Rosie Duffield becomes the first Labour MP to resign | LBC breaking

- Vanessa Feltz hears from LBC's political editor Natasha Clark, as Rosie Duffield becomes the first Labour MP to resign... and then launch an attack upon Sir Keir Starmer's leadership.
Ms Duffield, 53, is the fastest MP to leave a party after a general election in modern history.
In her resignation letter, the now-Independent MP for Canterbury, wrote to the Prime Minister: "I am so ashamed of what you and your inner circle have done to tarnish and humiliate our once proud party.”
Of her reasons for quitting the party, she wrote: “Someone with far-above-average wealth choosing to keep the Conservatives’ two-child limit to benefit payments which entrenches children in poverty, while inexplicably accepting expensive personal gifts of designer suits and glasses costing more than most of these people can grasp - this is entirely undeserving of holding the title of Labour prime minister.
“Forcing a vote [on the winter fuel payment] to make many older people iller and colder while you and your favourite colleagues enjoy free family trips to events most people would have to save hard for - why are you not showing even the slightest bit of embarrassment?”
Ms Duffield, who became known for her outspoken gender-critical views, ended her letter with a personal attack on the Prime Minister.
“How dare you take our longed-for victory, the electorate’s sacred and precious trust, and throw it back in their individual faces and the faces of dedicated and hardworking Labour MPs?”

1 Labour MP resigning won't make any difference, what it needed was a group of at least 20 to tell Starmer if he doesn't change his mind on the winter fuel cut then they will all resign. Labour MPs need to show a spine if they disagree, because most will be losing their seat come the election.

They've been chosen by Central office.. those who had any rep as on the left were puyshed out. The lack of automonmous constituency democracy is the worst feature. Preventing honest locally chosen candidates
The shouting about wall paper & decorating in a Government building that a donor paid for saving the Tax payer money & Starmer taking huge amounts of money for clothes & personal goodies plus his wife on the snerg is beyond hypocrisy then you add throwing the elderly & children under the bus is appalling

So far, he has only been talking about the multibillion blackhole and accepting goodies for himself plus a vip seat at his favourite football club. So far he has received more than £100k in donations. And yet, he is supposed to be "labour". Isn't labour supposed to work for the working class.

Not often you see an MP resign on an issue of principle.
So much time for Rosie. Many things I would probably disagree with her about, politically. I still recognise her as a decent person.
The bullying she experienced from within the party over her perfectly reasonable, objectively factual views was despicable.
I applaud her for this action. An MP with integrity.
She shouldn’t have abstained the winter fuel vote, she should have voted against it!!!!!, at least she did the right thing eventually.
The fact that 53 Labour MPs abstained over the winter fuel allowance vote means that there are other who don’t like the direction the party is taking. I wouldn’t be surprised if some of them jump ship, if there are any more objectionable votes or scandals in the near future.
The funny thing is Starmer doesn't think he's done anything wrong.
