Maxpedition Lunada EDC Day Hike gear review

  • The Maxpedition Lunada is the perfect small gear bag for a day hike. I usually go on half day hikes once a week on Big Pine Key, FL and often make a 'mini-camp' like today with the Air Chair and Bagpipes and hang out for several hours, munching on Saltwort or reading a book. This EDC review does not include the items I carry on my person which include a Colt 1911 .45, neck knife, Swiss Army Knife (tool chest model), SureFire Defender Flashlight, survival tin, etc.

Good review of a solid bag. I just finished my loadout for my Maxpedition Lunada as of tonight. While mine is designed for my work in the urban jungle, I found it interesting that both of us keep our headlamps in the exact same pouch. Glad I found your channel - subbed.

And Montreal is good on Everything! If you spend a lot of time in the woods having seasoning/salt/pepper is one of those often overlooked things that makes the whole experience so much nicer, whether you live off of 'packed in' food or what you kill.

The Lunada does have a single strap but it is a very WIDE strap with a lot of padding. The strap is located in the exact center of the pack so moving between shoulders is not an issue. Yes it is a lot of gear but it is really a very small pack and the total weight can't get too much, even with the water attached to it like I have here. There is also a stabilizing strap that comes under the arm of the strap so the pack does not move. I agree that anymore weight may not be comfortable with 1 strap

I made the kit from a tube from CountyComm and some steel bobbins, needles, thread, etc. from local arts and crafts store. The kevlar thread was from CountyComm and the buttons were left overs from worn out BDU.

Awesome bag and content! I can't believe that the fr1 fits in there! I bought the individual first aid and wouldn't buy the fr1 better! Thanks for this vid!

Afterfox if you had read my description above you would have noted that "This EDC review does not include the items I carry on my person which include a Colt 1911 .45, neck knife, Swiss Army Knife (tool chest model), SureFire Defender Flashlight, survival tin, etc." I carry all of the items mentioned and a lot more in my pockets at all times in my pockets already and will do a video on general EDC soon. As far as unsavory characters, this is day hike use bag and not the one for 'bug out' use

Ha! It just so happens that I took some video today of riding my motorcycle and just set up my camp site for the night and waiting for the BBQ and bonfire to start. I will start editing some riding and camping videos late next month.

Versa pack is also under the arm or on the hip carry right (I don't have one)? The Lunda rides in the middle of the back just like a regular 2 strap backpack. I swing a machete a lot on many of my hikes and not having a strap digging on my right shoulder so that is a lot more comfortable with the Lunada single strap.

If I recall, that pace only has one strap, do you find it hard go carry that much weight on on strap? I have a versa pack and it can be cumbersome to carry when loaded out...

My only thought is you have 1,001 ways to make a fire but they're all in one pack. What if you loose that pack or it is taken away somehow, shouldn't you split it up a little? Nice gear though.

Well, this is just a video of the Maxpedition Lunada pack only and what I carry in it, not everything I that I carry on me in total. If you view my EDC video it will show you what I have on my person and in my pockets in addition to the Lunda pack. For fire that would be a paracord bracelet with jute twine soaked in wax for tinder and fire steel with RoadID sharpened striker and a fire steel clasp (all on my wrist). In my pockets is a Zippo lighter with a butane inset, a fire steel wrapped in duck tape (tinder), trick birthday candle with gunpowder wick, fresnel lens, more paraffin soaked jute twine, and a peanut lighter. Plus knives and the knowledge of how to make fire drills.

Some of that stuff can go into your pocket just in case you lose your bag or get it commandeered by some unsavory individual, always put whistle, medicine, wallet compass, etc in your pants pocket (preferable cargo pants).
