  • This is my "aftermath" video of the DRL install on my 2013 Ford Focus S. These lights work on the 2012 Ford Focus as well. You can find the lights here:
    www.ebay.co.uk/itm/LED-REPLACE...
    I didn't see much of a walk-through on the internet with these particular DRL. The lights themselves came from China, and it eventually took like 3 to get here but they came! They were well packaged but there were no wiring instructions. It has a Red, Black, Yellow, and White wire. The red and black were obviously power and ground. The yellow i assume is an ignition wire and the white wire is in Chinese, so I didn't want to start tapping into lines on a new car without knowing what i'm doing so i just wired them straight to the battery. They actually turn off and on after a short delay when the car turns off, so it isn't a constant drain on the battery. As you can see in the video, the lights actually never went off until I hit the lock/unlock button. Since I just installed these lights yesterday, i haven't actually played with the timing on the lights to much, but I found out the DRL will turn off when the parking lights turn off as well. I assume this is just some kind of computer thing in the car itself in relation to the battery but it benefits me in this particular case. If anyone happens to know exactly what the yellow and white wires are for just leave it in the comments that would be great! This video will also be posted on our website at:
    www.tech2much.com
    I hope this video at least helped someone get an idea of how these particular DRL install. I will also be doing a video shortly on my fog light install which will be a little more of a step by step than this video was.
    Thank you for watching!

    the yellow one connects to the ignition and the white one connects to the headlights so that they Dim when you turn the headlights on

    Out of the Controller side...
    Red: Connect to B+
    Black: Connect to B-
    White: Connect to Headlight+ (for dimmer function)
    Orange: Connect to ACC (car start, DRL ON)
    Out of Connector side...
    Orange: Connect to Turn Light+ respectively.
    These were the instructions I found on eBay. I'm assuming "B" is battery and "+"and "-" are positive and negative.

    The 2 other wires are used to connect to your Fog/headlights.
    One wire is used, so that, when you turn on headlights, DRL turns completely off. (some country's require this) i think this is your ACC wire.
    The other wire is used to dim the DRL when lights are turned on. (DRL will only give 50% power in dim mode)

    So I purchased mine from Amazon through Vakabava. They come with nothing but a positive and negative (Red and black) wires. Between the power cables and wiring harness is a box which I assume controls the drls, should I splice into one of the headlight's wiring harness or straight to battery (plus a fuse)

    Another question for you Cody,I see you have a k&n typhoon on there.honestly speaking,and taking into account most guys would say it made a big difference in power even if it didn't really to much so they felt better about spending the money that typhoon is worth,without word of a lie,did it justify the cost or come close? What do you feel when you jump on the gas?? Thanks.

      bill smith hello i have k&n 69 series typhoon on mine it does make a difference but not alot what you get is a really nice sound from your engine and more response at the time of punching the gas pedal if you’re sensitive about what goes on with your car you can tell the difference no more than 5hp will be added imo the bad news is as it’s made for cold air only when you’re in those summer days and its really hot out your car will feel sluggish hope this helps you also I don’t regret buying it have a good day

    I have installed these in my car also. The red is positive and the black is ground, the yellow is for ignition and the white is for the power side of you low beam/parking lights so they will dim once turning you headlights on. I on the other hand did not want them to dim so I hooked up the yellow wire to the yellow/blue strip wire coming out of the headlight assembly wiring harness which that wire is for the little parking light of the headlight assembly so as soon as I turn on my parking lights they will turn on and then they will shut off if you just have you key turned on so you can listen to you radio without them being on. I also left the white alone not hooked to anything.

    Did you have to pull the battery out to work on it? Just got my DRLs in and waiting for it to stop raining when I noticed that the negative on the battery is impossibly far back in the engine compartment. Also, did you end up having to splice any wires? The ones I ordered have the turn signals incorporated in to them, so I understand that there might be a difference in installations.

    I just did this install after being frustrated as hell. I searched for videos like crazy and found nothing. Like you I have the 2012 S model had no instructions at all. The red wire goes to positive on battery, and the black wire negative terminal on battery. The white wire is what makes the drl's dim when headlights are on. To do this, you splice it into the wire that turns the yellow light on the headlight or the first turn on the light switch. I actually cut the wire and used it for the drl instead since I did not want the yellow light on with the drl. I do not remember the pin number but the wire I used is the wire from the headlight harness. The yellow wire is for accessory 12v power so when the car is running, without the light switched turned and in off position, the drl is on, and drl turns off when car is off. To do this, I fused the yellow wire with a 15 Amp fuse and placed it into fuse slot 37 in the fuse box under the hood. That allowed for the 12v power.

    Hello guys! I was reading the instructions for the DRL Installation on the Ford Focus and I wonder if you could help me with some further instructions. I purchased the DRL lights and imported from CHINA.
    I have 3 different wires colors:
    Red (which suppose to connect to B + )
    Black (which suppose to connect to B - )
    White (I do not know what to do with this)
    I do not have any other wire or any other color. I tried to connect the red and black wires to the battery and it worked but the lights did not turn off when I turned off the car. The light keeps shining all the time....unfortunately.
    Could you please advise on what to do with the white wire? Maybe this is the wire that allows me to ON/OFF the DRL lights?
    Thank you very much!

    • @tdwnex
      @tdwnex 9 років тому

      I believe the white wire needs to connect to your ACC wire. That should tell it when to come on.
      If that doesn't work try putting the red wire into pin 10 or 12. I had to do a lot of research and forum reading. Good luck.

      Cody Brown DRLs typically tend to sense the voltage difference in the charging system when the car's running (14.5V from the alternator vs 12V from just the battery), so when it reads 12V it counts down and turns off like the regular headlights do.

  • @lucaswyatt2931
    @lucaswyatt2931 10 років тому

    • @codybrown3480
      @codybrown3480 10 років тому

      No, these are just the regular ones. The other ones are on ebay for just a few bucks more, I think. These were the $79.99 ones.

    • @bradleywillis8092
      @bradleywillis8092 10 років тому +1

      Cody Brown Those are the ones with the turn signals. and they should flash with your lock/unlock function. They don't make these without the turn signals, it's just that not every seller on ebay mentions it. That's what those 2 extra wires are for are the turn signals ad extra functions of the lights.

    how did you get the plastics out of the bumper exactly.

    • @codybrown3480
      @codybrown3480 9 років тому

      I pried them out very carefully and them when they didnt come out i got a little rough with them with a straight screwdriver. Didnt damage anything though. Behind the plastic there is more plastic that im guessing acts as a prop to keep the cover supported, but the lights wont go in with that there so i took a dremel and sawed it all out. At this point i was pretty determined to get the new lights in.

    I got the same lights.mine came with like 4 wires, red was battery positive, black is ground, then i forget the colors of the other 2 but one is suppose to connect to your ignition or whatever turns on when you start the car and the other one is supposed to connect to the headlight low beam light so when you turn the headlights on they will dim that way they wont be so bright at night and blind drivers coming at you. I also installed fog lights that i got off ebay. i have a 2012 Ford Focus. i temporally ran the wires threw the door, when i get time im going to try to figure out how to run them threw the firewall. when i get time ill make a new video of my car and you can see it. so if youd like just subscribe to my page and youll get a notice when i add a new video. thanks and your car is looking good.

    One of the wires (most likely the white one) needs to be patched to the wire that goes to the parking light or headlight, off of the harness to the headlight assembly.
    I just bought these lights, and the instructions I got with them talk about connecting an "orange" wire to the headlight wire on the harness.
    There is no "orange" wire. What I have matches yours.
    Another person posting talks about turn signals. Maybe? The white and yellow wires are for "switches" at any rate.
    I shall be playing with my installation, and see what goes on.

      I didn't use the yellow wire at all. The lights work great. I have since added the R8 projector headlights in black, by Spec-D tuning.

      crabapple86
      Nice setup!
      I finally installed and figured it out. I also replaced my headlights but went with the "eagle eyes" off ebay. I love them.
      So I installed my drls and it had a black, white, and yellow wire. The manufacturer said the black wire needed to go to the negative on my battery. Yellow wire needed to go to my ACC. I didn't want to mess with my vehicles wiring so I stuck it in fuse F42 (rear wiper) and it lit up like xmas. The white wire is for your headlights or parking lights (your preference when you want the drls to dim). Since I don't want to mess with my wiring I looked at the fuses. But the fuse I can attach it to is under the dash not the engine compartment so I just taped it up and do not have the dim feature.
      I was kinda bummed but I really did not want to expose the wires coming from my vehicle. If it were the wires from the headlight I could buy another set it it got corroded or shorted or whatever. (Although I wouldn't want to drop another 350 on headlights either but it would still be fixable/affordable.)
      The lights look great either way. I'm very happy with them.
      Notes: If your setup had another wire (4 total) you probably have the drls with the blinker function. Connect the blinker wire to your "blinker" lights wire or find the fuse.
      If you do not know which color wire goes to what...ask the manufacturer. I found another forum with someone who had the same color wires but it was set up differently so I could not follow similar placement instructions for each wire.
      This was so frustrating at times so if you have any questions I am more than happy to try and help.
      P.S. I also installed HID lights and THAT is a whole other story. After all the work and anger...it looks sick and I'm so proud!
      So again, I feel your pain guys! Let me know if I can help.

      I am going for a red and black theme. I haven't done HID on mine, as the projector headlights actually do a pretty fine job. My next endeavor is to add the oem fog lights.

      @tdwnex 9 років тому

      Sweet! I'm going for the red theme too. Fortunately my car came with fog lights so I don't have to go that route. I sincerely hope it goes smoothly for you.
      I just replaced the fog lights with white LED since I don't use them any ways. They are purely aesthetic. I even got red LED lights to put in...apparently red is the third best color for fog. (At least I can maybe get some use out of it.) Yellow and orange are 1st and 2nd. Works for me!

    That's one thing I notice between the Ford engine and my old 02 Civic, they are noisy as hell. My Civic engine was so quiet you couldn't even tell it was on. Focus models are known for vibrations, Ford needs to step up their game. I'm already fed up with the reprogramming of my computers, and the Shudder Customer Satisfaction Transmission Seal Replacement/Possible Clutch Replacement (revised in 2013) and now another letter about 2012 Focus models may not start or lose power while driving and may be the TCM computer has electrical issues. Wow, Ford, just send out letters and don't replace our TCM's automatically like Toyota is doing with our 03 Corolla Driver's Side Airbag Control Modules circuit boards.

    I just installed this on my car. I had a weird problem with mine though. Had the Red on Posi and Black on Neg and put the Yellow wire into a fuse that was ACC. (didn't use the white wire, didn't care for the 50% dim) the lights would turn on but after turning the key back to off, they would not power off. So i swapped the Red wire and put that into the fuse box and put the Yellow wire onto the positive terminal and it fixed the problem. Just in case someone has the same problem i had, this is a quick fix for it.

      mine have been acting weird, they work perfectly 80% of the time, sometimes they'll come on and when i turn my car off and get out they won't ever turn off no matter what i do, i end up having to unscrew the ground a bit and then they turn off, and sometimes they won't come on at all then ill unscrew the ground connection and tighten it back and they'll come on, i have red to positive, black to ground, and yellow to F42 fuse with 15amp fuse. also when i wired them like you have them without the yellow they didn't turn on at all no matter what, then when i accidentally touched the yellow to the battery they came on, so thats when i knew i needed the yellow wire. by the way i have a 2012 ford focus sfe
