Thanks, Mike, from Australia, for posting these videos of your fabulous road trips. I have driven this road only once, and with snow, in 2015.I loved reliving the excitement of those bends overlooking those steep drop-offs. Can't imagine that "skinny armco " railing keeping a 40 ton rig on the tar if it was challenged !! Travel safely my friend...
Thanks for the scenery and the memories of driving this section of 50 a few times on my Colorado road trips. I especially enjoyed seeing it through the eyes of a big rig pro driver. I've used very similar techniques pulling a pop-up camper behind my FJ Cruiser like those you demo'ed in this video. Safe travels!
Thanks, Mike, for another beautiful drive. The step-by-step braking lessons are great. Although I never plan on driving a semi, I still appreciate the education. PEACE!
This is my second time watching Monarch Pass!! Beautiful!! You're commentary is good too, and yes I like your intro comment!!😊Thank you for these vids!! You're the best!!💖😄
I don't remember that road having more than two lanes, but then again it was the mid 80s that I've been through there last. Thanks for the ride Mike! I e enjoyed your videos, especially the ones through Colorado and Utah.
Just wanted to say Hello.I like your videos and your volvo.I drove truck in the late 70s and early 80s linseed oil tanker and gas.I had a 10 year expert safety badge.but one day changed my life and my career.love your videos!
don't miss my butt hitting a bump in a 79 international transtar.after 3 days your back was killing ya.finally gott upgraded to the 1980 cabover peterbuilt with air ride what a diff that was
Thanks again Mike, I love riding along with you, and the scenery is just beautiful. Keep the video's coming, be careful. George ( in Western Australia )
I just discovered your youtube channel a couple days ago. I'm all locked down by myself in this pandemic. And just LOVE riding shotgun on your trips. And the conversation...such interesting stuff about the countryside you drive through and the challenges and rewards of your job. Once upon a time I was driving on interstate through Wyoming on my way to WA state. And coming down out of the passes was really hairraising, because I had to keep using my brakes on the curves, and was afraid they'd burn out. The runaway truck lanes looked pretty grim. Didn't want to go there because it was late at night and it looked like a car would get buried to the axels and have to be towed out. Maybe some time you'll do a downhill out of the passes and give some pointers on going down steep grades for miles on end. Merry Christmas! Stay safe.
I've been up on the old Loveland pass. Can't remember how high that was because the last and only time i travel that pass was in 2003. I remember the hairpin turns and switchback curves.
It even sounds HEAVY! My Dad used to say to slow-drivers "If you want to homestead it build a fence around it." Doing Heavy Haul today. Stay safe out there!✌🕊😊 "Carolina"
Hi Mike: Another great ride. I first drove a GMC 970 with a 671, 15 speed, 5 plus 3, 1951 I was 13. Too old now hard to climb into my Yukon. Look forward to you videos watch every one. Keep up the good work, be safe and have fun.
My friend went to western state up there back in the 80s used to drive that road a a lot in the winter time . You know every summer in Colorado all the passes are like that Be safe
Man oh man, I can't imagine the terror of having a brake fail and going down that mountain road in a loaded big rig. I don't think you would make it far with all the curves and the chance of reaching the run away ramp seems like a pipe dream. Seems like the only option would be to put her on her side, if and when you had the chance. At night it would be 10 times worse. People don't realize that you don't descend these long down hills in a high gear and pump your brakes all the way down!
Bob Calgary Canada : I agree with you. Most are retired. Don’t have the reflexes as when they were young. I have noticed that as I have gotten older. I have been riding a motorcycle since the early ‘70’s. I have ridden cross the country and some in Canada, many miles in the Pacific Northwest which has a lot of curvy and mountainous roads.
@@tazmod7272 Yea Taz Mod I'm with you I'm an old hippie I'm not targeting any one group So many of them young and older dont know how to handle these RVs dont know where they are in relation to the road when they are driving around mountain curves for example
Highways are full of idiots who do not drive safely and focus only on their driving responsibilities. I drove long haul for a couple of years and it really helped me to become a very safe driver. I drive very defensively and constantly use my mirrors and pay attention to activity all around me, front, back and sides. I always pay special attention to what is happening way down the road. Stay safe Mountain Man Mike !!
Mike you are doing a great JOB. Make me want to be back in the seat!! . One thing I would like to do is pull 3 trailers. You bring peace to me when I watch you. Bye be safe Justaoldman
in California you are supposed to use turnout when you have 5 vehicles behind you. Very beautiful drive; wish I had taken it to Grand Jct and home to SoCal instead going thru Albuquerque.
Do you mean the pickup truck with trailer at 19:30? If so he clearly crossed over before the double yellow line. He was already past him where the double yellow begin.
Oh they do. Most of these Recreational Drivers do not know the law or ignore it. Many states if not all, slower traffic is required to use pullouts. Believe these Schooner Drivers should be required to have C D L's. Most of these Road Schooners and their tows have weight and wheel base length comparable to commercial rigs. Also have to say. In Colorado, Hwy; 50 is not the loneliest Highway, watch and compare the vids. In Nevada, yes.
I also think they should take a ride in the RV with a trucker driving their RV to show them how they are /are not using there equipment. Maybe takes some classes, understand that they have as big a motor as some trucks. And Gas engines do have issues on the climbs...... but so what get over, get out of the way first spot you find......AND if 50ty is your top speed, stay off the interstate.
I love how your jake brakes handle going down that 6% grade. Didn't have to use the brakes. How many pounds of freight do you have in your trailer that your tractor is holding back?.
is there a special endorsement for mountain driving? if not there should be. you should write a manual for it. you are highly experienced, and a natural instructor.
wa`whoo great thanks mike, 19.12 an just got notification 6 mins ago. ( ireland ) . enjoying the ride. . love the sceanery. . whens the last day of summer over ur side of the pond?
marsack7 Yes, Monarch Pass is in Colorado. The video starts at about Mile 193 climbing Monarch Pass and continues east over Monarch Pass to about Mile 213 halfway between Maysville and Poncha Springs.
You misjudge RVers. Many are full timers, not on vacation, driving vehicles that have trouble pulling large hills like Monarch Pass. I have driven Monarch Pass in my RV twice and I can have the same complaint about truckers trying to pass slower truckers going up hill.
The dead trees are the result of insect infestation, the mountain pine beetle and spruce beetle. If cars back up on me whether I am riding my motorcycle or driving a car/pickup I pull over so they can pass. I do pretty much what you do on my motorcycle. There is one mountain road between Sweet Home, Oregon to Sisters, Oregon where I play a game of trying not to use my brakes. Just up shifting and down shifting. I know the road very well. That motorcycle that passed you then pulled over might of did it because he heard something on his bike. Like your discussions.
be careful on them hills that's how my friend got killed cresting hill a long nosed pete guy fell asleep and hit my friends brand new white cabover head on.my boss put new cab on it and told me that's your buds truck heading out yard that's the day I quit he trained me
Public highway. If you are operating in the speed limits. No fowl. A lot of the RV do not have the equipment to move at your speed. So if you want to be on public highways be understanding of others. Or find another job. Jack!
It's not about rights, it's about simple courtesy. Which is nothing a shouting self entitled ahole will begin to understand until they are force fed a knuckle sandwich. Smiling in karmic anticipation. Expect even more trucks next time out there, the trend isn't going away. Have a nice day, unless you've made other plans.

I've driven those same roads in co,ut,nm,az, nv,ect., It's been 40 years ago tnx for letting me ride along. Brought back a lot of memories 73 Ed
You are an excellent truck driver!
Also an awesome narrator and creator of interesting videos, and the political views are also sensible.
Thanks for the ride Mike. Been a number of years since trucking over Monarch Pass. Job well done!

That is so beautiful there! God truly has blessed America! So awesome! Thank you!
Very nice Thank you for taking all of us along
i like that this has 3 lanes and a guardrail lol..some of those other mountain roads have neither...scary!
I’m liking ur intro, I think it fits very well. Thanks Mike for the ride! Peace ✌️

25:20 Interesting abandoned building. I've been on that highway a few times and I don't remember seeing that, right next to the highway.
Thanks again Mike beautiful ride peace...
1:25 There should be Mandatory Driver Training for RV Drivers. A ton of them are scared SH..LESS They didnt realize what they signed up for

When I used to drive that road, it was only two lane. I liked that route, not as much traffic years ago.
can i drive? are we there yet? lol rofl you rock sir............
I noticed you started coasting a little bit...... Then your jake started to rise to the occasion. Wow.
Very scenic. Where are we?
in California you are supposed to use turnout when you have 5 vehicles behind you. Very beautiful drive; wish I had taken it to Grand Jct and home to SoCal instead going thru Albuquerque.
Just went through there with 48 on my back. They have the construction going at the most prettiest part to. Be careful going through there next time.
very nice road trip thank you for posting
I was shocked when you didn't comment about that guy who passed you going down hill crossing over a double yellow line.
Do you mean the pickup truck with trailer at 19:30? If so he clearly crossed over before the double yellow line. He was already past him where the double yellow begin.
Nice to se Y in action and all RV don´t have the same power as Y have !!

I like the intro...i like riding shotgun with you. Get see places i never would otherwise. TFS
is there a special endorsement for mountain driving? if not there should be. you should write a manual for it. you are highly experienced, and a natural instructor.
This would be dope with VR goggles and one of those vibrating seats. :P
Took me till mayville to figure out you're going east. So west looks doable. Maybe.

Great ride.
Beautiful ride.
I must have missed it but Hwy 50 is in Nevada, the loneliest Hwy. This is Colorado? Beautiful scenery.
marsack7 It's U.S. Highway 50. It runs from Sacramento, California to Ocean City, Maryland.
Max. I just wanted yo know where he is in the video and nobody has told me. Anyone know? It looks like Colorado.
marsack7 Yes, Monarch Pass is in Colorado. The video starts at about Mile 193 climbing Monarch Pass and continues east over Monarch Pass to about Mile 213 halfway between Maysville and Poncha Springs.
I went over 11,312 ft Monarch Pass on the way to Ft. Sill 1964
Thanks Mike 👍✌️🇺🇸!!
Thanks For The Ride

Nice video saludos desde New York
That RV was towing a Jeep lol
Polaris, makes the new Indian bikes here in Minnesota.
Where is Monark pass?
i wood like to ride along but i am scared of highs
guard rails would be a plus, long way down.

So many places that if a front right tire blow's.........
I don't know why a driver does not know how much weight they are pulling, nor what they are hauling? Strange to me
