  • The big Granberg chainsaw mill and the Stihl 661 cruise through this cedar! But of course, most of the work is in cutting and hauling the logs and branches.

    A very simple stair method is the box on box. Especially temp stairs. Jut scab the boxes together and install the treads. Half hour max, including foundation work. Scrap 1Xs, 2Xs, whatever.

    The chirality or twist in a tree is due to coreolis acceleration. As the earth is spinning the tree and its limbs are standing still in relative rotational terms which induces a very slight rotational force or torque. This causes the trees in the northern hemisphere to twist clockwise and counterclockwise in the southern hemisphere. Trees from the equatorial regions are dead straight.

    Hey Ryan, hope this msg reaches ya well! By the time you see this it's probably to late but I have seen you over the years struggle a bit with water. Have you ever though about making a rain catchment system? I'm sure you could come up with some sort of wooden structure, lined with tarp,plastic or metal. Pine needles might need to have a pre-filter but I have no doubt you will figure something out. Once it's built, it would work for you, not you working to fill it!

    • @quirkydad6083

    • @lindapetersen1800
      @lindapetersen1800 Місяць тому

      That is what I was thinking also the pine needles plus of the coal from the firepit would do the water great for drinking !!! With the sand around the place by the streams that run through there it would be great for Ryan then to drink & use it !!! He has the tanks for heating so why not use it for heating water in the Outdoor Kitchen for himself !!!

    I was up too early in the Thumb getting things ready for chainsaw milling at Sanilac County Historical Village and Museum. I got through one log before a u-bolt broke on the Granberg. Then I went to free hand. I was instructing an AmeriCorps crew on chainsaw milling. We were making good progress making landscape timbers from dead white pine trees on museum property.
    So I sit here in the evening drinking beer instead of coffee for my Saturday evening Ringworm dose. Thanks Ryan and Tito for the entertainment. Tito needs a bigger air guitar.

    Just a thought, enclose the main kitchen area but put sliding windows that you could open up in the summer for that ooen air concept. Then leave the other half open walls year round. That way you have a warm place to enjoy cooking and eating a meal in the winter.

    I've been working on this concept for a week now, maybe you can see some worth in it. EZ Boardwalk band saw mills are the only ones (I think) who angle their saw blade 15 degrees to the log (similar to what you did when cutting up that center rotten log at 90 degrees) which makes the cutting easier as the blade is pulling itself through the cut and going longways to the log strips the log fibers instead of cross cutting them. The idea is to angle your Grandview to the left and see if that isn't easier (and should be less strain on the chainsaw as well).

    I imagine the chirality of trees is influenced, mainly by the predominant winds in the area they are growing. I don’t know, just my assumption, but if that is true, then the chirality would likely be generally the same in localized areas if exposed to similar wind patterns. If you find out more or get a definitive answer about any of this, I would love to hear more about it.

    Crochet thats a good Idea but so is corn hole bags of dryed corn thrown into a slanted target kind of like years ago Jarts like large heavy arrows you throw unfortunately they were outlawed as being to dangerous for kids to play with in the back yard. Well looks like city wide yard cleanup to day except for us none compliant types. I do need to get my butt out there n start raking n mowing maybe build a deck in the back of my shack of a very old cheap house I might have an old chain saw or two one electric n one old McCulla back in the day they were a good chain saw but Now Stihl is the saw of choice but their expensive unless you shop pawn shops for tools like some of us do. Then there is the lake property putting in and repairing the Dock and my moms old two n a half storey sometimes needs maintenance. Its a bitch to paint that old thing. basically used for hunters n campers n BBQ's. And drinking beer and lots of whiskey.
