This is the best content you have had since the Strongman days with Larry! Keep updating us on the journey and keep crushing your goals!
That deadlift video in Iceland with Larry and the other boys was eppppppic!
@@tinymahuta that video had more testosterone than all the beta males in the entire USA have.
@@tinymahuta That video is prescribed by Doctors all over the world to cure Testosterone deficiency.
I agree
Absolutely!
Son Hafthor, I started squatting again after 23 years, inspired by you! Doing body-weight, but I'm happy and I feel strong.
Nice! Keep at it! 👏
All the best James!
Bodyweight's a good benchmark! Lots of pretenders online acting like they're squatting cars and trucks and it's easy but reality is, the typical guy is a couch potato who hasn't lifted anything heavier than a 24 pack of beer in probably the last 2 to 3 years, benches (1 rep max) 135 lbs (no joke, that's the male average across all ages, a 45 lb plate on each side and a 45 lb barbell - 135 lbs - guys who can do more will be quick to brag about it but that doesn't change the fact), deadlifts 175 lbs or so (again, this includes couch potatoes - and many men are - who lift nothing more than hamburgers, hotdogs and beers all day and sit at a desk job all day when not at home) and can overhead press a 30 lb dumbbell - once or twice. Squatting is I believe averaging around 2/3rds bodyweight to start so even bodyweight is ahead of the curve. General rule of thumb is, MOST guys who don't work out realistically can squat only about 60 to 70% of their bodyweight if you stopped them on the street and made them put their money where their mouth is rather than claim it online.
Anyway, keep going! Don't ever let the internet bragging get you down - most of them are lying about it just as much as they lie about their height. I provide these averages because there's a lot of unrealistic views online and a lot of lying - guys who don't understand that, for instance, "benching" 285 or 315 on one of those mechanically assisted machines in the gym is *not* the same thing as a real free-weight, full range of motion bench without bending their back in half to try to get it up, or who say they squat 500 and forget to mention it's on a horizontal leg press machine, and so on - it's like every guy claiming they're 6'2" when the average guy, end of the day, is 5'9" - nearly half a foot shorter (yet they all claim 6 foot or more). It's infuriating. And it leads to people being harder on themselves than they need to be. If you can squat bodyweight? Awesome. ANY weight. Awesome. If you're getting stronger than you were before? That's more than 90% of guys can say if we're being honest.
And I agree - Hafthor is great motivation for many of us to keep pursuing our next level! Me, I'll be happy if I can ever hit 51% of any world record lift - 60% would be ideal (that'd be nearly a 700 lb deadlift, which is plenty good enough in my book if I'm not trying to win some world competition or something - just being functionally undeniably strong - and that level definitely is even if it's not "WSM winner" level- is enough). Especially given that I have lifelong health issues that make rigorous physical activity for a prolonged time harder for me.
You got this James! I'm also doing bodyweight squats sometimes. You are Awesome. 💪🏻
@@kalevipoeg6916 2/3s bodyweight on your back, yes. This man seems to be squatting without a bar. That's fine, we all have to start somewhere! And holy crap he can make sweet quick gainz from there.
(Or I might be wrong and you're right!)
Thor training to Halo music isn't something I thought I'd ever see... but I love it!
That makes sense now for why I randomly thought about me playing Halo CE in the past, while watching this.
The great journey has begun
I'm one of the very few who were not familiar with the Halo soundtrack. But now I know and I love it too.
I really like the youtube vids more than twitch, since they're condensed down to the "best" parts. So keep these up please!
I’m so happy you’re back to this style of video. Just like the 2018 training videos for strongman with runar. It’s motivating to see you do something that you are the best in the world at.
I began exercising at 14 years old. The barbell squat instantly became one of my favorite exercises. It seemed to require the most concentration to perform correctly and it was the most intense of all the exercises. By the time I was 17 I was squatting 265 pounds for 8 repetitions, and these were squats done breaking the knees. I would like to note I never have used any performance enhancing drugs, I just loved the discipline required for progression. At 19 I suffered a lower spine injury on a leg press. As I was leg pressing my lower back slightly lifted up and I heard a loud pop. My spine healed after a couple weeks and I went back to squatting, but little did I know my lower spine would never completely heal. At 24 I heard another pop while warming up with 135 pounds. I suddenly had to drop 80 pounds off my squat and would squat with no more than 185 pounds. After a year or so I worked my way up to 18-20 reps with 225 pounds, but I never went heavy again. Finally, at 33 I gave up the squats because my lower spine did not like the position much.
Watching you move this kind of weight with good form is motivational. I am going to ask my Chiropractor if I can go back to this exercise soon since watching these videos!
I'd say a snatch is harder to perform correctly
Leg press sucks. I had a lower back injury from improper leg press form. Its just not worth the risk.
The Odyssey towards the All time World Record! Here's love and support from the UK to the King!

Halo 2 soundtrack is always a welcome surprise lol.
So glad to see you back to what you do best. Can't wait to (hopefully) see you return to strongman.
After Hafthor breaks the Powerlifting ATWR this December, he is planning to do the 2024 ASC and win it. 💪🏻🙂
The background Halo song was a nice touch 👌
3:26 I hear that halo 2 ost moon over new Mombasa 😏👌
Gotta love the way this goin. I also already see you did the 350 kg on your IG, and it looks flawless af. Just keep prorgessing and stay injured-free Thor, time will tell who's gonna make a big statement 👍

Hehe you can see the stomach coming back, he's eating good. Gonna be crazy seeing the power return to The Mountain
Man im glad you have decided to compete again. I think you could break the world record total if you stay focused. Godspeed from Alabama, USA 🇺🇸
I will watch every episode of the powerlifting series with Thor. Funny and actually usefull for my lifting as well.
I always hate the first reps when i am squatting 😂 great to see you back in the swing of it Thor how are you dealing with the increased diet? Is it as hard as it used to be to get the food in?
awesome content Thor! very enjoyable
All the OG Halo 2 people rocking out to the song In the video around 3:12 😂😂
Thor is so strong that bloody Mary is afraid to say Hafþór Júlíus Björnsson three times in a row in front of a mirror
Amazing content again! 💪
Great video Thor, you're leg training was fantastic, you seem to get stronger and stronger every workout, nothing can stop the frost giant.

@@adamek9750 bruh wanna be Lisa Ann 😆
I cant take Eddie seriously as of late, but this kind of content I get get my head around. Simple, pure motivation to watch.
Eddie who Hall?
Yeah Eddie is having some bodybuilding delusions, if he has any sense he should attempt to break powerlifting record as well, and have a competition with thor, that would be a better match then that boxing business…
when the king squats, giovanni also squats. that's the rule.
His name is Giorgio... !
Yeah Buddy!
The king of the universe!
you are the best
Love the halo music during warm ups. God it fits so well
Halo music goes well with squats
Perfection

I'm watching from Manila where Hafþór Júlíus Björnsson tok his first WSM 🥇. Great to be on this Journey
It's good to have him back in strength sports where he belongs 🔥🔥
@@Ugly_Giant_Bag_of_Mostly_Water Thor haters already getting *utthurt. Get ready to be continuously Desolated throughout the next 10 months! 🤣

The Halo music was appreciated! 😉
Some incredibely strong legs
Halo soundtrack 👏👏👏👏
Love the Halo music!
Amazing
Viking POWER 💪
the song was from halo lol i knew i remembered it. ironically i beleive master cheif was the same height without his armor
the guy benching with a multigrip bar upside down in the background is hilarious
You got this Mr. G.O.A.T! We are with you. It's all your's to achieve!
I like the soundtrack to, reminds me of vikings going into battle 😎
Hafthor : Bloody Mary, Bloody Mary, Bloody Mary
Bloody Mary : I recognise that Icelandic accent and I'm not falling for that again, last time I barely escaped with my life.
Hafthor : where is she?
Gotta love the Halo 2 themes in the background ❤️
Here for the Halo soundtrack 🤘🏼
Is there going to be an Elite fts collab at some point?
💪
you know when thor blasting the kitchen sink, his hair pretty much goes xD
Appreciate the Halo ost callback
I need one of them massage guns. ❤❤
YEAAHHHH BUDDYYYYYY!!!!!!!!!!!
Digging the Halo remix music.
That disappointment when Haftor saw ONLY 1 sets of 280 kgss :) !!!
I know right? I noticed that too.
💪💪💪
When Thor was a baby his parents did not know he would grow so big. Otherwise they would have named him Twothor.
Yeah Buddy!
Using all Halo music for this video? Nice!
Halo song at 3:10 love it lol
I would love to see What a full day of eating looks like
Did you have halo music playing at 3:15?
I've noticed his right foot points out a lot more than his left, mine does this actually unless I really think about it but it just feels more comfortable if I leave it as it is. Does anyone know if this is bad for you? Are you going to get an imbalance etc?
Evetime I see this guy, I can't get over how genetically gifted he is and how much dedication he puts into Strongman. Hafthor is an absolute unit at 6'9 and he's still strength training which is scary.
An obvious genetic freak - he's also mentally gifted (goal driven, disciplined, smart and methodic) - like all the greats (Tiger, Jordan, Brady) at the very top, the best are mentally the best too.
Thor is funny as fuck
How much body wight must you get, to lift your record
I came here for the reps, but found the Halo 2 game music.
You're not the only one. I struggle to hit depth consistently until I have at least 100kg on the bar. 🤣
Stretching man!
It does get easier as you warm up more but thors size us a factor
@@Lee-ic2yn I stretch every day, but I'm much older than Thor. 😂
I think this is very common among very heavy Squatters.
@@Nirsterkur I just have short, thick and old legs! 🤣
@@damiensmith9240 Looking Super Strong brother! 💪🏻
The Mountain
hears halo soundtrack.. ah yes hafthor, a man of culture i see
🍻
Is it hard to gain weight again?
Mark is GOLD
Is it halo music in the backround?
You just used Halo music in your video.
This is very good. I am very happy. Master Chief salutes you.
Halo music?
I noticed too! lol.
Is Thor twisting a little bit towards his right side at the bottom of the squat? Is that something that should be or could be addressed directly somehow?
Correct, and can be improved via mobility exercises (stretching). Might need to work on internal hip rotation on that right side. Important to improve injury.
Vinsamlegast bættu við texta, ég er frá Úkraínu og því miður skil ég ekki tungumálið sem þú talar
Your right leg looked a little more externally rotated than the left. I saw your hip shift a little at 280.
Is the leg swing thing important if you're just a recreational lifter?
It's a nice warm up for the hips
Great warm up
Great warm up and injury prevention move.
strongest man all times no doubt 😎
