I must say this is so true and it worked like a charm in my case. I was having very poor English when I was in college and at work as I have studied in Malayalam medium. But I challenged myself to master the language. I have jotted down all my weaknesses at first, created a time slot for better comprehension. Like everyone, I have also encountered some difficulty in learning, but I never give up with my goal. Started reading books, listening to different accents, writing a summary of what I have listened and read. I try to present this summary in front of the mirror and later I discuss the summary with friends. I have added plenty of English songs, podcasts, web series and movies in my mobile to watch or listen, bought some books of my interesting genres and I do these activities whenever I have leisure. Now I can speak to anybody without any difficulty and still practising the language at an advanced level.
Actually i didn't quite follow all of your words... that's because my English is pretty bad and lack of knowledge about vocabularies. When the time of reading your comment i taken a pen and paper to add some words for the intention to study more vocabularies. I am starting from now on by adding your tips for the preparation for IELTS
