How To Improve Single Leg Jump Performance: Wall Supported Skater Squat Hops

    After a lower body injury or surgery, it can take a LONG time to feel like you’ve gained power back in your leg. It can be tough to appropriately progress and find just the right challenge with jumping exercises and plyometrics. I have athletes get their landing mechanics down and double leg jumping, but then single jumping is a mess. Now what⁉️
    Here is a GREAT single leg power exercise that I introduce after triple extension/load and lift variations (see our other content or search on PrehabX for these specific exercises). Simply adding the wall for upper body support can make all the difference to improve movement, coordination, force production, and rate of force development. This is the perfect bridge exercise to get towards unassisted single leg hopping and other advanced plyometrics.
    What is important to note with this exercise demonstrated is that I’m staying on the balls of my feet 👟 I am not letting my heel touch the ground. Why ⁉️ I am working on rate of force development and taking advantage of the stretch-shortening cycle AKA getting bouncy using the benefits of the achilles/patellar tendons. Most athletes are not landing only on their heels while playing sports, it is important to incorporate this in training.
    The intensity of this exercise is intended to be HIGH. Perform reps of 5-6 for sets of 3-5 with at least a 1 minute break!
