I hit a new writer milestone today - my friend texted me to let me know that her book club picked my book to be their December read! I very nearly cried when I read her message this morning, it was just a wonderful thing to wake up to.
I am going to be sad when November is over and I don't have a video every day. These Nano Diaries have really encouraged me to just keep going. Thank you!
"Work that you do is never lost" I needed to hear that right now, thank you. This November has just been one thing after another, I had a migraine on the second day and kept having them, my car needed new struts, my mom had a health scare (false alarm but still STRESSFUL), my cat got a UTI, the other cat caught a mouse and now we're having to deal with pest control, all of this on top of working full time and long COVID and house stuff and I still got 21K and now that I wrote that out that's actually kinda impressive.
I'm not going to finish by a long shot this year, but I am so proud of the progress I've made in my current WIP. So far in November I have written about 18,000 words, moved into a new place, left a job that was draining me and my mental health, and started a new job that brings me life and allows me to spend more time with my family. It's been a rough ride, but I wouldn't exchange it for winning NaNoWriMo.
"Welcome to all the new HB90 students..." that's me! I'm so proud of myself for taking that big step and investing in me (for once). I can't wait to see how it will change my life and transform my writerly career for the better :) I've split my Nano projects into 2 - one for 26k and the other for 24k which equals 50k in total. I've written 22k of the 1st project and 16.5k of the 2nd project so far - and yes, I will finish.
I hit 44k yesterday so i should be able to make it within the limit, although as i've gotten through it, i've realized i need to do some serious restructuring so i'm basically considering it a 50k outline because i also need to rewrite a lot of it. I have some physical disabilities and i got hit with a bad pain flare up in the middle of nano so it lacks quality in some spots too and as ive started feeling better ive realized i totally forgot about a dog and a car and a character occupation i included early on that ill need to include more later. Really enjoying the daily vlogs tho! It'll be sad to see them go.
I started out really well for Nano, then on the 16th hit a snag but had enough buffer words to save me. Then I got my first fiverr gig for beta reading and haven't touched nano in days. I know won't hit 50k, but I'm okay with it, trying to build out a side hustle, the story will be there when I have more time again. I always miss the daily vlogs though when November ends! They are such good motivators
I hit 50K this afternoon. Enjoyment of my story had carried me strong until the end of last week and then I reached the “This is awful and should be burned” part of the process 😆 I know not to listen to that voice and I plugged on, but I was definitely missing my writing streams and being with other people. I really wish Nano wasn’t in November! I ordered my Erin Condren goodies and I’m looking forward to getting those! December I’m giving myself a much needed mental rest and focusing on all the stuff that I set aside in November to get my writing in. I’ll miss these daily vlogs!
I knew I wasn't gonna hit the 50K. This month has been so busy with my new job and other issues that popped up. But I did give it my all and my main goal was to get a nice chunk of this new project done which I did.
I feel time is going too fast😅. I had planned to not write on Thanksgiving, and still be where the Nano page said I had to be... what I didn't plan for was my oldest getting sick and wasting a day at the Dr's office, so I'm almost a day behind now, but I'm sure if I set my mind to it I can make it❤. I am telling myself I'm too close to the goal to give up😅. Big hugs
I hit 50k way earlier than I expected, and with an underplotted brand new book. I leaned into my intuition and tried to just let go of the reins. It turned out so much better than I expected, and I'm super excited to finish this book!
So happy for your new adventure of HB peeps!! Im sitting at 45,857 for my first Na No!!! On track and out in front of my own tribe!! Stay strong and THANK YOU for your tremendous leadership!!
I wish I had what it takes to self publish like you! I don't have confidence in marketing myself and my work like that. For context, I'm autistic and when I get overwhelmed I have difficulty speaking. I've just started winning prizes and getting my short work published, so am going to try pitching to small presses and agents in the new year. I feel strongly that I need an advocate, if that makes sense.
I would definitely subscribe to hear you read Silas. I loved Sacrifice Me and it would really be a great set of stories about the other characters. I can tell how passionate you are about writing, your face glows when you speak about a story. I am only a reader but I love your vlogs.
45,909 out of 50,000 words. After being in the lead with nearly 10K my wordcount dwindled more and more due to a cold I suffered through and now I am not sure if I will make it. But somehow I lost my drive to really try. I will write on until I finish this story (hopefully this year) but if I reach the 50K this month or not... I don't really care anymore. Which is sad, but it is what it is.
You still have 3 days and the rest of today. There is still time. That You're not far from winning, so congratulations on what you have accomplished thus far! That's 1367 words a day for three days. I believe in you. Even if you win nano after November 30th that is still an amazing accomplishment. Congratulations!
Yesterday, Day 26, I hit the 47k mark in nano! I'm 50k in the story, which means I started nano with 3k words that doesn't count, but I'm almost there! I'm so happy, because this would be the first time I win nano for real, and I'm sure you will catch up and surpass the nano goal. You always do, but if you don't... that's okay because you would be taking care of you.
I was aiming for 75k this Nano to try and beat my personal record. I've had a few unexpected things crop up, as they always do in November, that mean I'm definitely not gooing to hit that without burning out, but I'm still on track for the traditional 50k by the end of the 28th. And that'll be enough to finish the manuscript in December. It's all progress, it'a all good work, and I'm happy with the words this month. But I just wanted to say, I look forward to the Nano Diaries every year Sarra, it's such a priviledge that you let us see into your life daily. It really feels like hanging out with, checking in with, a friend every day in November
I totally quit 😅. I started out with a slow word count, lost motivation and felt pressured to rush and finish. My project I picked was too big for me to weite for nanowrimo. Saw a video last night for new writers, it said when your starting out you should write smaller stories like novella's and short stories. You can't write giant epics cause it'll take years to complete. I'm working on a new project that's shorter, and giving myself plenty of time to write it.
I really tried Nano annnn failed. Lol but I did better than I ever did. Its such a tiny victory! But your planner really helped! Made me prep better. Thank you!
I'm just over 45k, so still on par - thankfully Preptober Me had the sense to build in a couple of buffer days, so although I won't finish on the 28th like I'd hoped, I also didn't stress out when I needed to rest 😀 Thank you, Sarra, for taming my over-optimism 😂 ❤
I still writing to 50k. I just bought a suprise sailor moon package so when I hit it I'll open it. So far, I have 44k but will have more after putting in my writing drafts! You keep me inspired! 🎉
Surprise Sailor Moon package? As a fellow Sailor Moon fan, I'm super curious. That sounds so cool! Currently reading the Codename Sailor V Eternal manga as a reward.
I've hit 26000+ for the first time in my life, and I'm 59 lol. I'm still going to try for 50 but if I don't I'll still be happy. I do think we should change nano to a different month that you're not so busy
I never set up my Kanban board for Q4 and I've seen a difference--in a negative way. So, I'm going to create stickies for December and then decide what needs to be done for Q1 in 2024.
I technically reached my nano goal of 25k around a week ago. My plan was just write a novela, a freebie for signing up for my news letters. Well I did it, and I said I was going to keep going, but I soon realized that I needed a break because along with writing I also got the flu. I'm better now and I'm okay with reaching 25k, because that means I wrote a book within two weeks, and that is awesome in my opinion. Once the final draft is done I plan to send you a copy of my novela and hope you enjoy it.
I haven't written since Nov. 9, but I did write 13,000 words in those first 9 days. Traveling during nano seems to derail me...and we always seem to travel in Nov. It's okay, because it's 13,000 more than I had in Oct.
Glad you had a restful Thanksgiving week and got to spend time with the family. I work in the bookselling industry, and despise when books come in damaged. Do a better job packing! I just hit 50k last night, but my draft is about half done. Just finished Act 2A, and starting on 2B today. Good luck with finishing the Red story. May the words be with you, and your fingers dance light and fast on the keyboard!
I hit 52K last night which excites me but I'm a Rebel, draft two of novel four. So happy with where I'm at, except I've got a total of ~112K words and am still about mid-way. 😬 Ooops.
I got the HB course a few years back but I have no idea how to log in and if I still have access to it, who can I contact to see if I still have access to it?
I hit 50k on Sunday, but the story isn't finished yet so I press on. I'm not gonna hit my stretch goal of 60k, but that's fine. I'll finish the story in December instead. I know I need to restructure it a bit anyways.

Same! Motivating me so in my day to day life this month 😊
