Thanks for this. I didn't know about Dynamic Alignment. Over two nights this summer I took 120 OSC images of Andromeda. First night was no filter. Second night I used my l-extreme to get the subtle reds. The resulting two images were off by quite a bit but this fixed the issue. Pixel Math now merges them with ease.
Thanks so much for this video! I've been processing my first data using the Askar Colour Magic Dual band 6NM D1 and D2 filters. This is exactly what I needed to know in combining the two masters.
Thanks so much for another great lesson, Shawn! Thanks to your videos, I literally mastered the basic PI steps in a week. I ended up with a much higher level result from my old material than I had before. Sincerely, Aleh.
I did not know about this feature, as I'm just starting out. While Im not a fan of social media's likes, your speel convinced me to do this on your channel. The alignment process kinda reminds me of my Images Plus processing days!
Brilliant Shawn. I have two different sessions lights for M33, 3hrs ish 180 sec exposures and 2 hours ish of 300 sec exposures. This is just the video I was needing! Perfect timing!
Thanks Shawn! Found this very helpful when trying to combine RGB stars with SHO via the Bill Blanshan method. My RGB stars were not in same alignment with SHO nebula and this did the trick! Pixinsight is one big toolbox.
Dude! PixInsight is so amazing! I tried integrating the lights, darks, and flats from 2 nights and for some reason it not measure the second night's images and reject them all! I know that data is good as I stacked those ok before. The first night's data had a different offset so it may have thrown everything off with the calibration. So I stacked the nights separately and they created 2 images just fine. This is what I needed! Thank you!!!!
DynamicAlignment saved my bacon when a (very) widefield image didn't want to plate solve (ImageSolver). DynamicAlignment + Manual Image Solver script (with a reference image from CatalogStarGenerator) did the trick very well (if a bit cumbersome) so I could use AnnotateImage to mark the positions of the (tiny) DSOs that were captured.
Any reason you wouldn't just use StarAlignment with the two images? I've used that before when needing to quickly get a few different channels aligned in narrowband images.
you could use StarAlignment. I was just showing people how it could be done manually. If needed. Doesn't hurt to know how to do it different ways. cheers.
Hi Shawn, thanks for this alternative, I've had a lot of success with just using staralignment on my pictures using 2 different cameras (same telescopes), but I would like to take data from very different focal lengths and combine them, does this method have any benefits over staralignment?
Probably not much difference. Knowing how to do it manually can be helpful if for some reason star alignment fails. But that would probably be an extreme case.
@@VisibledarkAstro thanks Shawn, Speaking of different focal length integration, would you be able to do a video of how that would work? Selective resolution detail, without doing a 4 panel mosaic, having a single wide angle picture and with a longer focal length enhance the resolution of a single area? does that even work?
I have 5 files from JWST that are almost perfectly aligned, except one. I used the ImageRegistration tool and it did its job without problems, but when I was colourising the frames I noticed that one of them was slightly off at the upper right corner, what would be the best tool to solve this? I literally know nothing about this software. Thanks!
Hi Ricky - sorry for the delay replying. As you can appreciate I get swamped with questions/comments from all the videos. I try to answer as best I can. Have you tried using the Dynamic Alignment process in PixInsight? I have a video showing how it works. Not sure if this will help but maybe? ua-cam.com/video/DgvFvvtHX_M/v-deo.html
@@VisibledarkAstro I tried actually and it was a disaster. Stars were aligned but it added some deformation to others areas of the image. I ended up quitting the project lol I dont know what else to do.
This channel is so helpful, good lord I'd be lost without you
It would be very interesting to see the process of combining these two images.

Are you using Cuiv’s method for SHO?
You're the best💯
Perfectly explained as usual, Shawn. You've helped me so much over the years. Clear Skies! ✨
Did not know about this tool. Great information.
this is perfect! i was just having issues aligning my rgb and ha data, so timely! thanks
Thank you very much!
Thanks Shawn, whenever I have a concern in processing with Pixinsight I come to your videos.
wasn't aware of that function! You helped me again!
Hope you are back soon with more vids!
Did not know this. Thanks!
Excelente video Shawn. Saludos desde Buenos Aires y buenos cielos.

Very useful video! Thank you!!
Just what I was looking for Shawn. Many thanks.
Thank You. Great tutorial
You are welcome!
That's a useful option - Thanks!
So SO helpful, Shawn! Exactly the question I have been struggling with! You are the best. ✌️
Thanks a bunch 👌
Oh wow! I used this to align two images of M101. One I took 2 years ago and one last night with the supernova! I'm going to make a gif. Thanks Shawn!
Thanks so much for another great lesson, Shawn!

Well that’s something I did not know !
Thank you sir.

Do you have a video on mosaics? If not you should do one. Thanks for all that you do!!

Perfect Shawn. I've been looking for help on star alignment. Are the two initial images in a linear format before running the alignment tool?
At first I was like nooo not dynamic align, only to find I was doing it wrong lol. Thanks for the video, was a huge help!
Cool tip,Thanks! Combine the two with Pixelmath?
you could use pixelmath. In my example I would use LRGBcombination to add in the lum to the colour image. Cheers!
Any reason you wouldn't just use StarAlignment with the two images? I've used that before when needing to quickly get a few different channels aligned in narrowband images.
With these images I'd use StarAlignment, but as I wrote in my other comment it is a necessary input for a ManualImageSolver run
you could use StarAlignment. I was just showing people how it could be done manually. If needed. Doesn't hurt to know how to do it different ways. cheers.

Would this work with two different focal lengths? If so, any additional steps for that process? Great video as always!
Yes it will work. No additional steps. Just select the same stars in both images until it learns enough to align them. Cheers!
@@VisibledarkAstro you’re the best!
Thank you! What if I have 3 images to align? I repeat this same process a 2nd time or does Dynamic Alignment can do 3 images at once?

Why is there always a guitar in the background of a PixInsight tutorial? :)
Ya know it! 😆 🤣
