actually an incredibly interesting take on how two types of character design and acting use the exact same basic principles but in wildly different ways thank you polygon, this image makes sense to me, and i like it
everyone is into worshiping BDG these days, and don't get me wrong, I'm a bigger BDG fan than just about anyone, but we really gotta be talking more about how dope Pat is.
In general, the quality of creators at Polygon is astounding. They're all incredibly talented as a whole and as individuals. They all have unique personalities, strengths, and comedic styles which more often than not compliment each other in wonderful ways.
I agree wholeheartedly and then some. Pat Gill is UNDERAPPRECIATED. How does he keep the straight deadpan face and calm voice the whole time while delivering some of the most wildly funny takes I've ever heard? How does he switch between regular calm video Pat and gremlin Bloodbuds Pat without even breaking a sweat? Does he write these brilliant lines himself? Does he know how good his comedic timing is???
I feel like I should have lost some SAN points after viewing this, or taken up needlepoint using human hairs as thread. This image makes sense to me, Polygon, and I do not like it.
YES you conveyed this in a way that is easy to understand and super informative! This also applies to why a lot of character animation looks better when it's drawn frame by frame on 1's or 2's- where it can have more dynamic movement and body language - versus animating on threes or using flash puppetry a la family guy etc. Puppetry is animating on 1's in REAL TIME, which is absolutely incredible.
The Ghost of Christmas Past scared the shit out of me as a child, and that fear has been renewed now that I know she was also covered in oil the whole time
This adds up. The creations of Jim Henson's creature workshop are basically taking the puppeteering techniques of the muppets and applying them to more dark themes, and I've definitely seen people compare From Software's soulsborne designs to The Dark Crystal and Labyrinth.
Okay but can we admire how fresh Patrick is looking in this video But almost as importantly: Thank you Polygon, this video makes sense to me, and I like it.
Fun fact, there actually is a decent sized group of people who WOULD want to see a shaved version of Animal. On Australian tv for many years there was a puppet called "Aggro" who appeared in morning kids' tv. He was literally a puppet of Animal they got at a toy shop, who the studio had shaved. The main conceit of the character was that he would insult, belittle, and sexually harrass the young woman presenting the show.
@@governor_explosion a villain who should be in jail (really - it's a stock image of a child that Brian used in his Pokérap video ua-cam.com/video/2cT6ULpScZA/v-deo.html)
I love the very subtle implication that Pat Gill himself is going to ambush the next annual Jim Henson memorial wilderness retreat and muppet orgy and personally see to their tragic but inevitable downfall. poetic.
Honestly, I have been saying for years that if there's a Bloodborne/Dark Souls movie, they totally need to make 'em throwbacks to stuff like The Dark Crystal and Labyrinth and get Jim Henson's Creature Shop to make the creatures for it, and I'm glad somebody more popular than me agrees...
The music choices in Polygon videos are always so fucking good, even the classical music is generally pretty different from the standard like... same five Vivaldi/Mozart/Bach crap songs that so many youtubers love to use so much.

now this is polygon baybee!!! yall are at your best when yall do these hyperspecific pieces that i never new i needed, pat with his character design philosophies, jenna with her physical design philosophies (jrpg fashion/gbc accessories vids), bdg with rdr2 hat ranking and unraveled. i love these all so much
The Muppets are some of my favorite TV characters and bloodborne has some of my favorite video game designs, I never knew they would combine so well. But thank you polygon, this combination makes sense to me, and I like it.
I think this is really cool for a lot of reasons but the biggest one is how well it illustrates the different voices that the cast and employees of Polygon use in their writing and acting. While there is a similar underlying tone and feel to all of them, the way Pat in this video, Jenna in the gameboy video, and Brian in the Crystal Chronicles video all preform it and revise it in different ways is pretty cool to see. Jenna's more composed video essay style had certain jokes, but they were preformed as segues and non-sequitur and the overall tone was more smooth and intellectual than others. Brians is closer to Pats but still retains it's own sense of style, of preparation, which I think makes sense given some of his other work. Pats feels off the cuff and fun, like you're hanging with the bros except the bros are all professional comedians who have to work day jobs to pay the bills and you're hoping they find success. One of them has a youtube channel but the rest are all too tech illiterate to be on it or have their own and you're not sure their style lends itself to the algorithm. billy jerry and tom all keep making some really not cool jokes about women and you feel like tom might be a neo-nazi but nobody wants to bring it up because you all saw what he was descending into and said nothing simply for your own comfort. What was I saying? oh yeah, pats, despite having probably the most planned bits manages to truly capture the essence of a conversation of a chill time with your friends. The way he says the lines feels so unplanned that the planned bits feel more like improved jokes at a hang sesh with the bros. that or he improved some of these. The point is it feels the most unplanned despite having a lot of thought put into it which I think is really cool. Thank you Polygon. This video makes sense to me. I like it.
This is hilarious and compelling, like an "in this essay I will" post but where OP actually wrote the essay. I both understand and like it

In this house we worship the whole polygo-pantheon. The panthegoneon, if you prefer.
That thumbnail is the textbook definition of cursed, in fact this entire video is radiating a very cursed aura

It's beautiful.
An underrated Pat Gill and BDG Thing: cracking up in the background of each other’s videos
Please have Pat make more videos about character design, he's so goddamn good at it.

So glad that BDG can carry the torch of laughing from offscreen when Pat's in front of the camera
“And eventually you’re seeing enemies that barely remember what it is to be human but they still remember fear and anger
Just like Grover”
Well isn't it The Dark Crystal already Bloodborne dark fantasy grotesque delight with puppets?
Marlutte Yestrelt Labyrinth too, to a lesser extent, although they’re more ugly-cute (Hoggle, Ludo) or David Bowie (David Bowie).
"He was a scholar... but now he's slime" (BIG MOOD) made me wheeze
Yep, Kermit flying through the air killed me, albeit laughing, the “YOU DIED” screen was rather fitting

Big Parm Energy
So excited to see Pat content!
you can SEE brian’s influence on the editing in this video and it’s wonderful
Kevin Punt doesn't deserve a puppet show.
He deserves jail.
