I had the same issue with mine, and fixed it without sacrificing the battery: 1. Turn the unit off and gently prise up the front cover - make sure all the clips have let go before lifting it off. 2. Remove the 4 screws from the LED panel. 3. Desolder the 4 power pins from the LED board and remove it. You might end up needing to gently prise it up while trying to heat all 4 pins at once. 4. Desolder the red battery wire from the circuit board, and wait a few minutes. 5. Resolder the red battery wire to the circuit board and, without turning the light on, plug in a charge lead. If the red lights behave normally, indicating the unit is charging, then going out once the charge lead is removed, reverse steps 3, 2 and 1 above and you're done.
Had the same problem. Contacted Vijim via Amazon and they sent me a replacement. Took the faulty unit apart and disconnected the battery (simply cut the red and black wires). It now works when connected via USB.
I did the same as Henrik. It must be a battery overcharging issue. I popped the white cover off and took out the small screws enough to pull the board up a bit and cut one of the battery wires. Stinks that it can only work while plugged in the USB now but for my purposes I don't need the battery and light works again

My wife never even knew there was a battery. I disconnected it as described below. Device now works again plugged into USB and she's happy.
