Very helpful video... One thing to point out though is that at step three you are basically done and continuing with the method is extremely inefficient. 3y = -6, so y = -2, and from there you can figure out the other two variables easily.
this is the only day I was waiting to solved any problem by Gaussian elimination and it is absolutely fantastic. You disqualified my thoughts that this way was hard .good that you made my day. thank.
I have watched a few videos on Gaussian Elimination and could never figure it out when using weird numbers! This video made something in my head click and I finally get it!!! Thank you so much!
Your video is of big help! The best I have seen. Easy to follow and understand! Now that I have seen it, I was able to explain my son the topic. Thanks again!
Pivoting is the process of reordering the matrix element in order to make the first pivot element with largest magnitude(only Rows) in order to increase the accuracy. But what you did here. You interchanged R1 with R2. You have to interchange R1 with R3.So, that the first element would be 3.
To check your work, substitute the solution back into the original equations. I found the solution to be (1,-2,3). So, I can check to see if 2(1)-(-2)+2(3)=10 And check if (1)-2(-2)+(3)=8 And check if 3(1)-(-2)+2(3)=11 If all three come back as true, then you can be confident in your solution. Joel
Gauss elimination is a process that everyone thinks they understand based on one extremely simple example but which almost nobody truly understands. The problems I listed above will show you how much you really understand Gauss elimination. I don't think most people can solve them.
You can change the rows because it is a matter of how you write the initial equations. When he changed the rows the first equation became x-2y+z = 8 followed by the second equation 2x-y+2z=10 and the third 3x-y+2z=11.
I forgot one step.. and it cleared me.. thanX But at 4:24 you did wrong.. see moreover, when you obtain matrix at 3:42 (that has one row having single x variable [0 3 0 | -6] ) you don't need to eliminate further.. you can start back substitution instead.
Rawan K.Roumiye There's multiple ways you could do it , it was just easiest to exchange the rows in this case. Remember, you always want to get a leading 1 as the first non-zero number in a row
When it comes to Gaussian Elimination, it’s perfectly fine to switch the rows. There are no rules stopping you from doing so. He switched them around to make it easier to get them in that diagonal 1 line up with the 3 zeros in the bottom left. It just made it easier in the long run.
you can if you feel it's necessary, it's just that given the question at hand, by figuring out the second and third rows, he found the y and z values and so could figure out x that way
John Klitsko but mathematically, it's called 3x3 since the constant are not counted in being a row and column. Jesus christ listen to your teachers sometimes.
You turned Gaussian elimination in to English! I learned more from you than I did from my professor. Thank you!

Thank you so much for this tutorial. I've watched other good tutorials but your explanation is the one that clicked for me. Thanks again!
Thank you, first video to explain this so I can comprehend Gaussian elimination. You're awesome.

THANK YOU KING. Here’s your crown: 👑
Lol what the fuck
Symere Woods when my teacher explained that i said Wtf

Thanks. This will help me at my exams tomorrow :)
How was your exam sist??
@@mdfahim8792 I don't think they replying 6 years later lol. I dont think you're replying either
Thank you! My book really didn't explain the steps very well and my prof is ESL. You saved my ass :P
You are the best math explainer on youtube thank you so much
In my personal opinion it is the best explanation. Thank you!

So, I can check to see if 2(1)-(-2)+2(3)=10
And check if (1)-2(-2)+(3)=8

If all three come back as true, then you can be confident in your solution.

THANK YOU ! Finally, after a million videos your video helped the most
Makes Finite Math more easier.
Thank you. Good teaching Mr
I gotta admit this is the best video over this topic
Just needed a refresher, clear as day now! Thanks :)
Thanks you man you explained it very well , better than my electric engineering math teacher !
Thanks for going through this so clearly. Very much appreciated!

thank you! i've learnt how to do this in only 7 minutes compared to learning it in an hour haha
explained better than my engineering lecturer cheers!
Absolutely fantastic! Thank you!
I thought the pivot element needs to be the highest absolute value, why make 1 your pivot element in the first row? Should've been 3 right?
Thank You, its help me a lot to understand better than my professor!!!!
saved me hours, thanks
*Every video on Gauss elimination lists the most trivial example and shows how to solve it* .
I'd like to see someone tackle some of these:
*Problem 1:*
13x + 12y = -6
-4x + 7y = -73
11x - 13y = 157
*Problem 2:*
4y + 3z = 8
2x - z = 2
3x - 2y = 5
*Problem 3:*
7x - 4y - 2z = -6
16x + 2y + z = 3
*Problem 4:*
5x + 5y - 10z = 0
2w - 3x - 3y + 6z = 2
4w + x + y - 2z = 4
Have fun!

why you change the rows ?
You can change the rows because it is a matter of how you write the initial equations. When he changed the rows the first equation became x-2y+z = 8 followed by the second equation 2x-y+2z=10 and the third 3x-y+2z=11.
He wants to make the leading diagonals be 1. From left to right. Copy 📝
Oh my god....
I Understand....!
you saved my life dude, thanks so much
This was so helpful! Thank you so much! Lots of steps but I think I got it!
Thank you! You made that very simple

PERFECT ! Thank you so muuuch !
Thanks, well explained.
U didn't discuss the rank of augmented matrix and coefficient matrix for consistency here.....
You are right. This was not intended for a Linear Algebra class, but for one of my PreCalculus courses.
perfect bro. good job
Thanks 🙏
Thank you! :) Now I understand

Thanks, you helped me
is there any fix way to solve this damn gauss! equtions?
Thank you sir..
Thank you.
Thanks man finally get it , 2moro is my paper :P
thanks
Thank you
There is a mistake in R2-2*R1 step in column 2.
Why should we exchange the rows ???
You mean the first step? it's so you can get a leading 1 in the first row.
+john Klitsko ! is it necessary to exchange ?

you can if you feel it's necessary, it's just that given the question at hand, by figuring out the second and third rows, he found the y and z values and so could figure out x that way
this is a 4x3
wrong, it's a 3x3
3x4 actually, the numbers after the = sign are counted as a column.
