The submarine is the single most powerful piece of military hardware that has ever been devised. Just think about this for a moment; a single nuclear submarine today carries more firepower than was unleashed by all the armed forces of the Second World War.
One big question is: could submarines of the future become stealthy and completely silent, like the fictional one from Tom Clancy’s Red October? You should be afraid if this ever becomes a reality because this submarine was built solely as a first-strike weapon… and what a devastating weapon it would be.
They can also be used in a devastating retaliation against another nation’s missile bases and airfields. In fact, the USA keeps half of its nuclear arsenal on submarines either as a possible first-strike weapon or… or in retaliation as a deterrent to a nuclear strike.

Russia (soviet) used to call this disinformation. They manufactured a bomber gap and a missile gap this way. Intended for US public consumption. US military knew otherwise which is how Kennedy called Khrushchev's bluff in 1962. Today disinformation is used to manufacture climate change and climate crisis.

all 3 nations were sailing silent (passive sonar, eh?). stuff like that happens. you can look back and see tons of incidents at sea that where never reported, they run over nets, into deep draft ships, all the time. in fact russia was playing hide and seek with an american carrier and lost her, then decided to surface, and was ran over by the carrier. the russian sub had its reactor go safe mode and they had to be towed back to port. best part was when her prop sliced happily along the carrier it also rotated and then cheese grated parts of its stealth coating for the CIA to have.

The greatness of China's submarine fleet is that the one submarine that should always be hidden as far as it's location is concerned, the strategic nuclear submarine, was recently seen off the coast of Hainan due to being entangled in a fishing net. The Chinese SSBN has been in development for 20 years. It's about as quiet as the 1960's era Soviet Delta class...which means pretty much no one (Japan, Korea, Taiwan, USA) won't be able to NOT find it. As a class (2 currently only) of subs, they don't put to sea for often and when they do, the 4 preceeding countries usually have 1-2 subs following it from the time it leaves Chinese territorial waters.

Just like most Americans, this video narrator is clueless. USA military budget 600 billlion +, China 250 billion +, Russia 50+.
But the nominal value is meaningless in real terms considering that the cost of US labour is at least 3 to 4 times more expensive than China. A bullet that cost US $1 to produce may well only cost China 10 cents for the same bullet to be produced. Assuming a conservative Purchasing Power Parity (PPP) of 4 to 1, China already outspends the United States, with $1 trillion (250 billion times 4) annual defense budget in real terms!!

“The sovereigns of the world,” writes ‘Abdu’l-Bahá in elaboration of this theme, “must conclude a binding treaty, and establish a covenant, the provisions of which shall be sound, inviolable and definite. They must proclaim it to all the world, and obtain for it the sanction of all the human race... All the forces of humanity must be mobilized to insure the stability and permanence of this Most Great Covenant... The fundamental principle underlying this solemn Pact should be so fixed that if any government later violate any one of its provisions, all the governments on earth should arise to reduce it to utter submission, nay the human race as a whole should resolve, with every power at its disposal, to destroy that government.” (Shoghi Effendi, The World Order of Baha'u'llah, p. 192)

Russia has already caught up with the US in military technologies. In some areas like missiles technology, it has already overtaken the US. As for China, it is not far behind. In spite of the fact that US spends more on its military than the next 9 countries combined, most are not spent on military research. They are spending on fixed overheads like maintaining its hundreds of military bases all over the world and worthless wars. There are also lot of leakages because of lax control and easy money. Successive US governments are very generous when it comes to military spending. In the long run, Russia and China will overtake US in militarily superiority by virtue of the simple fact the US is spending beyond its means. Like everything else, the US is spending other countries money by borrowings and printing unlimited US$ A day will come when the world will have no choice but to abandon the US$ resulting in the Soviet Union style collapsed that ended the Cold War.

Ancient Rome had top military spending too. In fact it was one of the main reason it collapsed.
When you spend an insane amount of tax payer money on "defense" (more like offense) there will be a time when tax payers will reach a critical level. And given the current Covid-19 crisis it's clear some of that insane spending could have been better spent to *save lives*
Going to war to "save lives" has never been a very good long-term strategy.
