because they selected Michael penix #8 overall when they just paid kirk that fat contract, it makes absolutely 0 sense to select penix when they could've gone with positional need/value.
Because they undermined them selves with picking penix they created a controversial situation without seeing what a year would bring
@@mohammadbaig9073 The contract of Kirk is front loaded, Kirk will get his guaranteed money in the 2nd year of the contract, so years 3 and 4, all can trade him.
It's also worth adding the Kirk's comments on the matter make it pretty clear they did not make him aware of their intention to draft a QB, that to the contrary he specifically chose this team because he was led to believe he would be the guy, and he feels "a way" about how they did him dirty, but he's professional enough to not air his feelings publicly.
Yeah, he's still gonna get all that money, but he likely could have gotten comparable money else where if the Falcons had been up front with him about their intentions that he not be THE guy, but just be a bridge QB and mentor to his replacement. Also, as much as I'm sure he's happy to be drafted and drafted so early, I'm sure Penix also doesn't feel great about being drafted into this mess.
