I was a Dimarzio guy from the late 80's to about 2013. Then I started trying out different Seymours. But then on a whim I ordered a Harley Benton single cut they were offering with EMG Fat 55's. So, I bought it. the guitar was like 300 bucks, looked amazing, came w/ the Fat 55's and locking tuners. No brainer. I instantly fell in love not just with the newer indo made HB's but more importantly the EMG's. I had a few guitars waiting for pup upgrades but at me age (50), my eyes just aren't what they once were, and I was butchering my solder jobs cause even with glasses, I just couldn't see well enough to solder clean. And at about that time, I started looking at EMG on YT, and checking out their solderless pups etc. Now most of my guitars have EMG's a few Retroactives and I do have a few with the 57/66's, since I really like Ritchie Falkner and his EMG yt video's and the sound he was getting. Probably won't back to any other brand. As for the 55's what I love about them, is they pack the punch when really distorted and tuned down, but they clean up just as nicely as like they SD pearly gates.. They're probably the most versatile set of pups I've ever played.
Awesome... if you get a chance, try out the EMG Revelation Set... they are passive, low output Alnico II magnets, but they are AMAZING. I do love my Fat 55's though!
I was an EMG guy untill my ear wanted more organic less compressed tones. After 25 years of passive Duncans and Dimarzios, I want something a little hotter and this video has me considering the Fat 55 set...Thanks for the demo!
Both sets sound fine. I'm a big fan of the Full Shred since back in the 80s. As for the EMGs, they were designed NOT to sound like standard 81 or 85. They don't use bar magnets. They are meant to sound like beefed up PAFs with the noise canceling advantage of actives. It was a smart movie for EMG to make this sort of pickup because it fills a need in the market. A lot of professionals use EMG because they don't get funny with stage lighting or other noise. In fact, EMGs are probably the most popular aftermarket pickup brand in Nashville, which is basically Guitar Town, USA.

EMG‘s take it by a nose imo, both sets good with different applications mind you.
Yeah man im a huge fan of any alnico emg set really, but these really hit the spot. The retros are amazing.

You're welcome! I used the 85, 57/66, 58, etc. for years... now all my guitars are passive EMG's... H1A's, H2A's, MF Set, Rev Set, etc...

Ok I admit the EMGs sound fire 🔥 lol 😆
Killer tune!
Hell yes!!!
Why does everyone feel the need to mix kick drums so loud?
I think it has something to do with your mom. :)
