Sometimes the line between genius and insanity becomes so blurred that even the best of intentions creates unimaginable horror. Keep bringing us horrors and wonders, @Matthew Santoro! I look forward to every upload!
Being a nurse, I've heard about some of these sickos, but there were others on this list that terrified me. I just sat in awe of the amount of cruelty done in the name of science. How horrible!
Absolutely love your channel Knowledge Whale! I love finding out new information through your videos! I don't really know if Harlow can be deemed as a "mad" scientist though. He was doing it for research purposes on nature versus nurture.
I feel like 'Dr. Ian Malcolm (Jeff Goldblum)' from "Jurassic Park" said it best, "...scientists were so preoccupied with whether, or not they could, they didn't stop to think if they should". That's probably the best description for the majority of these scientists. Was that particular experiment worth it? Did it benefit society in anyway? What was the point and what was the cost? Love your videos Mat!
Been following you for a number of years. At least 2015-2016. Always loved ya. Recently been binge watching some older videos, have always loved your goofiness, and fun loving personality. HOWEVER I am loving your newer videos where you are more down to earth and relaxed
I was thinking the same thing like how would those scientists like the exact same thing they were doing to those poor animals done to their sorry asses
.....I stopped what I was doing when Matthew Santoro posted a UA-cam video way back in 1986. You see I was a Nuclear Engineer for a city called Pripyat. When I got sidetracked by his new video which caused the Chernobyl incident, and even to this day Stalker Members are after me in Ukraine............ .....Also I am a time Lord so see you in October 23, 2077 when Matt posts again. Hopefully I don't screw up this time..... (9:13 am on October 23, 2077 at a top secret Vault Tech Military Base) .....Well time to get back to work......Oh wait Matthew Santoro posted another UA-cam video again? Let me rest my elbows on this weird looking keyboard thingy, an get comfortable................OH NO!!!!! .....The Moral of this story is don't stop what your doing when someone posts a UA-cam video. Cause it might change the whole course of history. Just wait until you have some free time to watch Matthew Santoro's or anyone else's videos. Anyway have a great/wonderful day.🙋
As a huge dog lover, the scientist who stitched dogs together while alive really pissed me off. No dog or any other animal should used in such cruel experiments.
Thank you for making videos Matthew. I suffer from insomnia from time to time, and I find your videos always help me to fall asleep. Thank so much! you have no idea how much you’ve helped me throughout the years ❤️
A lot (if not all) of these people are mentioned in Elephants on Acid. Which is a (mostly) great and very interesting book about weird experiments throughout history.
One of the deeply depressing aspects to this is that many of the most unethical experiments have been crucial to our undertadnding of human biology and psychology. For example the expirement on the baby monkeys alone contributed to a HUGE portion of what we knowing human developmental psychology. There appear to be things we can only find out unethically- which may mean that the era of great scientific advances is over since ethics guidelines are now in place for scientists.
I read about that final one in a science magazine some years ago, and the first person it would be done to is 110% willing to go through with it. I don't remember the details of his condition fully since it was quite the while ago but the guy said that whatever could go wrong wouldn't be worse than what he already has. I think his life is on its limits too. It'll be heartbreaking if it's not successful, but if it works out it'll give him the life he'll otherwise never have. And it'd be a huge step towards helping other people who suffer from permanent paralysis. The main problem with it is the nerves and... basically everything to be honest. You'd need literally perfect, no single fault, severs of even the tiniest nerve to have any sort of chance of a fully successful transplantation where the brain and body can communicate. Then, there's also that risk of the body rejecting the head.. Which is something that’s been a major issue in(those absolutely disgusting) head transplantation experiments on animals. I sincerely hope this procedure becomes the first successful one and not a horror show
I suppose a lot of genius scientists start out as mad scientists... My issue is the lack of morality/ethics of some of these people. When nobody or no animal is hurt I don't mind. And I don't see the problem with the last one, it's complex and risky but could give a new life to tetraplegics. I bet at first people where very hesitant to do heart's transplants weren't they? I wouldn't want to be the first subject though...
Vladimir Demikhov really likes to do some disturbing things to get the first. Imagine the experiment that he will do if he wants to become the first viewer of a video.

Messing with animals is wrong
I was thinking the same thing like how would those scientists like the exact same thing they were doing to those poor animals done to their sorry asses
To a degree, I agree. But without some animal testing, we wouldn't have a lot of important medicine today.
@Epik Hell Sword That's an excellent question. It seems many humans uphold themselves above other animals.
Animal lover yea
Messing without a clear reason, sure. How would you propose we should test medical science?
As someone who is (relatively) sane, I feel really bad for all the people and animals used for the experiments.
