Thanks for the great vid! Getting my Thunderbird Sport ready for summer. Now I need to check valve clearances. Have you done a video on that?

Oil Filled gauges are much better than the cheap ones I got .... but also you can do it by ear with a tube to your ear down the air filter intake side of each carby ... you can hear the different speeds of air rushing into the venturi

Really helpful information for presetting the carbys before final balancing with gauges, thanks mate.
One tip for building your own vacuum gauges, use some in line ball valves and slowly close them to a point while running until it evens out the bouncing of the needles to get a more accurate reading ;)

Hey There.... that is a really good idea! Thank you!

Or cut the vacuum tubes about an inch from the end you plug onto the carbies, and insert a small section of brass tube with small bore to restrict the airflow, that will damp the needles too ;)

I am going to attempt a carb clean and balance very soon. Where exactly and how do I hook up the tubes to my vacuum gauges for balancing. I have a 2001 triumph triple 900 with, I believe, Mikuni carbs.

    Hey!
I have a similar Mikuni carburetor on my '95 Tiger 900.
Lately had some issues when it suddenly decided to only run on two cylinders.
Noticed today, when i changed throttle-cable, that only two carburetor open half way, the third one is completely stuck!
Do you have any idea what the issue might be?
    Any advice appreciated!
    Thank you!

T900 here. Legend looks the same.
Question!, where the two additional hoses on the carb should go ?. I rebuilt my carbs including new rubber carbs to head. Synced them as much as possible with current issue.
Problem is that is not stable in low RPM and it reduces high RPM very slow. Similar to air leakage behavior. My two hoses are open. When I close them, low RPM is stable but I can't put high RPM at all, it shuts off.
Another Question. I know, there is a CAL version, my is not, but I still have the hoses. I know there are to collect petrol viper, but like I mentioned my version is not CAL and has no additional plumping.
So, what;s the deal, should they be closed or open. Looks bad ether way. Also, why they take the air in and not through the air filter box ?

+Michal Augustyniak One more thing, I decided to rebuilt my carbs just because of this issue. There is no change after all, at all :(

You must eliminate the ending itself first.... if the engine is not ins good condition ... no Tuning will get it right.
Valve Adjustment first => Compression test => Ignition system Check => then carbs. check for vacuum leaks etc.

you must have a vacuum leak then .... no other reason.

i have a 2000 triumph thunderbird 900 with 3 carbs. is the balancing procedure the same. the carbs look the same as in vid

    • @rent2ownnz
      @rent2ownnz 8 років тому

+Jim Trotter yep..... you can also do it by ear once you have the basic setup done.... (mechanical setup) you can use a tube and place near intake venturi on each Carb and listen for the change in suction sound to adjust the other 2

My Mate just did his Legend 900, following my guidance and also buying these:
    www.ebay.com.au/itm/Fuel-Vacuum-Carburetor-Synchronizer-carb-sync-Gauge-GS-CB-KZ-XS-550-650-750-850-/221419014072?hash=item338d9a07b8:g:dqcAAOxyhXRTKA5Z
His economy from 8.7L/100Km to 5.6L/100KM
Needless to say he is really stoked!
