i am soooooooooo excited for this-- i want it to be my beginning of the night game for the holidays. Favor of the Pharaoh, Food Chain Magnate and then top it off with the Gallerist! Happy Holidays to us all!
Great review. This was a must purchase after my first game with Ted at GenCon. I did an immediate preorder to get the extra dice as well so that there isn't as much sharing during the game. I also, like you, think there is no issue with setup time. If the tiles are stored properly, there should be no problem with quick setup when rolling to select the titles and certainly not if using the App. Great work again on this one.
I haven't seen the person who gets the queen lose more often than not as you mention. Getting the extra die from the Queen helps a ton for the last turn if someone beat you on their final roll off. Especially if they were last in turn order, and the others don't get the extra die. I didn't hear you address setup / breakdown time. That was my only issue with the game, and I'm wondering if anyone else had this issue, or was it just me (maybe my tiles aren't sorted as efficiently as others)?
Joel mentions around 3:50 that setup was "super quick, you know a couple of minute to set it up....the setup doesn't really take that long at all." But then, Joel has natural dexterity of 18 and possibly some additional +dex magic items (glasses?). Unlike you, Dan, whose Dexterity has suffered, but you make up for it with a natural Charisma of +18. :D
+TheGameBoyGeek - Hi Quality Hi Energy Board Game Reviews I don't think it's a game issue. My point was that you can be tempted to pull the trigger too early, when others are in better shape with more (cooler) special abilities to trigger. That's the biggest selling point of the game, the tension of triggering the end game.
+Bezier Games, Inc. Hah! Actually when working together, the setup is less than 60 seconds. One person rolling. The other fishing the tiles out. I'm not sure that the D&D correlation is.
+Drive Thru Review Did you try with the app? The Android app came out I think on Thurs. This completely eliminates the rolling and cuts my setup time in half. But it I am pulling out tiles, (and putting them back in order at the end) the setup / tear down for me is longer than 5 min. I'd like to see how you have yours organized. I have mine by level, then color, then # on the tile.
I wonder if Fantastic Factories is (in some way) a lighter version of Favor of the Pharaoh. They look similar (experience) enough for me to buy only one of them, and I tend to prefer the Favor of the Pharaoh.
A small criticism. Try to emphasize and pronounce your exclamations, questions, doubts, surprises, etc. so your speech has lows and highs, this creates inflections in the way you talk and communicate stuff. I find that this keeps better the attention of your audience, produces a more likable video, and removes some dullness/boringness from the review and video itself. Anyhow, great review, and keep the good work.
+Jarb2104 I do when the emotion is real. Sometimes the highs and lows aren't there to inflect, if that makes sense. Criticism noted though for sure, but I do try and save the exuberance for special occasions.
TyphoidBryan I guess a major criticism would include also, lights location, his posture, video introduction, how he relays the instructions, how he addresses his final conclusions, location of game pieces, location of the board itself, how does the layout looks like, video volume and a lot of other factors in how he does his reviews. In any case, a "small" criticism is just for saying, I could have simply said "a criticism", I never really intended to point out how big of a criticism I was going to put forward, sorry if that seems misleading. Also, I am watching board game reviews, but since I welcome any kind of criticism when I do my work, specially when they have valid reasons behind the criticism and are not simple attacks on my person. I thought he would welcome any kind of criticism as well, again I was only assuming, perhaps I was mistaken. And last, actually taking acting classes, and acting techniques help a lot while performing in front of a camera, regardless of what exactly is that you are doing, because you are still doing something for an audience. Sorry for the long post, here take a potato, *hands potato*.
Drive Thru Review Great :) , you didn't come of as defensive at all, because of your response I believe you are actually doing it as you intend to do it, so no harm there. I also hope I didn't come off as rude, my intent was never to bash on you, or something along those lines, but really just give my humble criticism, I still like your reviews tho, or I wouldn't watch them :P

+Marguerite Cottrell (Maggibot) Good call. It's come out weekly for us still.
Just confirmed what I suspected after seeing your GenCon preview, I must have this!

+Drive Thru Review Thanks for the future analysis! Yeah my favorite is the standing around the table for the last round!

Very interesting end game. This has caught my eye! Thanks, Joel.
Thanks for the review!
No doubt it will get lots of playtime here.
The android app is up. It is easier to use Bezier games as a search string. No. 2 downloader :)

I don't know if it's the theme, but this doesn't really appeal to me at all. Good review though.

I would love to hear what your definition of a 'major' criticism is. Gracious, are you watching board game reviews or directing stage actors?

+Jarb2104 Well. I appreciated the critique. It was thoughtful enough. Hope wasn't coming off defensive.
