2022 Audi R8 LMS GT3 Evo II: Accelerations, Fly Bys, Downshifts & 5.2L V10 Sound!

- Here's a video fully focused on two Audi R8 LMS GT3 Evo II of the Rutronik Racing team I recorded in action at Monza Circuit during a test session organized by Gedlich Racing.
For 2022 Audi Sport unveiled a second evolution package of their GT3-class car which was focused on improving aerodynamics, chassis and traction control. Unlike the previous 'Evo' version which used mainly the rear diffuser to generate downforce, the Evo II uses the new rear wing to achieve the desired levels of downforce. New suspensions and improved traction control with greater possibilities of intervention have been introduced on the Evo II.
The engine is still the 5.2-litre V10 engine but it also received a little upgrade, consisting of a new air intake which aims to improve torque delivery.

I'll always love the sound of a car coming off of the pit speed limiter. It goes from sounding almost confused to finding its train of thought.

@@joe125ful Yea hopefully more V12 race cars! At least we can still hear them in historic events.
Pagani never made officially a race car within specific rules. But in the 2000s small privateers teams raced a Zonda GT1. Then more recently we've seen a green Zonda GR raced by a small Tchecky team. There's a few videos about it on UA-cam.
@@TobRacer well in formula drift the heart of racing Aston Martin team that normally competes in imsa and Sro have a v12 in it so maybe there is hope in the future

True, they have a road going V8 R8 also, we never know when they end up switching, like Aston did from v12 to V8, sounds so mute, that V8 merc engine.

Ive heard these irl at Zandvoort gt world challenge. Absolutely amazing sound. The best sounding out of the gt world challenge cars.
By the sheer success of it, I am forced to like it. I mean look at any series featuring the GT3 format, it's well represented from Europe to America. It and its sister competition, the Huracan very competent. The 992 GT3 has a lot of work to do, including winning back the teams.
Does the R8 Lms use the same engine as the huracon? The engine sounds very similar

@@verde629 lamborghini is owned by audi, the v10 from the huracan/gallardo is made by audi, the R8 and huracan are actually quite similar cars

Don't worry, endurance race cars won't go electric. They will keep the ICE running, maybe just with sustainable fuels. Electric batteries can NEVER compete against the power density of a fuel.
I thunk if we must all go electric, circuits like this should stay ICE.
@@naterod Trust me, all electric will not work, even if the EU says so. It is like every 'deadline'. They mention no sales anymore of combustion cars in 2035. You will see, in 2030 they will tell that they can't reach it so they move the deadline to 2040 and so on. Maybe Hydrogen or biofuel's technology will have evolved too by then. I'm in a master's program in engineering in which 2 universities of Brussels work together. You can see that the Dutch speaking university is focused on electric vehicles, whereas the French speaking university does research in hydrogen (inside ICE), so the ICE technology is certainly not to the end. In my opinion, in the future we will see a combination of both worlds, although maybe more and more ICE's helped with an extra hybrid drivetrain.
Also don't forget the fact that only a small portion of countries have access to the rare earth materials needed to make the batteries of EV's, when more and more EV's are going to be made, their prices will go up instead of down. Also, the oil market is way too big to be shut down by that. If there is something that I want to share, is that money talks. No-one, not even the politicians, care about a healthy world, its only money, money and money that counts unfortunately
I like EVs, but I think combustion engines will stay in motorsport for the forseeable future. Probably the best solution is to move to synthetic fuels.

That’s a very interesting way to mount a wing. Does anyone know why Audi did the under/over design? Does it have an aerodynamic advantage? I’ve never seen those kind of wing struts before
I've read about it somewhere. It says that The wing mount placed over the wing will give cleaner and less turbulence air flowing at the under side of the wing. This means more efficient air flow and increase downforce. The under side of wing is very important, the less turbulence occurs, the easier air will flow. and by considering the Bernoulli's law, since the air flow under the wing will be easier to have higher velocity. The higher the velocity, the less pressure on that area. The upper side of the wing also passed by air but with slower velocity, lower velocity means higher pressure
It's my personal opinion: the design of the "over wing" mount increase downforce without increasing the drag. You could easily make the wing more angled to increase downforce, but by doing so, it increases the drag force that make the car less faster. By having the less angled wing and let the air flow under the wing less turbulence, will give the same benefits increasing downforce, but with less drag force.
Please correct if there's any mistake..

there is a difference between camshaft/crankshaft how they produce and dismount on the pulley a sound,you need to listen. each cars create different sound.

Love how the guy hits the limiter twice after 3:25 - I only think this has been the same car since waaaay back, could they not have changed the exhaust layout or something to just spice things up a bit? Porsche keeps things interesting every couple years, and Ferrari is bringing in their 296 GT3 soon, BMW has its new m4 GT3 hoover nonetheless, so is it not time for Lambo (2015) and Audi (2009) to follow suit?
I think older r8 gt3 had a different sound. I saw the Fanatec GT World Challenge in person at the Adelaide 500 the other day, most of the Audis were the new model, but there were a couple of older R8 which sounded quieter and not as good in my opinion.

@@rsr-warrior Apparently the V10-powered Audi R8 will exit production in 2023, but I wouldn't be surprised if the GT3 will still be available given its current popularity. I don't know for sure though.
@@rsr-warrior I did a bit more research, specifically its the Type 42 R8 LMS which is quieter. The Type 4S R8 LMS is the newer one which sounds better to me.

N/A is best anyway.
I think that would be too much power for GT3, but some people put aftermarket turbos on this and the Lamborghini Huracan, you should search some videos of that

The Audi sounds insane with the limiter. I heard it in person and it's insanely loud. The Huracans limiter is way smoother but the Audi is so loud it almost hurts your ears.
