to be a downer but surely you're supposed to foam your pipes in the walls to prevent your plaster from cracking due to expansion and contraction. Also if that speed fit leaks, you wont know about it till it's too late!
Our plumber came before the plasterer plastered to check the pipes with his special kit - unfortunately it’s so hard to get every last detail of what we’ve done in the week into one 20 minute video! Thank you for your concern!
I just hope they're okay with not being able to check they're water tight before tiling over them.... 😬 Edit. Also just realised they didn't use any waterproof tile backer boards behind where the shower is going to be ... 😯
What made you choose grey walls and marble like floor in bathroom? Wouldnt the opposite way have made the bathroom seem larger than it really is? Also yhea, hooly, didnt expect you have so much room in your backgarden
This video featured bags exploding en masse 🤪 Also a bit of information: I think you bought that quartz countertop for the bathroom months ago - or a month ago, but point is before we knew about it, so no matter - but for the future, I read an article recently that the quartz manufacturing sector is the latest sector exploiting and damaging the health of its workers. A lot of them are illegal migrants so unfortunately, more vulnerable. It seems that quartz is not a completely natural material, so a lot of chemical washing is needed in its manufacturing process. It CAN be produced cleanly and without endangering the manufacturing workers, but most companies want to profit, so don't invest in the proper safety measures and training. So yeah, check the origin of the quartz if you choose to go for it in the next space, or better yet, seek out limestone (which is cut straight from the quarry). Just sharing the knowledge as hubby and I are looking at options for our kitchen reno and it looks like we'll have to just go for laminate...
Hope you guys enjoyed ❤ Don't forget, the first 500 people to use our link will get a 1 month free trial of Skillshare". skl.sh/nickyandharri09241
These 2 are doing better production than Homes under the hammer with bbc's endless budgets. Unbelievable.

Yeah always enjoying these now good job. Also yeah like the rest say protective gear to avoid any lung issue should be fine.
You really don’t want to use speed fit buried in a wall or anywhere you can’t get to to replace them when and I mean when they leak.
100% - especially burying them before you’ve connected everything and tested for leaks - which you can’t when plumbing a shower so always best having soldered pipework.
Sad to see that second large tree come down. But clearing out the back garden made a huge difference 👍🏻

Try stair box they have a nice stair builder which you can play around with what fits and looks 👌
@@reecephillips17 yup!
Quick tip, when chasing don't struggle with a small chase make it abit bigger.
Factttss 👍🏻
Hi Nicky , Hi Harri nice to see you both 😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊
♥️♥️♥️
Hi guys the tilt in the bathroom are looking so good you both have work so hard have a lovely week 😊😊😊😊
Hey Andrew 👋🏻 thank you we appreciate you!
Great video
Thanks Jeff!
Looks like a nice bathroom but why not at least have a small window above the toilet for ventilation?
Just the added cost, that we weren’t bothered about. Cost of new window, lintel etc and we both grew up with a family bathroom with no window so to us it didn’t feel necessary!
@@NickyandHarriI also think there’s no need for a window only a ventilation installed somewhere on top
That's what I was thinking 🤔
A bathroom without a window should be a criminal offence in my opinion!
Love the video?I didn't notice you putting inserts into the pipes or clips on the push fit fittings ?
You noticed correctly🤣 luckily we had a brain wave a few hours later, and rectified it🤣 could have been a real problem had we not realised!
@@NickyandHarri glad you've sorted it guy's, good luck with the build ,look forward to the next video,👍🏽
Take care, all the best :)
Silicosis is a form of occupational lung disease caused by inhalation of crystalline silica dust.
Looking sharp guys! You're really hooking in and cracking on! 🎉 At this rate you'll be done by Christmas! 😂😂 (j/k) Have a great week! ❤
In by Christmas 😂 Thanks as always Kit 🥰
Love the bathroom progress. I am sure you are doing this, but where is the hole for your extractor fan, just curious
We didn’t have the right drill bit, and to save us buying it for one hole, the electrician is doing it for us this week! And he’s pretty sure he won’t crack the plaster
In future put end caps on the pipes as it stops debris getting into them and possibly into your water
Good idea, thanks!
Go on harri, get that bod out!! 💪 another great video folks 👏
🤭🤭🤭
Don't mean to be a downer but surely you're supposed to foam your pipes in the walls to prevent your plaster from cracking due to expansion and contraction. Also if that speed fit leaks, you wont know about it till it's too late!
Our plumber came before the plasterer plastered to check the pipes with his special kit - unfortunately it’s so hard to get every last detail of what we’ve done in the week into one 20 minute video! Thank you for your concern!
@@NickyandHarriu can make videos longer, it’ll be always appreciated 🎉
Now that you're on your second house reno do you feel house bullds are just a bigger version than van builds? Or are they feeling totally different? 😊
@9.00 you didn't put a pipe insert into the twin wall pipe for the 90⁰
Use water for the dust when drilling into the wall just throw water everywhere on the wall
You really need to be wearing respirator full face mask, brick/plaster dust is really bad for your lungs 😘
You’re so right - buying this this week!
Yes there will be asbestos particles used as binding agents in the building materials.
No glue on those water pipe connectors?
push fit
I just hope they're okay with not being able to check they're water tight before tiling over them.... 😬
Edit. Also just realised they didn't use any waterproof tile backer boards behind where the shower is going to be ... 😯
Push fitttt
What made you choose grey walls and marble like floor in bathroom? Wouldnt the opposite way have made the bathroom seem larger than it really is?
Also yhea, hooly, didnt expect you have so much room in your backgarden
Perhaps🤣🤣 done it now though😅 yeh it’s a hugeeee garden
@@NickyandHarri that said, i have no idea, how it would look with 2/4 floors painted, so maybe it was the right call :) quess we will see :)
Hi guys love your videos Geoff Liverpool
Hey lovelies,
Please please , wear mask and eye protection…
You are both beautiful and we don’t want you to get any rare cancer from the dust….
Thank you Yvonne, we try!😅🥹♥️
Don't go with glass on the staircase. Looks nice agreed but if you have children it's nightmare for cleaning 😅
It’s funny because we would never even think of stuff like this… but very smart 😂
This video featured bags exploding en masse 🤪
Also a bit of information: I think you bought that quartz countertop for the bathroom months ago - or a month ago, but point is before we knew about it, so no matter - but for the future, I read an article recently that the quartz manufacturing sector is the latest sector exploiting and damaging the health of its workers.
Interesting Red, we have no idea about quartz and where it actually comes from! We’ll do some research, but thanks for watching! 🥰
