Nike's implosion has left a lot of room for other brands to step up and innovate. It's kind of a cool time for sneakers honestly now that one brand doesn't dominate and oversaturate.
Yea nah lad.. ASICS in Australia have always been number 2 to Nike & I’d argue over the past few years they go on a cycle of both being 1 & 2… the rest of the world is only now seeing how good they look combined with comfort wich Australia’s been on for over a decade
That’s true but you see Nike trying to go at retro running shoes as well with the Vomero 5 and P6000. Some of those colorways for those two models go hard too. I’m all in, I’m not tie to one brand. I got some Mizuno, ASICS, New Balance, Nike and Adidas for sneakers. 👟
Two amendments: 1.Asics was very popular around 2015. They had a whole bunch of highly coveted collabs. 2. The revival of Asics is for the majority due to the collabs and later partnership with Kiko Kostadinov. His vision and earlier collabs steered Asics away from the gel lyte III to the tech runners with fashion appeal. New Balance is very vanilla and Asics in that way is a step towards more fashionable sneakers. So the next trend after ASICS probably continues in this upwards direction though I think the samba and gazelle trend shouldn’t be overlooked.
Crazy how times changed. Back in 2007. If you worked ASICS here in California. You were either known as the Hardcore runner for the track team 🏃 or the ultra nerd. Funny how times changed. Shoutout to the ASICS Geo Nimbus 26 or 25. I use them for recovery runs but when you walk on them they feel like you are wearing just socks and memory foam underneath your foot. Hard to pull if off with skinny jeans but baggy and or shorts go well. 👍
I make a point of wearing a different sneaker every day. However, I’ve recently been breaking that rule for my ASICS 1130. They’re just so damn comfortable for any period where you’ll be on your feet
Great review. For me, the Gel Lyte III and especially the V’s are the true OG’s. Grew up in the 90’s wearing them, since they were at a better price point than Jordan’s. Lots of great collabs over the years. The newer models, 14’s, 2160, NYC and 1130’s are much more of a comfort shoes like you mention… but can’t go wrong with the styling if the OG Gel Lytes.
I bought these off goat, I love them. I have half studios asics as well, the navy ones. Think I’m set on asics for a while but I love having variety. So comfy too. Earls would be cool as well🧼
I got my pair in few weeks ago and I will say it's my favorite Gel NYC so far and the Gel NYC is my favorite model right now. So, I'm just glad to see them do more collabs on that model since there really isn't many for the NYC.
I’ve always known asics as running shoes and that’s kinda it, but the past few years I’ve copped a couple pairs for casual wear. I guess with the right colorway some of these shoes really do look great.
Probably the most comfortable box fresh straight to feet brand on the market? My favourite collabs from recent times are the Hal Studios ones. All 3 colour ways are 🔥
As a hiker and long distance walker who pronates, I love ASICS for their stability running shoes of the GT-1000, GT-2000 and Gel-Kayano series. The "SportStyle" section hasn't really impressed me yet. Some models are far too narrow in the midfoot and had to be sent back, or are flat out overpriced or sold out in my size. That said, this colorway is pretty nice.
Am not at all into retro runner aesthetic, but I appreciate the competition. One would think it'd have led to Nike cutting prices but its not working like that at all lol.
I reckon those Balenciaga Runners had some influence on the larger fashion market growing into Asics and then the New Balance reissue runners and the current runner trend. The Balenciagas came out around when the Kayano 14 was reissued and that Balenciaga looks like a mutated version of it.
ASICS also have started a skateboarding line. About a year ago or so. The ASICS skateboarding model “Japan pro”are a great shoe either for skating or just casual wear. Similar to what Nike has done to their SB dunks. It’s a “Japan S “ model with mods made to preform better for skateboarding.
ASICS has been a staple in Australia for over a decade only second to the Nike TN, from searchers to graffiti writers all the way to rappers & organised crime kingpins. ASICS always have & always will be an Aussie classic, but the better silos tho not these gammon ones the yanks are obsessed with.. gel quantum 360/180, Kinsei OG, kayano 20, Gel1130 & many more. Jus like the TN, the world is only now jus seeing ASICS potential for dope CWs & how beautiful they are.. better late than never I guess ☝🏼🤷🏽
@@javierlandaverde4108 I do actually have a pair of the Gel Kyano pack. I looked the ones I have up. They're the Gel BND zebra print ones. I got em on some out of the box type ish. They go hard
Nike and adidas will always be on top. ASICS is trendy right now it will go away but I’d like to see more brands like new balance and asics bring back a lot of cool y2k and 90s models from the vault same models are getting played out. My favorite asics models are the kayano 14 and 1130s.
Affordable but nice just like newbalance but people caught on too late almost because every pair i have when i look them up they all seem to be sold all the way out
I dont even have anything against Nike.......but good grief did they oversaturate the market and make me sick of them as a brand. If I never see another pair of dunks I will die a happy man.
When bigger companies don’t listen the other companies will. Also most people don’t want to spend their rent on a pair of half ass made shoes because of grimy resellers who are mouth breathers. I recently picked up a collab with puma and Cheetos suede and also the puma suede PlayStation collab. Other brands are coming for the crown
Wow interesting. I'm wondering what makes them popular now. I was in highschool from 1999 to 2003 in Baltimore MD and if u wore Asics you would get cracked on soo hard. They were like payless shoes. Totally unpopular to us. Interesting
If anyone is bored and watches old T.V. I started Little people Bigworld Show started in 2006. The whole family besides the dad lives in Samba. In 2006. Lmao When they go to little people conventions. The dorks are rocking these kind of asics. Again. We even me I wasnt buying these kind of asics to style. And Im still not!!
@@sneakernomics5547 you were probably drunk while reading it. The take was in 2006 the shoes that are popular today, or stylish... were common on feet of the average consumer.
