Plus, I've seen him quoting research in his videos multiple times. As far as I'm concerned, without tangible proof, that WAS just a hateful comment. Not to mention that the fitness part of youtube is insane. Some fitness influencers spend more time making videos of them complaining about something or accusing other people of doing something bad than actually teaching anything useful. They're just full of themselves. Unlike them, this channel focuses on improving other people, not putting them down.

    The reality is, use it or lose it. I see it everyday. People actually come to rehab and LOSE mobility, because it’s easier to push a call light.

  • @BrainError
    @BrainError 8 місяців тому +4097

    I had mobility issues as a child (& ME/CFS) because my joints are loose so they often locked or partially dislocated. Instead of targeted exercise I was told to stop moving. Taken out of PE and told I couldn't be on my feet longer than 2hrs at a time.
    I took this with me into adulthood and started becoming weaker and developing chronic pain.
    It's only now thanks to you that I realise I need to do the opposite and so I have. It was excruciating for 4 months when I started, but now a year later my pain has reduced by 70% and I'm stronger than I have been in decades.
    Don't get me wrong, I still have my issues, but doing stretchersizes, yoga and strength training has made the world of difference.
    A difference of being bedridden and the ability to hike mountains 💜
    I recently rolled my ankle because of a misstep and when previously I would have twisted my ankle, I now continued walking without issue.
    Flexibility and strength can do so much for you

    there are many things i was able to do as a kid that my orthopedic doctor told me not to do when i mentioned them casually. i stopped doing those things and i am forever grateful he told me to stop doing those things because had i kept doing them, my joints would be even more fucked up than they already are. i was seeing him for my repeated patellar dislocations (i have hEDS but all we knew at the time was the hypermobility aspect) and him telling me to stop subluxing my shoulders and to stop teaching myself the splits almost definitely saved those joints from being even more problematic than they already are. i (thankfully) took that advice to heart and some of those super loose joints stiffened over time to a more normal amount of flexibility. it didnt get rid of the chronic pain but at least I'm not worrying about all my joints dislocating all the time, only some of them 😅

      meanwhile i was on the opposite end of the mobility spectrum - i had everyone pushing me to engage in physical activities that caused horrific pain and when i tried to tell them i was met with "try harder" and "you just need to practice". i'm amazed i never severely injured myself trying to be as flexible as my peers lol
      i'm very grateful to the physical therapists who taught me ways to exercise and stretch/work on my mobility without pushing myself into painful territory. i feel so much better when i'm regularly exercising in ways that work for me, even if internally i still wish to go monkey mode sometimes lol

    🎉 Switching all my shoes to barefoot style a couple years ago was the best thing ever! Has helped me so much. If I try to wear my old shoes, my feet literally hurt fairly quickly! I don’t know how I used to wear those old shoes all the time.
    How I came to the realization to change shoes:
    1: After giving birth, I was having feet pain. My doc put my shoe next to my foot and said look at your foot, then look at this shoe… my feet had grown a size! But I kept that memory, remembering the shape was so wrong…
    2: I broke my ankle very badly and had to go through a lot of physical therapy. I started by walking barefoot, then noticed how much more balanced I felt when I was barefoot. I struggled with balance for a long time and realized I NEEDED barefoot shoes so I could feel more balanced all the time.
    Over time I realized I love feeling the ground as I walk. Like I’m just more nimble and balanced and grounded…

      Romans 6.23
      For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
      John 3:16-21
      16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. 17 For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. 18 He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. 19 And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil. 20 For every one that doeth evil hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved. 21 But he that doeth truth cometh to the light, that his deeds may be made manifest, that they are wrought in God.
      Mark 1.15
      15 And saying, The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand: repent ye, and believe the gospel.
      2 Peter 3:9
      The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.
      Hebrews 11:6
      6 But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.

    i will always be glad that i was very active before my chronic illness became disabling; martial arts, rock climbing, soccer, just running around in the woods playing pretend with my cousins… it was not a conscious decision, but i didn’t take my mobility for granted and i made the most out of what i could do, and i often look back fondly on those memories.
    to those who are able bodied: please take advantage of your position! take that hike, climb that tree, whatever you want! you never know when you’ll lose the ability to, so stay active for as long as you can!
    to other disabled people such as myself: don’t get disheartened over what you can no longer do(or maybe were never able to do); it’s obviously very sad but there are still lots of things that can bring us joy! i like to draw and crochet, making sure to take plenty of breaks. i like to drink tea, and write poems, and play video games, and tell stupid jokes, and while i have plenty to be sad about, im making an effort to create even more things to be happy about. we don’t have to be miserable all the time just cuz we’re disabled, and we also don’t have to be happy all the time just to avoid being a downer!
    to everyone who’s read this far: thank you! make the most of whatever you have, find joy and love in whatever you can, and have a wonderful day/night ❤
    (edit: omigosh thats a lot of support! im sososo glad this was helpful for people, tysm yall!)

    So true. Being an adult in our culture mean losing touch with the natural feel of our body. Sitting in the car, sitting in the office, sitting in front of the t.v, ect. We are literally discouraged from moving freely as an "adult".

    • @rRekko
      @rRekko 7 місяців тому +22

      You are not, adults tend to generate stress because of work and other responsibilities. Stress tires you out and leaves you with no energy to be a monkey, so adults usually choose a sport or a gym if they want to be physically, while other just destress reading books, watching series/anime/streams/UA-cam or play videogames.
      Don't conflate laziness and shyness with "discouraged by society" or some bs. People put way too much importance on what others think, hence why everyone wants to be special nowadays. A huge lack of self-worth and acceptance.

      Go out and run up those stairs, or chase your dog around or have them chase you, climb a tree if you feel like it. As long as you meet your responsibilities and take care of yourself, a walk and an adventure is more fun than scrolling through UA-cam on a good day, and on a bad day UA-cam will still be there.
