I was there at this performance and I can tell you that SCV was brimming with such overwhelming confidence that night that in my opinion had not been seen since the 89 Championship. Once Gail Royer announces the show to the audience it was breathtaking -You can hear it in their playing - the term “on top of the beat” can definitely be applied here. Every note was ringing!!!Exciting doesn’t even begin to describe how the corps was playing and how everyone in the audience that night felt when they played their first note to the last note of the famed “Bottle Dance “They were on fire ! Listen to this performance and then to Finals -Sadly the confidence had eroded by Finals and though exciting the show had worn thin -it was a tough season of so many changes -but at least on this Concord Pavilion performance -their first public performance of Fiddler -Santa Clara believed they were on their way to another World Championship. Thank you for posting this very historic performance.
@@StephenKershaw1 I love those SCV years too. For me it’s apples and oranges in terms of contrasting style and approach when comparing SCV and BD during those years. That said another era of SCV superiority is of course, 2016-19

There's definitely a noticeable hype from the drumline, especially with "Poof!" (the first number they play), then the cadence.
Spot on!
The corps that could have played ANYTHING!
I marched 1991-1996. I miss what drum corps used to be. I'm not a huge fan of the big production shows on the field these days.
Wow - I've been telling people we played "Far From the Home I Love" for a warmup for years. I loved that piece. Now here it is - my proof. Thank you!
That small window of time in the early 90's where SCV's drumline was superior to BD (91-93).
Those ScoJo lines are just amazing, whether he is teaching SCV or BD
well one could argue 87, 88, 89 and 90 were all superior to BD... good stuff...

@@jeffe_77 both Hardimon and Float were masters of the West Coast
So much talent and future tech and cap-heads from this line.
Jeff Queen, Nick Angelis, Murray Gusseck, Colin McNutt, just to name a few.
Does anyone know the name of the brass warmup? I love this... especially the last note!!!
I'm in that hornline but I have zero memory of it.
Far from the home I love. Unfortunately I think this is the one recording there is
10:32 -10:36 that's some tenor playing right there.
That whole phrase was really cool, starting from the buzzes on the spocks.
2020
This is what LEGENDS OF RUDIMENTARY IS PARTIALLY ALL ABOUT of course.
I'm glad the made the changes they did. This ended up being my favorite show ever despite how low the judges thought of it. They always suck though.
Legendary. What a line.
damn these guys play like Scojo was at the helm....wait nvm
audience is just throwing babies out there
Oh oh yes.
