  • In this video, we build off our previous KiCad schematic diagram to create a PCB from scratch. First, we export the schematic to the netlist file, then we place the components strategically to minimize the amount of copper trace needed. We then route the tracks and label all components' silkscreens.

Great video, Josh. I'm designing a didatic Half-Bridge inverter to help in power eletronics lessons of my university... Your video bring me a few good ideas to use in my PCB design, thanks!

Hi Josh, I am a student currently doing PCB design for my 2kW Dual Active Bridge Converter which involves two H-bridges . Can you share you tips on how do you minimize the stray capacitance on switching pole in H- bridge structure in order to minimize dv/dt.

@@ysy2305 Sure, here are some tips on how to minimize stray capacitance in H-bridge structures for your dual active bridge converter:
      1. Keep switching node tracks short and direct.
      2. Place decoupling capacitors close to the switching nodes.
      3. Use power and ground planes to reduce parasitic capacitances.
      4. Place a metal shield between the high-frequency switching nodes and sensitive circuits.
      5. Minimize the number of vias in the switching node tracks.
      6. Use a low-inductance PCB layout with wide and short copper planes to reduce parasitic inductances.
      7. Consider using a differential driver to drive the H-bridge, as this can reduce dv/dt-related EMI issues.
These tips can help you minimize the stray capacitance on the switching pole, reducing dv/dt and reducing the potential for EMI issues in your design.

Hi Josh, Great video! I'm adopiting your design as H-bridge in my project to control a latching solenoid valve. Just a question: in the photoisolator pins you connect cathode of the LED (2) to GND and anode (1) to the pin INx of ESP32. Is it correct?

Great video but how do you decide the resistor values? Like lets say that I want to make an H-bridge to support up to 24v? I saw that you selected the transistor based on amperage and voltage ratings but what about the resistors?
