- In this video, you will plunge into the amazing lifestyle of Maria, who lives high in the Ukrainian mountains of the Carpathians. Maryai will make an apple pie from her own garden.
I Loved watching Maria cook in the old cabin again, it felt so cosy and comfortable, especially with the sound of the rain outside and the fire crackling inside. Very peaceful. We continue to pray for the peace and restoration of the Ukraine to her people.
Maria your mountain lifestyle reminds me of going to visit my mother's family in Italy when I was a small boy in the late 50's and 60s, they also lived on their small farm up in the mountains of North West Italy. I would spend 6wks there ,my Nonna getting up at 5am to milk the cows later I would go with her and the cows to the woods and wathover them as they grazed on the mountain grass ,she also did all the things I see you do, I still drive to the village every year to see my zia who is in her 80's she also lives your lifestyle, but alas there are only 3 families left in the village and the other farm higher up the mountain is deteriorating, I'm 70 now and have great memories. Ah Maria,watching your videos is to bring peace and solace to the soul. The cake looked delicious, and what can beat fresh rain washed mint in a china teapot? Lovely. Thank you to all involved in making this video so wonderful to watch. We continue to pray for the peace and restoration of Ukraine to her people. Also, loved watching Maria cook in the old cabin again. It felt cosy and special especially with the rain falling.
Thanks once again Maria for permitting us onlookers to share in your wonderfully bucolic lifestyle in the mountains of Ukraine. Your culinary expertise is always something to marvel at and my only complaint is that I never get to taste your creations. 😄My late wife was a very good cook, may she rest in peace and was kind enough to allow me to do some cooking as well and now that she has been taken from me, that has enabled me to fend for myself. I never sing while cooking though, for which the neighbours should be very grateful. 😉

It's an absolute pleasure watching Maria cook. She's so much like my Maria. She doesn't follow recipes precisely because she knows what and how much is needed. Just by experience and feel. And I've never been disappointed in any of my Maria's meals.

Growing up, my grandmother used to call this cobbler, she would make them from apples, peaches, wild plum, black berries, etc. Anything with flour in the filling was called cobbler, anything without was called pie. Yours with fresh apples looked delicious. I make them out of canned fruit, which are good, but nothing like fresh. I have seen several of your cooking videos and love the way you cook with wood. I am 75, and they were predominate in the countryside in my youth. Be safe.
