To someone who doesn't know any better it sounds simple but it isn't (not to me) and his beats are very creative but not over the top obnoxious drummer shit. I'm a guitar player and have had my battles with drummers and even though the best I can do it keep a simple beat on a kit I know coming up with these beats is way more difficult than people think
Yeah Steven had groove, it's not really apparent here though, a lot has happened with the guy so I guess that's excusable. He really can't be mentioned in the same breath as Starr and Bonham, that's truly ridiculous and also Guns disappeared up their own backsides after the Appetite fever levelled out, losing Steven and Izzy definitely made a difference particularly to the fans but just a simple concoction of drink, drugs and ego ensured the magic would never be rekindled.. Use Your Illusion albums proved that point, for the most part, awful

Couldn’t pay me to sit through one song with axle now. Washed up, never continued to train his voice he just thinks people want to see his fat ass. Not me
@@rodneywoodcock8235 so NOT true. In his words he wanted the “loot” to be spread evenly between all 5 original members. And Axl for sure not sure on Duff or Slash but Axl for sure didn’t wanted an even spread of the cash. So Izzy said screw it then
I cut my teeth as a drummer on this album. I can remember getting home from school as a little 10 year old kid and going to the basement and putting Appetite on and just playing it straight through. It was my daily ritual, before homework, food or saying hello to my folks (who were cool enough to allow such shenanigans at such a young age). It was definitely the first album I could sit and play from start to finish and I learned more about time keeping and being a pocket player from that experience than any metronome could've taught me. Besides, what kid wants to sit with a practice pad and a metronome? I dunno, maybe some but I was definitely not that kid.
And the fact that 10 year old you was playing this whole album shows that Steven is the least talented drummer they’ve had. I’m not even a drummer, yet can play every song on this album.
@@davidwalters9339 The fact that something is not that technically difficult to play doesn't make it bad. Also, why don't you upload a video of you playing the drums along to AFD songs - show us how good you are.
I can't stop listening to this performance. Steven Adler was betrayed by his friends and today he still plays amazingly well and looks better than everyone else in the band. Good for him. The humiliated shall be exalted!
Darien Cruz Music Fuck yeah! AFD is a VERY danceable LP, and not at all in a bad way. It moves ya the same way the best Van Halen, Stones, TRex or Zeppelin might, if you let it.
Can't tell you how many times I jammed along with this song back in my bedroom in the early 90's, killer track! Proud to be part of the family with Steven Adler!
Insane groove. The musicality of his playing is excellent over the whole piece. And that flam at 5:15, so delightful. You can't learn that in school, it's just God given talent.
@Hank Menendez That's good to know, but in my opinion they should bring him along and let him play all the Appetite stuff on tour. That's what the fans want and they have plenty of money to make it happen.
This is why he's always been one of my favorite drummers and why Appetite will forever be one of my all-time favorite albums. Love his style and the drums on that album are just phenomenal. I've watched this video like 10 times in a row now lol. Absolutely love it! Love the way these drums sound..
@marcos reyna Excellent comparison. Neither Ringo or Adler are technically great drummers (John Lennon famously said Ringo was not even the best drummer in The Beatles), but they both have great swing that comes from their unrestrained youthful optimism.
Steven, I hope you read this. I was a kid when Appetite dropped. It was one of the first records I heard that made me wanna be a drummer. Great seeing you smile behind the kit. Cheers.
unfortunately for artists you can, there are thousands of pro guitar players that can mimic slash but there is one Slash that created one unique style and sounds like nobody else , and I guess it's true for Adler, there are a lot of drummers that can play his stuff as good as he does.
Although id love to see steve back in GNR if it meant he could be in an environment where u could possibly relapse im happy to just see him do his thing in these types of videos.,Massive respect for him he struggled for years with addiction and came out the other side although a daily battle to stay clean hes a fkn winner in my eyes❤❤❤
Adler still has that fucking awesome groove & voice on the kit. One of the few rock drummers that understood its not how many times you can hit your toms in a bar, its the feel of open space BETWEEN the hits. Soooo few players can keep that kind of time for a 6 minute song with that much open space and resist the urge to bury it in gratuitous 16ths note fills and perrididdle BS Kids sometimes said "he plays so simple, anyone can do that" ... Oh yea ? Show me someone who does
+joethebar1 not sure if you are meaning that as a criticism or not. When GnR came out..and I remember it well..they were different than what was going on at the time. Hair Metal was king and it was all about makeup, big hair, and silky smooth production. These guys magazine cover looked like druggies off of the street. No polish..no girly makeup..just some guys you might find at the local biker bar. That image or anti image was carried through to the way they played music. Strangely enough..Appetite for Destruction is a masterpiece of production. Perfectly mixed but still aggressive and in your face. So I'm not looking for finesse in Steven Adlers drumming.

And of course i never missed the JD or JB bottle he had in every single picture. And ill never forget my first and last time drinking a pint of JB at age 15 because of those pictures. Lol
What a moment when first listening to that appetite album...where each song just kept getting better...thought I'd died went heaven. No other album ever did that to me.
Ditto! I remember getting the album on cassette man every song was incredible. It just kept getting better and better, Mr. Brownstone, My Michelle holy cow this song is so raunchy so so good Rocket Queen super sexy then with that whole tempo change toward the end ahhhh man it was like the other commenter said it was like I died and went to Rock n Roll heaven. There is no better hard rock album than Appetite.... 1987 was a great year for music.
Steven Fuckin' Adler. Personally one of my favorite drummers of all time.
Eunjung's #1 fan No. No, it's steven pop corn Adler

This never fails to give me goosebumps. He brings a gritty groove to the songs that no other drummer ever will. Steven ‘popcorn’ Adler is the best.
He’s playing with your soul The best drummer of GNR Ever.
Rocket Queen was and still is one of my favorite GNR's songs......never seemed to figure out why....till i saw this.
Steven Adler is the secret ingredient! That's why Appetite and GNR'lies will always be there best albums......sorry Matt....
Definitely one of my favorite I don't think there's a Guns N Roses song I don't love. Maybe Chinese Democracy.
Me too...
Actually the secret to Rocket Queen is Steven Adler's girlfriend getting plowed by Axl Rose in the breakdown 😉😂😂😂😂😂🤘🏼
Sam Kalil funny, I was thinking about what he must be thinking listening to that in the headset - or you know, living through it all those years ago!
Matt was a great replacement. But Adler was GNR's best drummer.
Steven hasn’t lost a beat
He’s rocking it as always and those cymbals sound great
You know what people hate on this guy because he wasn't John Bohnam or Keith Moon. But guess what he's the drummer for 5 platinum songs on 1 album so who's going to disrespect that?
He's better than both of them, now, and then.
@@laurawestervelt of course he's better than them now, they're both dead
People are clueless about drummers. I'm meet a ton who hate on Ringo Starr. I'm like "He was the drummer for the fucking BEATLES for God's sake!" and they don't understand.
@@flugplatz21 He wasn't even the best drummer in the band :-p
@@bbq8101 Have you listened to Ringo's work outside the Beatles? He served the songs, and when you've got John, Paul, and George in front of you, KISS, Keep It Simple, Stupid. It's all subjective. Who was the better drummer, by the way? Pete, or Paul? Those are my guesses.
Steven Adler is a very underrated drummer.
True. But he's in the top 30 richest drummers in the world
+Retro Gaming Guitarist
Reminds me a lot of Peter Criss. Neither is the most technically sound, but, both were the best fit for their respective bands.
I love Steven Adler's heavy fisted drumming style. I hope they find a
way to include him into any reunion plans they make. He looks like he's
ready to go.
+Retro Gaming Guitarist No, he really isn't. He did make a huge contribution to the sound of GNR, but all the respect for his skill, he deserves.
+Retro Gaming Guitarist Guns would never have been Guns without him... Backbone of Guns, and you can't live without your backbone.
Adler has soul and honesty that shines in his playing. He plays the drums like they are a piece of him. It is what makes him great, and the best drummer GNR ever had. There is a reason Appetite For Destruction touched so many people in a way the Use Your Illusion never did. Matt Sorum is a great drummer, but he can't hold a candle to Adler. Adler has the Blood, Sweat, Spirit and Piss sound/feeling that you can't practice or learn.
Amen to that 🙌🏼💜
Absolutely totally fucking right. You said it perfectly. Steven is a goddamn legend. Plays with heart and soul, so natural. His love for music and drums shines through in his playing. Such a shame Guns went the way it did, without Steven. Think of all the records that never got made over all those empty years.......
key word--------spirit...
Fucking. A.
You are so right. See my post above. He had the soul and swing and he sang every word and felt every note. You can't replace that
Sorry Mr. Sorum. Nobody plays like Steven. His bounce and his groove is unmatched.
True. Matt was their 2nd best drummer
matt sorum play the best sound of GNR
Agreed
Spot on.
Sorum Is a better drummer but Steven fits better in the band
I bet when he plays these classics and closes his eyes he just sees those stadiums full of people. That must be the most exhilarating experience in the world
or saddest
Glad to know Steven beat his addiction and that he still got it.

@@stevenadler6127 LOL! You’re kidding, right?
If it wasn't for Steven no one would have ever heard Guns N Roses. Him and Izzy both were key integrals of their sound.
I seen Slash live last summer. With GnR. I will agree with you to an extent. Slash is on another level. He truly is the heart and soul of the band in my opinion.
Lol u do realize when it comes to this GNR everyone talks about slash
He still sounds wonderful, I wish him the best with music production and wish him good health. 👍
Take him back, he needs you Guns n’ Roses and you need him.
AGREE!
There's just something satisfying about watching a good drummer.
Here's a dream, all five original members of GnR recording a new album so we can all die at peace.
Warren Gonzalez but axle can not sing at all anymore. I’d like to see the other guys with the lead that slash is touring with now. Can’t remember his name but his vocals are great. Fuck axle. Couldn’t pay me to sit through one song with axle now. Washed up, never continued to train his voice he just thinks people want to see his fat ass. Not me
I saw gnr a couple of yeara ago, and axl still have it, and did a terrific show and great performance

Izzy has done some one off guest appearances in the past, but by all accounts he has zero desire to do a long tour.
No entendi nada de lo que dicen pero estoy de acuerdo en que traigan a Steven y a Izzy de vuelta (Sorry no speak inglish just hablar español)
@@carloselgod33 te entiendo
@@rodneywoodcock8235 so NOT true. In his words he wanted the “loot” to be spread evenly between all 5 original members. And Axl for sure not sure on Duff or Slash but Axl for sure didn’t wanted an even spread of the cash. So Izzy said screw it then
He NEEDS to be playing with GNR. He’s still amazing.
He *IS* GNR
I cut my teeth as a drummer on this album. I can remember getting home from school as a little 10 year old kid and going to the basement and putting Appetite on and just playing it straight through. It was my daily ritual, before homework, food or saying hello to my folks (who were cool enough to allow such shenanigans at such a young age). It was definitely the first album I could sit and play from start to finish and I learned more about time keeping and being a pocket player from that experience than any metronome could've taught me. Besides, what kid wants to sit with a practice pad and a metronome? I dunno, maybe some but I was definitely not that kid.
Me too!
And the fact that 10 year old you was playing this whole album shows that Steven is the least talented drummer they’ve had. I’m not even a drummer, yet can play every song on this album.
@@davidwalters9339 yup
... Sure u can. Your such a hero
@@davidwalters9339 The fact that something is not that technically difficult to play doesn't make it bad. Also, why don't you upload a video of you playing the drums along to AFD songs - show us how good you are.
This guy is NOT technically talented. But his time and feel are outstanding. Steven is not the best drummer in the world but the best for GNR.
I can't stop listening to this performance. Steven Adler was betrayed by his friends and today he still plays amazingly well and looks better than everyone else in the band. Good for him. The humiliated shall be exalted!
Well he definitely looks better than Axl. Axl has an "appetite" for cheeseburgers.
Lol shut up Steven did this to himself messing with all them drums fucking himself up

I just love that man, im so happy for him and love to see him well.
Fuck Yeah😊😊😊
Is he clean now? He looks happy
Glad he finally beat the heroin demon. He still has it on those drums.
It wasn't heroin. It was cocaine.
Heroin and cocaine but heroin is a beast that took him down
@@j.t.cooper2963 read his autobiography he was addicted to both heroin and cocaine

Steven has so much feel in his playing. he just has swing that has been missing form GNR without him. he makes it almost danceable.
Darien Cruz Music
Fuck yeah! AFD is a VERY danceable LP, and not at all in a bad way. It moves ya the same way the best Van Halen, Stones, TRex or Zeppelin might, if you let it.
Darien Cruz Music No,G n R are Axl,Slash 'n' Duff
One of my favorite drummers ever! Teared up a little when I watched this lol. Dude was awesome then.. And he still is now!
We need Steve Adler in the reunion !!
The reunion still didn't happen. It will happen when Izzy AND Steven return and all the ALIENS leave.
Best 6 minutes today, thank you my friend......
Everyone wants Steven Adler to be part of the reunion !!!
I totally agree
Not drummers.
What? Steven is the original and best drummer of GN'R
@@vanityrage1984 He's one of the worst drummers of the era. He's certainly the worst from G'N'R.

he still got it
Steve you are the best, GNR for ever!
The BEST GNR Drummer! Dude has a swing and groove that made appetite and GNR! Everything is perfect, in place, not overdone, just perfect!
I was thinking the same thing. Perfect!
Dude your still kicking ass on the appetite tracks.... Fuckin Steven should be out there with the boys on this huge GNR tour.............
How can anyone hit the dislike on this.Adler you're still the man.Keep rocking man
This brought a tear to my eyes!
Fuck I know..lol
Seeing him so happy alive and playing so well is something to definitely smile about!
HE IS the DRUMMER of GNR. The Only one: Mr. Steven Adler.
The best GnR song by a mile,I love every second of it.😍
Can't tell you how many times I jammed along with this song back in my bedroom in the early 90's, killer track! Proud to be part of the family with Steven Adler!
He makes drumming look so cool and easy.
Insane groove. The musicality of his playing is excellent over the whole piece. And that flam at 5:15, so delightful. You can't learn that in school, it's just God given talent.
Love Steven. One of the best Hard Rock drummers ever.
Wha????
dbltrpI..... like him but I concur.....he is not even close.
Fred Garvin best drummer gnr ever had
+Steve Kish he is not a speed drummer he is a musician a true drummer Adler is one of the very best to ever do it
Adler swings. Bit like Phil Rudd. And the band is much better for it.
They should had included him in the reunion tour..its not like he cant play anymore..lol
Oh yes he can, but he can also take drugs like a fucking champ. That is the problem.
Even Matt Sorum would be good. At least we wouldn’t have to suffer through Frank’s exaggerated playing.
Adler was forsaken by Slash
@Hank Menendez That's good to know, but in my opinion they should bring him along and let him play all the Appetite stuff on tour. That's what the fans want and they have plenty of money to make it happen.
@John Cena nope axle did
This is why he's always been one of my favorite drummers and why Appetite will forever be one of my all-time favorite albums. Love his style and the drums on that album are just phenomenal. I've watched this video like 10 times in a row now lol. Absolutely love it! Love the way these drums sound..
Come on Steven do a whole video of you playin the entire Appetite for Destruction album!!
Always LOVED his feel. He made me want air drum parts.
Even as a guitar player it's clear to me that Adler groove is great . He plays a little behind the beat. Gives the music swing .
J2 Martnz yes! i fucking love it to, plays very "brittish"
Bucky Preseau Yep, Ringo comes to mind.

@@boataxe4605 Ringo?.....

god damn, this is literally one of my favorite things on UA-cam
The Ringo Starr of the 1980s. I mean that in the best way possible. Legendary
@marcos reyna Excellent comparison. Neither Ringo or Adler are technically great drummers (John Lennon famously said Ringo was not even the best drummer in The Beatles), but they both have great swing that comes from their unrestrained youthful optimism.
True, you won't get the ballbag ten minute drum solos like others. Keeping it real
Ringo is truly great. People don't get it.
The only one Guns's drummer, i want him in reunion tour, i hope in surprise
Only one? Sorum played on the Illusion albums…
+BassGuitarGuy128 sorums lame.
Sorum is awesome. He's just, well... Not Adler. Which we all know.
nothing wrong with matt being there either
I agree. Matt' good, but such a heavy metal drummer. Adler all the way.
Steven is the quintessential Guns N Roses drummer. He was a big part of that raw and edgy sound on the first two albums.
Steven, I hope you read this. I was a kid when Appetite dropped. It was one of the first records I heard that made me wanna be a drummer.
Great seeing you smile behind the kit.
Cheers.
Love that ride. The soundtrack of my childhood.
Steven Adler you have always been my favorite drummer 🥁 you Rock!!!!
Genius drumming in all it's simplicity!
+zakkara1 Same thing I was thinking
The living heartbeat of Guns N' Roses.
God bless you, Steven. Your groove and feel are second to none, but your heart is where the real gift is.
Adler is to GNR what Rudd is to ACDC, you can't copy drumming, just as you can't copy any other instrument
unfortunately for artists you can, there are thousands of pro guitar players that can mimic slash but there is one Slash that created one unique style and sounds like nobody else , and I guess it's true for Adler, there are a lot of drummers that can play his stuff as good as he does.

Yeah I hear you old school G&R all the way. I can barely listen to Chinese Democracy. Couple songs. But they're not on my playlist favorites.
Know very well when he lived in Vegas. I used go talk to him for hours at the 7 11 off of maryland park way really good guy glad hes doing well steven
His drum sound in Appetite For Destruction was what made the album sound so great. Especially that Explosive snare
THE classic GnR lineup is with Steven and Izzy. Appetite for Destruction still rocks 30+ years later.
My fave album of all time, still listen to it regularly decades later
Adler still has that fucking awesome groove & voice on the kit. One of the few rock drummers that understood its not how many times you can hit your toms in a bar, its the feel of open space BETWEEN the hits.
Soooo few players can keep that kind of time for a 6 minute song with that much open space and resist the urge to bury it in gratuitous 16ths note fills and perrididdle BS
Kids sometimes said "he plays so simple, anyone can do that" ... Oh yea ? Show me someone who does
Well said
but he doesn't milk tone out of his playing. its noisy. no finesse.
That`s why he was in GNR and not some fuckin jazzband for fucks sake!
jaik willis Very well said sir. Steven is all about keeping in with the integrity of the song. He's a true musician.
Steve still looks like he’s in the 80s . Everyone else aged nasty lol
Not Slash. Looks pretty much the same and if it's possible, is an even better player.
Only Axel
Stevens had a pretty rough go at life, if you’ve read his book, you’ll be amazing the guy is still alive. He’s extremely lucky to have been able to shoot this video, and be alive to play even.
I think Izzy has aged rather nicely
Agree... Long blonde same cutting hair + jeans... just same... love...
in the live ritz version of this song you can see how much he loved playing this song it lookedf as if it was the best time of his life and my fasvorite gnr video
What a pleasure to listen to!
When Steven was kicked out of G'nR there was a void that Matt Sorum, for all his technical ability, couldn't hope to fill.
It was the first event that started the unravelling of a unique and monumental band.
Steve your the best. You still got it man thats awsome. Im 46 use to listen to gnr on fuckin cassette in highschool back in 87. Keep rocking brother take care of your health. LONG LIVE GNR God bless
Bro this guy hasn't aged a bit, still looks as he did in the 80s!!! Hope that he joins GNR again, I'd be so happy
