Dr Dheeraj
I love that you describe him as your “favorite comedian ophthalmologist” as if there’s more than one comedian ophthalmologist.
That's true, there cannot be another comedian ophthalmologist
Haha, hours of boredom, moments of terror! That is great.
Thank you Emily Anderson.
Since no one has asked yet, did you take time to record this behind the surgical drape in the middle of a surgery?
Ha haa, I have recorded this in the operating room but after the surgery is over. Thanks for the comment.
Lmao
Thank you
Lmfao 💀
I remember going to watch surgery and after 30 minutes the anaesthesiologist pulled out a book!
It's common to read books when the case is stable. But our ears are always on the beeps(sounds) of the monitors we use to monitor patients
As long as the anesthesiologist is in the surgery room, I don't care if she or he is reading a book or playing candy crush. 🙂
Well said and thx for the confidence you have on us
I saw an anesthesiologist for a case (a D&C) reading a book, too. Looked over his shoulder to see the title, "Fundamentals of Anesthesia". I kid you not!!
In every field there are different types of people. Some are good some are not very good.
Spondyloarthritis patient here. I always asked to talk to the anesthesiologist before any procedure. They're always highly qualified and always understand my condition. I think it's a great speciality.
Thank you
Thank you sir. We enjoy medical comedy and enjoyed your reaction too. Thank you for your work Dr Masapu.
Thank you oderadee, your comments are encouraging me to make more good videos.
Great video sir! I would suggest toning down the background music
Thank you very much
I like to imagine Dr. Masapu is recording this during one of those hours of boredom lol
Ha haa, we will be bored but we will be very vigilant. Our ears will always be on the monitor beeps. All these videos are done after the ots are shut down.
And when new monitors are bought, we have to make sure the beeps and colors of waveforms are the same as the old monitors.
Sounds are the same , colours might have a slight variation
The timeframe would certainly fit. Now the only question is, what did he do for the other 52 minutes! LOL!
You know how I know there is no sugery happening right then? The room is absolutely quiet. There are no tones geneated by the vital signs monitor. There are no voices generated by OR staff. There may be a phone ringing, either the OR phone, or the surgeon's cell (which should have been stowed outside of the OR).
What was terrifying to me was waking completely up from surgery twice in my life. Sat straight up thinking surgery was over. I never want to deal with another surgery in my life as a result.
I can understand what your are talking about, now we have depth of anesthesia monitors to prevent this.
Omgooosh
I honestly like that anaesthesiologist are at better working condition and take better care of themselves throughout their work day. I wish surgeons could take breaks too, if only they didn't have to scrub in and out just to take a small break.
I personally dont think i will be able to work like that ever. I appreciate your dedication to your work. thank you
The Anesthesiologist is the one making sure you don't die during surgery.
Unless the surgery is already a risky life threatening one, the biggest threat is that you could stop breathing. There is a reason anesthesia is a specialty and a reason why Michael Jackson died when a cardiologist tried to do the job of an anesthesiologist. I have routine minor surgery often and I love my anesthesiologist Dr. Radu and I literally am trusting him not to let me die while they put me under for a 15 minute procedure I have a few times a year. I have had major surgeries as well and once during a particularly bad year I was in the hospital about to go into surgery and I started getting upset and crying and I was like, I am tired of having surgery, I am tired of feeling like shit, I am leaving and I will just go home and die, and my anesthesiologist Dr. Steven P. Johnson came over and his words were, "This won't do" and he gave me a quick shot of something in my IV (probably vercet) and I immediately was able to calm down, realize I was being ridiculous and go into surgery without freaking out. You need someone to intubate, call anesthesia to help, they are the best. The only thing I don't like is when they try to get away with "light sedation" and I end up with staples instead of glue (staples are faster and I was moving too much for my surgeon to do the internal sutures needed to keep the wound closed with glue on the skin).
Thank you for your good regard towards the branch, I made this channel to develop awareness among public and other doctors about the importance of anesthesiology.
If everyone knows what you are feeling, my target is achieved.
Thank you again for the comments
These comments push me towards making more videos.
I once worked with an "Indian" anesthesiologist who decided to do some charity work in what we would call a "third world country". Preparing for a day of surgery he had an O2 tank, mask and bag but was looking for the rest of the equipment. He asked where the other gases and equipment were. He was handed a gauze mask and a can of ether! He said that he had never administered open drop ether. They asked how that could be since he was from India. He said, "I'm from Philadelphia!"
R you anesthesiologist?
@@DheerajMasapu There's no reason to insult me! Just kidding, no, I am not.
I'd love to see your reaction to the interview to become an anesthesiologist video by the same creator.
Sure will do, thank you for loving the video. Plz watch other videos.
How hard is it to become an anesthesiologist?
Currently in my medical training last year
I like the OR dynamic pace and the icu case diversity (also i find managing septic patient is challenging)
Thanks for the Comment, I dont know which country you belong to, since it will vary in different countries. I did my training in INDIA where it takes 3 years to be called as an Anaesthesiologist. After reading your message, I have realized that you would like more action in your workplace. Anesthesia is an Appropriate branch for you since it involves moments of tension, and you need to keep cool during those situations which only few can do. If you feel your one among them, please take up the branch. One more thing you need to know is that there are significant periods in anesthesia where nothing happens and things go smoothly, so you might get bored if at all you think that action is there round the clock. Good luck to you.
@@DheerajMasaputhank you doc for the warm and informative answer. im from Indonesia, and ive done the surgery and anesthesia rotation.
As for the thing when everything goes smoothly i know it really well because from what i observed when i assess my patient with ASA score, also i think the highest tension come from when I monitor patient's vital sign before the anesthesiologist administer fentanyl and propofol and try to do a quick intubation after that.
Is there any tips or advice to convince me about my passion in anesthesiology to see if its the right speciality for me to take? And yes its absolutely true when I need to keep my head clear and think reasonable when something dire happens
Pardon for my english, and once again thank you for answering my question doc.
@@Admin-mo1zq Yes, Blood pressure fluctuations happen during the Induction of anesthesia with Propofol, They can be dealt with drugs like phenylephrine and Ephidrine etc. I suggest you to pursue anesthesiology as a career since its more challenging at times and a good work-life balance exists. You will be learning the skills required once you start the training and simulations. Good luck for your future.
In Canada it's a 5 years residency after your Medical degree

Good reaction. Good editing as always !
Thank you very much, very few people appreciated my editing skills. Thank you for that
Informative 👍👍
Thank you
you called him a comedian. he is a real doctor, too.
Sorry for that, I respect him a lot. Even I want to be like him.
All kinds of doctors should be the ones winning trophies 🏆 medals and be paid well for their sacrifice.. instead of worshiping mindless actors or football players !! Society is so blind on what it takes to save a life 💐💐💐
Well said Adeline, unfortunately people have a different perception towards doctors. I am hoping that it will change in the coming future. Thank you again
Do they make you take the thick, fluffy cardigan you're wearing under your scrubs off before allowing you into the operating theater? I know you're not actually operating on the patient but they do shave patients to ensure fibers don't get into the incision area and a sweater like the one you're rocking is so thick and fluffy that I bet it leaves fibers behind everywhere you go. If they do let you keep wearing it during surgery I bet you stay toasty warm no matter how cool the surgical room gets!
Hi Robert, it's not the fluffy cardigan . I have hypertrophic scars near that area which you have mistaken for a sweater. They won't allow any kind of clothes other than the ones given by the hospital.
@@DheerajMasapu just a "you have a hairy chest" joke... Now I feel bad...
He hee.
Since this is literally the first time I am seeing an anesthesiologists on UA-cam, I gotta ask....what the heck do I tell my anesthesiologist when I'm prone to waking up flailing like I'm possessed? Everytime I go into surgery they always just say, "it wont happen, I'll wake you up slowly." And I end up whacking a nurse.
Hi , you were having something called delirium which will happen to few people after general anesthesia.
It's nothing to worry about
@Ti C ROFL! Simply apologize to the nurse, for heaven's sake 🤣🤣🤣 !
"hours of boredom moments of terror' is broadcasting as well, If nothing goes wrong we did our job. In a lot of jobs like that where it's perceived the person is lazy the reality is that the person has a high-stress in-moment job. You just don't notice the moments because we're used to the high-stress areas and are used to critical response and minimizing ;) You're welcome.
You superbly understood the scenario, r you also a doctor?
@@DheerajMasapu I worked in the medical field for a while; ironically a vet office as a receptionist, and then brought back to learn the hands-on tech portion. I performed supervised surgery from there (the state I practiced in allows for mentorship vet-tech apprentices), which doesn't sound all that impressive; but at a vet you are the anesthetist, surgeon, and every other job. It can be quite harrowing, especially when the patient wakes up and can't tell you if you've done something off.
I currently work as a local television broadcasting technician, which is ironically extremely similar in stress levels for a job that has nothing to do with life, living, or the pursuit of health. It features many of the same "Hurry up & wait" structures even. Perhaps I should start referring to our news department as the surgeon.
Every job is stressful now a days.
Your vet job looks more interesting than the present broad casting one. Any way long way to go , keep trying some thing different.
Vets needs to hire anesthesia guys I feel than taking the stress of doing everything.
Brilliant!👌👏
Thank you very much sir
Is your job exciting? I just wondering by the words boredom. Is your job boring or maybe just relaxed and slow-paced most of the time? I wish you all the best sir! Why did you choose anesthesia and why you recommend it as a career?
Thanks for the comment, Its not actually boredom, its more like slow paced most of the time. One thing is that we will be monitoring the patient through out the surgery and will be ready for any kind of challenges. I recommended anesthesia since its a branch which can cater multiple areas in a hospital like OTs , ICU, Emergency care and COVID Zones. The branches which have more areas to cater will have more growth prospects in the future and better job security. I personally feel that anesthesia should be done by Doctors who can deal emergency situations in a cool way with out panicking. I do Neuroanesthesia that's more like only brain surgeries, I am trained in also monitoring the brain function during the surgery which makes me different to other anesthesiologists. hope I answered your query and please let me know if you would like to know anything else.
@@DheerajMasapu Thank you so much for your answer. On average how often do you need to do something during case? (Administrating drugs etc). I really appreciate your work. What about job satisfaction?
@@kejdzu It depends on the type of the case, I only deal brain cases where the involvement is more and we need to intervene with more medications. The job satisfaction is good and it depends on the type of person you are. I am fully satisfied being an anesthesiologist. You can check out my video on Job satisfaction in my channel which I made 1 yr ago.
@@DheerajMasapu Hace you done one of those cases where they keep the patient awake so they can check their fine motor skills? For example one patient played the guitar during his surgery.
@@ThatGirlJD so many cases i do, you can watch a video I did on awake brain surgery in my channel.
Anesthesia was taking a break in order to make this reaction video

Thanks for the comment
I do take many breaks but this video is shot after the case has been reversed from Anaesthesia.
Thanks
So less
Very true... 👌
Thank you
One bone to pick, Dr Dheeraj: you refer to the the pt undergoing general anesthesia as being "asleep". These two states of consciousness are not the same; I instead refer to the pt as being "unconscious." General anesthesia is nt natural sleep.
That's true, i have used word sleep so that a common man can understand
@@DheerajMasapu I do get that-- it's just so frustrating!
Where r you practicing now?
This dude may be in the USA but his accent is still in the slums of Mumbai.
I am not in usa, I M from India.
I was today years old when I found out that patients will wake up on the table
Yes it's possible if anesthesia depth is less
That disclaimer is literally there for 2 seconds
Next time will increase to 6-7 seconds
But the short comment videos aren't meant to be "real" at all ... I'm confused.
They are taken from the real life incidents and exaggerated for fun
Hello i am a MBBS doctor from India. This time according to NEET PG rank i may get anaesthesia in top colleges. I am kind of confused. I wanted to pursue a career on Medicine but it's not possible. Should I take Anaesthesia?? Nd can u please specify those moments of terrors you were talking about. I have done Housestaff in General Surgery and i have found i got quite nervous if anything unpredictable happens during OT. So can I handle those moments of terror. My friends are telling that you will learn all those necessary skills during your Residency. But i am doubtful.
Can you please make a video who should take anesthesia as a branch. It will be very much helpful then. Thank u in advance.
Sure, I will do it.
I dig the way that its explained. Also best way to say metabolism lol brains are the best
Thank you for liking the video
you guys also make more than most any other doctor
Anesthesiologist makes more money is a myth. The money is more in branches like cardiology, orthopaedic, neurosurgery , oncology. This is the scenario in India , I don't know about USA. I will enquire and reply to you.
Orthopedics are top in the money list.
It's true that orthopaedics make more money but it's based more on the individual and their skills. I personally feel that it's not the branch which decides the Money rather it's more of personal efforts.
Super
Thank you
How hectic is.. anaesthesia residency?
Any residency will be hectic but anesthesia is a kind of speciality where you enjoy the process of training.
Reasons: 1. The procedures will be done by residents which will get them a feeling of getting involved in the care, while in surgery residency you will be assisting through out the residency training.
2. Over all the anesthesiology professors are little cooler than the other specialities which makes your life easy
3. The branch is having better work life balance over all which can be seen even for the residents
So over all , timings may be hectic but considering the above facts you might feel better relative to other specialities.
@@DheerajMasapu Thanks a lot sir..!!
