- "They've bought the bullets and there's no one left to shoot". The sound of young Scotland. Aztec Camera looking great on the BBC lunchtime programme Pebble Mill at One. It must have been a strange 'gig' for them this. They look amused at being there. I recorded this on my vhs video recorder when it was broadcast. Even though they are miming, this clip has the original sound that was broadcast with it and is not overdubbed from a CD, unlike a lot of tv clips on youtube, like TOTP2.
Saw Roddy Frame and band perform Oblivious and the whole High Land Hard Rain album yesterday (!!!) at Royal Theatre Drury Lane in London. This music is immortal.
FabSteff66 Oh you lucky so and so 😁😁😁 one of my all time top LP's
My favourite Aztec Camera song - but they did so many great songs it might not be next week! All round brilliant!!!
I love Craig Gannon's cheeky grin at the bass player on the intro
I think he's 16 yrs old here...
Wait, how many bands has Craig Gannon been in?? I just checked his Wikipedia. Answer: A LOT.
Back when radio played the songs that matter, Forth FM played the tunes of upcoming Scottish bands, and this one will always be embedded in memory...
I was so happy back then and life was full of promise…This just awakened all of that emotion..some good and some raw. so much has happened in my life since the 80s
Same here.
quite happy to say the bassist campbell is my lecturer at college, what a legend :)
I did physics with him at Duncanrig Secondary school in East Kilbride. He was always a good guy.
1985, in the suburbs outside Osaka, Japan at 3 am I was drinking a beer, smoking a cig and listening to Aztec Camera, 2018 3 am somewhere in the USA, I’m sitting around drinking a beer, smoking a cig and listening to Aztec Camera, it’s still sounds great.
2022, Singapore after a few beers. Same feeling. EKOK.
Love it. Now 56 and walk out to Winter is still high on my playlist. Girls also loved Aztec Camera.
@@craigrichardson9783 Man I wish I was in Singapore
Love Roddy and those first two albums.. Such a talent... Thanks for posting, never seen this..
wore out the cassette on this song
so 1983
elvis costello tirned me on to them
I forgot how good this song is. Thanks for posting!
Fantastic !!!!!!
Just found out the chap I work with (Colin) happens to be the drummer .... small world or what!
+David Johnson how strange , tell him i said hello and great drums classic track
My Lecturer in college is the Bass player, it’s so strange.
Small world...one of Roddy's best singles!
Lol, awesome.
@@mariomanno1 what an awesome bass riff for this song!
Miss my childhood and CG rocks ty for post too!
i was 13 when this was out i luved it and still do 30 yrs on :)
what a handsome boy Roddy is.
Do you want his number? He’s 57 now
+ hair + talent = total package 😅
Roddy frame, an underrated Genious!
Say no more...
one of my top 100 at the 80s
Saw them in Brixton in 84. Happy, happy days.
+1 big on the casual scene
I remember him wearing a full Tacchini track suit on TV (TOTP or the Tube?)
Who IS that young guy?! GGG... These vids are little treasures..
So GOOD :)
I saw then at Leeds University in 1987ish - love them
1970s and 1980s, when kids had real music lessons in school with real and quality instruments so you could be a pop star if you wanted.
Adil Mussa is that how Roddy got his lessons? Apparently he got his first guitar at age 4 and got obsessed with instrument. Or is he self taught
@@nmtg Most likely. My aunt learnt to play the classical flute in primary and secondary school and she was grade 8 by the time she was 15 years old. She went to a comprehensive school in Hull in the 1970s.
@@am4793 Is Hull in England or Scotland? I have no idea about the instruments for the different school districts. My son gets flute / band lessons now in middle school. It just sounds like Roddy has some extra skills on the guitar, especially because you can hear Spanish and other styles in it. Thx
@@am4793Ok. I just read an article and it looks like he was self-taught.

@@nmtg Hull is in south Yorkshire in England.
Roddy Frame, genio infravalorado
pure class great 80s pop
Ahhh yes the 1980s and a young Mr Frame
a very young roddy frame and aztec camera
Yep, he said it all.
craig
I videotaped this at the time too!
Hi 'Walk Out To Winter', which I also uploaded, but Warners removed the sound. I may reload it one day.
Such a kind duran duran
I thought this was going to be live.
Only it wasn't as front and centre back then either. You could go for weeks before someone like this lot got on tele or day time radio even then. Thanks God for John Peel..
this is a great song. If there wasn't all the 8tys rubbish behind it. Check out Rod do it on Song writers Circle with neil (bloke from Crowererd hooouse) and the man with glasses (i don't like cricket(10cc) bloke. Fantastic. Corr, they can get some birds.
That audience is buzzing.
Jay Bee Yes mate, I remember Pebble Mill at One well - it quite ruined any days off school I had as a kid! Can't ever remember anything as good as Aztec Camera on there. The buzzing I'm referring to is the buzz of the audience's hearing aids. ;)
Ok, I have ;) but it wasn't easy :) what I meant to say was.....this is one of my favourite ever songs, guaranteed to put a smile on my face @inshreds66
Eight Ppi Whenever I listen Oblivious - Aztec Camera. The melody is played within the brain 10 best songs unconsciously. Brain That's the same as the drag would have I remembered as a material pleasure. I'm not doing illegal drugs of course.
***** さすがですね この曲の、美味しい所を ご理解されてる。
@redlipstickgurl i know you've told me that already. Am I in a time warp?
Choon !
I did wonder. lol
x
@redlipstickgurl I keep all mine.
@redlipstickgurl you need a cold shower. You're not so bad yourself, if that was really you. Cheers.
why it's, it's...to the right..craig gannon!!!
Calm down. :)
AC is brilliant but this lipsync show is crap. i would much rather hear the live here! but it is cool to see them.
"I can't do any photos 'cos it's been nicked by a German"
God bless Roddy. This is classic pop. Sheeran, my arse!
Yes!
Sheeran is so shit and overrated.
there's so much good pop out there and bloody sheeran has to be one of the biggest ones, damn shame
Such an underrated band. So unbelievably good. They should of been massive.
for real though. this performance sounds identical to the album version. very few bands can pull this off.
Roddy Frame a true talent! Loved them as a little kid! Thanks to my older sis for introducing me to wonders of 80's Brit music!
Thanks for posting!!!
A much loved background song to my most fave year.........in 1983 my world exploded. Thanks Aztec Camera for this awesome piece of brilliance.
I heard it said when Roddy Frame picks his guitar up everyone else puts their's down, I can see and hear why he's a great player
This is so unbelievably cute and innocent. It makes me cry.
I saw them in 1983 at Night Moves Sauchiehall street Glasgow. Life was great 😁😎
Hope it still is!
are the songs this good in the kingdom of heaven or better?
This is an especially amazing Summer song. Such a beautiful melody.
Craig Gannon (The Smiths) on guitar there
He looks so much happier here than in the Smiths, If i recall correctly Johhny grew to dislike him throughout the time he was in the band
ross yeah he never travelled with the band to gigs
Yes, the was the fifth Smith for a very short period of time.
ross I think because anything marr could do gannon could do too they should of got roddy to join the smiths Johnny would get a fright
@@RossWasTaken @ross Gannon even said himself that he considered Aztec Camera to be the more superior and innovative band. I don't agree on a composition level, but theres a bit more fun in Aztec Camera, it all feels more chill. The Smiths are my favourite band by a mile, but I can see why people would tire of them easily. I think that's what happened when it comes to Gannon and Marr. Johnny was already sick of it, and Gannon was wanting to play with a solid unit.
Also, I will add. If you listen to the first Morrissey gig live at Wolverhampton, Gannon, Rourke and Joyce most of Gannons playing sound a lot more present and full compared to Smiths gigs (sister I'm a Poet was a great one at that gig). I personally enjoy Gannons live stuff more (although he totally f's up Stop Me at the beginning of the gig). Sorry for the rant by the way lol.
It's interesting how the camera focuses on the drums at first while Roddy is wailing away on his guitar solo. 🤣🤣
It makes me sad that in 1983, a 19 year old like this was producing original, clever, vibrant, melodic music and getting on TV. Now all we have is X Factor and Justin Bieber.
Love this song! Just a shame there's no Bob Langley introducing it... :)
Always good mood when listening Oblivious - Aztec Camera. The melody is played within the brain 10 best songs unconsciously. Brain That's the same as the drag would have I remembered as a material pleasure. I'm not doing illegal drugs of course.
I still laugh at this hair. Roddy has had some funny ones. Haha.
redlipstickgurl - Totally agree! Roddy - fantastic talent and a great looker! I was 20 in '83 so would've been right as a groupie...wish I had!! What I missed out on!! Boo Hoo!
Naff off U2. These guys should of been superstars.
One of the great songs I heard on WLIR in New York.
When this tune sounded in the radio around 1984 in my country I thought "oh, finally a good Culture Club song!" then I've heard of Aztec Camera guys... amazing, they were just kiddos! Timeless classic!!!
Roddy Frame such a cutie😍
I was one when this aired but still one of my favourite songs. So much fringe in this video!
still teenagers... we were all..
Dude i agree a 100% i cant even stomach half this garbage they call music today god bless em for trying but all the originality my friend we left in the 80s and 90s these poser's don't have a freaken clue.
thanks for sharing ,,,Roddy an immense talent IMHO
I was sharing a flat in Maida Vale with AC's tour manager around the time this was filmed, and I remember when a very shy 16 year old Craig came down with his Mum to audition. It was his first trip to London.
Saw them at a club called Toad's Place back in the mid 80s 😊
This guy intrigued me at the time. I was 23. I think he was the same age as me, but he only looked about 12. LOL.
Roddy Frame is a prolific singer and song writer.
So true. A lot of kids, not all, possibly believe that most popstars today have talent and ideas of their own, when in fact they just have pretty faces and an average voice and that their only way to succeed is to be on the xfactor finals.
SUper tune and Roddy Frame is such a fine player!!!
Another superb Scottish band alongside the likes of Big Country and Del Amitri.
THEYRE SO CUTE!
How did not this sweet, quality Beatles-que band become mainstream?
It did! It was all over radio and TV in Britain and Europe.
is that craig gannon???
Yes it is.
aww sooo young and cute , before the smiths =)
80年代、ネオアコの旗頭だけじゃ済まされぬ文句なし!アズテック・カメラ、才能の塊スコッチマン、ロディー・フレイム、ブレイク"Oblivious"
scatland produced at least a few great bands-these guys are a good example!
I can't forget this music, makes me travel when the times I was in my thirties,I would wish the feeling will never die. Will never die some way,no matter if now i listen heavy metal, rock, hip Hop,coz Aztec Camera and Roddy Frame are always in some place inside us.
Oh this is amazing, just love this so much x
Craig Gannon looks about 15
AHSHSHHSGDGSH I LOVE THIS SONG SM
To describe the upcoming American presidential elections...Oblivious!!!
Is that a young Craig Gannon there in the middle?
Dave Ruffy on drums.
THE 5TH SMITH
Holy crap, was Roddy about 16 here? I'll ask him next time i see him!!!! Defo mimed but awesome.
Great sound ! I've just heard something new that gave me the chills : The song "Have oppressed our plains" by Nikö Laetailleurs". You can find it by writing *"Have oppressed our plains - Nikö Laetailleurs"* in the youtube search bar. Hoping my own feelings can become yours...
It's the only song I still have on single, 12 inch and album great band😁
Wow these guys were 19 or 20 year old - what talent
Craig Gannon was 16 here 🙂
Thanks for posting! The remasters are coming out on Edsel (High Land should be by tomorrow my time, Love later and Knife in October). I must say, a few people had hair like that in 1983, but few the nerve to wear jackets like that! Good on 'em. I reckon British music would be a lot less interesting without the Scottish stuff, Aztec, Orange Juice, such great pop!
Yep. Total talent.
roddy ily
Great ..guys check out Mick roach a Liverpool vocalist songsmith .his track meantime heard it on radio in Italy masterpiece
