@@chrissnyder3430 Dover's asphalt surface not only regularly came up, but no tire/engine combination was able to corral the ever-growing problem of drivers blowing right-fronts like smokers out of a Pall Mall box. Since 1995, the concrete surface has had minimal issues (save for a ground down for an indy race and a itty bitty part that came up in 2014).
This was a tough track back in the day. Back when these drivers truly risked it all. Brett, should have held that retaliation for a smaller track. Could have injured Morgan.

The title was his to lose that year. That Robert Yates Thunderbird was a hot rod and can you just imagine how motivated the crew was to win one in honor of Davey Allison. If Ernie hadn’t crashed he would have been champ.

Even if Ernie had rediscovered his form from the first 10 races he wouldn't have been able to keep up.
Which driver does Ernie replace in each race? Cuz it may change finishing line ups bi mean, in this race alone, remove Bodine, Shepherd doesn't wreck. Does Shepherd win, or does he blow a tire and wreck take out Ernie. What ifs are great fantasy, bad in reality.

@@thelegendchrisb he was consistent at either being first or dnfing. that is not the mark of a champion that was ernie before the 94 season after he returned at the end of 95. it was also the mark of the 28 team as a whole before irvan went there. irvan or not nothing was stopping Earnhardt from being a 7-time champ that season.

@@nohbody85 Ironically, Irvan had the point lead going into the 1994 Brickyard 400. He also had the lead in the race with less than 5 laps to go but a cut tire handed the race to Gordon. Most people forget this historical nugget. Irvan lost the race and the point to Earnhardt that day. Sadly, a cut tire would nearly end his life a couple of weeks later at Michigan. Ernie wasn't leading the points because of an awful twist of fate in the month of August. It had nothing to do with consistency over the length of the season that determines a championship. Irvan wins the title and makes history at Indy that year imo without those two cut tires....
@Backwoods_870 Looking at the packed grandstands at Dover, back then they couldn't keep up with the demand. Now they have removed large sections because they can't fill them. 90s was the peak of NASCAR and I don't see them ever getting that back.
At around the 4 hour 20 minute mark, Bret Bodine wrecked Morgan Shepherd in obvious retaliation for Shepherd wrecking him early in the race. This sort of life threatening move was a trademark of the two elder Bodines. I was never a fan of Shepherd and I think he was a "dirty" racer as well, but, while I can see a payback like that at a track like Martinsville, at Dover it was, in my opinion, assault with a deadly weapon. If I had been a NASCAR official I would have parked the little creep and suspended him for a long time.
That was obvious. They even say so during the break. Was there any sort of punishment for what Brett did? He should have at least got fined. They should have parked him immediately.
@@josephscott6388 yes ... in fact that one pretty much ended Brett's career and he and Geoff wouldn't speak to each other again for like 15yrs literally, Brett even said it was the worse decision he ever made, they've made up now there is a interview somewhere about it that i saw is on you tube.

Last year that Dover would have a asphalt surface. The concrete surface of today was landed down in 1995.
