I AM SCARED! as a person who have Dyselxia I want to pursue in Dental Hygiene. My only issue here is that I get distracted so easily, my reading sucks, poorly educated but again... those 2 years of pre-med you are being taught and being prepared for your last 2 years in dental school. Thank you for this video. I will defiantly go back to this video and take notes so when I do get accepted I am ready to go.

@@ConnorDibblin hard sometimes due to the language barrier and having all my exams being oral. I really have to practice repeating orally. I’m using anki flash cards and active recall and these “active” learning methods. I’m drawing and colouring a lot while I study certain parts of the body and in general images help me a lot with my learning. I’m finding all these new ways of learning and material new but it’s much more retainable and faster this way than my old method. At the beginning I was finding it really hard because being the first dyslexic on the course there wasn’t much help and resources for dyslexics as they never had any. They didn’t really know how to treat me or deal with me and said that I was lazy ecc ecc I was about to quit at the end of the first year, but now I’m still here and things have gotten a bit better and I have a tutor also who contacts the professors before my exam. I find it mind blowing that still today University professors don’t know much about Dyslexia and treat us as we are “stupid” or “lazy” and don’t understand that we usually just learn in a different way. I’ve seen a lot of dyslexic students in the past give up in accademia due to these circumstances. Seeing you become a doctor is really inspiring, I hope one day I can become a vet and I would really like to help out young dyslexia in school and address these problems to help them succeed through education instead of being marginalised and isolated.

That sounds like you’re powering through despite all of these obstacles thrown at you! I’m sorry to hear that the university is struggling to support you, I agree it’s insane that institutions still don’t understand how to help their students properly. All oral exams sounds really tough too 😮

@@ConnorDibblin thanks Connor! I am actually I got a really good mark in my last exam in Anatomy this month so I’m happy with my results so far. It kind of also motivates me and pushes me to do better to try and go against the odds. Yes, being a student in Italy all our exams here in medicine are oral so they can ask anything which can be really hard. Yeah I too find this mind blowing that in 2022 their isn’t support for people with these sort of learning difficulties specially in these fields .

I will have a look through my storage and see if I can pull it up! It may have been on my old windows PC, which sadly bit the dust last summer.

Flash cards are so helpful for me and I've recently purchased a C Reader so that I can use that to read my text books out loud (I'm someone who needs to look, read and hear - I can read but I read slowly and it takes a long time yo process information, I often have to reread a lot plus its tiring reading) which I'm hoping will help. Mind maps simply overwhelm me but I love the drawing idea and some of your other ideas. I'm studying Health Science Nutrition and really need to get all of this info to stick .... my anatomy and physiology exam is in 2 weeks and I'm looking for strategies to help me not only for this but for future subjects which i can start trying out and putting in place after my trimester break which is after my upcoming exam... it may or may not help me much now but anything that might help out for future is good. Thanks so much for this
