They make everything in the tornado look so magical. In reality, every person you see in the twister would look like something that didn’t survive an Oliver Stone war flick story line.
The 1939 MGM classic movie The Wizard of Oz is my favorite movie of all time! I was born in 1978. I first saw the movie when I was 3! Nothing in the movie scared me then or later! I cannot fathom why MGM deleted any of the original footage, scenes, music, dialogue, song and dance numbers! t was absurd and ridiculous! It was a high mistake! The Wizard of Oz should have run 132 minutes! I am so glad that the original footage was found! I own this on videotape, Laser Disc, DVD and Blue Ray! Yesterday my great granddaughter and I had a perfect time at our local dinner theater watching a live performance of the Wizard of Oz, the music, singing, dancing and acting was spot on, and yes Toto too. I first saw the Wizard of Oz in a movie theater in 1957.
there are deleted now, as BBC TV in the 90s had a uncut version i can remember watching it, in fact did you know it was 2 Hours and 10 mins the running time on the uncut (On Networks), this days there are so much cuts and edit in fact the running time now is 1 Hour 40 Mins on a normal standard feature , that nearly 30 mins Edited/Cut.

Oh yes, these scenes were in fact deleted from the movie! They were not just test scenes! You really need to use reliable, well researched facts! The 1938 original shooting script is one source and Judy Garland as Dorothy Gale and Terry the female Brindel Cairn Terrier who portrayed Toto scenes were deleted reacting to all of the images flying by Dorothy's bedroom window! Louis B. Mayer, Victor Fleming, and other Studio Executives felt it would be too terrifying for children to see the Gale Farmhouse scooped up inside the Cyclone/Tornado/Twister! Absurd Stuff and Nonsense! It was these adults who were afraid and terrified!
For anyone interested, this footage was in the original rough cut of the film, better interspersed throughout (for instance, Dorothy would've seen those extra things out of the window, not just the audience), but children of the time found this scene too frightening in full, so it was trimmed down for its theatrical release. Hope that helps.
Fun fact the scene at 2:25 was made by dropping a miniature of the house on the stage floor painted to look like the sky they shot it in slow motion then they reversed the footage

Fun fact, it’s played in reverse, as to appear that it’s fakling to the ground, but actually they dropped the toy sized house from the scaffolding on the floor (the sky in the footage is actually the floor of the sound stage.)

I would probably do the same, grab a tea, light my blunt, pull the couch up to the window and watch stuff fly by like it's a TV show and wave to the people by, If people stop by the window close enough I'd even pass the blunt to the witch. all this time throughout the movie all dorothy had to do is spit on the witch, spit must be like bullets to them.
I may be a 14 year old But I have have VHS of wizard of Oz and at the end of the movie past all the credits was some deleted scenes but muted one was the 2nd one with the extreme windy tornado and the 3rd deleted and another one with the tornado Slowly geting closer to the camera

If you’re wondering how can the house land on the witch when she is flying at the same time, she might’ve flew out of the tornado and landed on the spot where the house is falling. Another thing in the stage musical version of the film, it was mentioned that Miss Gulch was hit by a telephone pole by the time the storm hit. Meaning that Miss Gulch did transform into the Wicked Witch of the East.
Bet after filming the scene with Mrs. Gulch taking Toto Margret likely wanted to comfort Judy and probably apologized for making her cry and Judy probably apologized for calling Margret a witch.
The extra shots of the cyclone-- from 0:16 to 0:48-- are not in the finished film, while the rest are the back projections against which Judy Garland was acting.
Miss Gulch/The Wicked Witch scared the blazes out of me, as an adult! She was also "Cora" from the famed "Maxwell House" coffee ads!

There’s no antenna. The story is supposed to taking place in the early 1900s and there was no radio or TV broadcasting at that time.
