I met a guy at MagicFest a few years ago who played a Gitrog Monster commander deck with only pre-modern cards in the 99. It was the funniest deck I've ever had combo on me.
Now all wotc needs to do is make a Sultai frog legend and gitrog, Grolrog and Yargle can all live together in harmony in edh
I'm way ahead of ya, I've been spamming that at Gavin Verhey for the last month, some day we'll get one... some day...
When this day comes, I'll also need to get the secret lair yargle cards.... by far my favourite art in recent years.

Love building unsung tribal decks. They all need a commander eventually :). What theme could we give frogs to make them effective? The commander could anthem them by +1+1 in addition to giving them counters like reach and/or deathtouch. There could be a golgari poison frog subtheme of new creatures mixed with frogs like you mentioned in samurai. Like a tree frog that is literally a tree and a frog with defender. Frogs could give insect tokens to opponents when they attack and if blocked you draw two or something flavorful. Any thoughts?

Whenever a Frog creature attacks, defending player creates a 1/1 green insect token. Whenever an Insect creature dies, create a Food token
1BUG,T = Target creature loses all abilities and becomes a 3/3 Frog until your next turn.
I love frogs. Frogs are very nice. I remember rescuing frogs that jumped in my Nan's pool and letting 'em go free. In return, they promised me "Top 10 Vintage Cards (Minus Power 9)"!

It’s just a fog in other formats, but it’s hell in a muldrotha commander deck
@@Simonk_6 Basically any deck that can reliably reanimate it every turn. Turn 1 FogFrog in a Meren deck is basically game ending unless an opponent can find a way to exile it.
It has only 3 points.

Finally a reason to cast polymorphist jest on myself.
I know this is mostly a joke, but Grolnok will also lose his abilities if you cast polymorphist jest, so it only works if you cast him after the jest on the same turn, or if you have some way to take him off the battlefield and then bring him back.
I literally did this exact search on scryfall last night XD Expected to see Spore Frog or Yargle on here!
Spore Frog I can understand, but why Yargle?

I'd start with Infect cards like Tainted Strike, Phyresis, Hand of the Praetors, Grafted Exoskeleton, and Glistening Oil, then cards that protect your commander like Kaya's Ghostform, Soul Channeling, Swiftfoot Boots, Dark Privilege, and Boon of Erebos, some cheap to cast auras/equipment like Bone Saw, Shuko, Unholy Strength, and Sword of Fire and Ice, then a removal package, and possibly even a few surprises like Withering Boon, Rogue's Passage, and Infernal Darkness.
There are weaknesses to this deck, and there's a few ways to address some of them
Can't get through a token heavy meta?? Drown in Sorrow, Echoing Decay, Illness in the Ranks, Virulent Plague, Outbreak, and Engineered Plague will clear the way, and Rogue's passage gets Yargle through for damage.
Your artifacts and auras getting removed a lot?? Perhaps replace a few with creatures or spells that can pump or regenerate Yargle.
Yargle feels slow at 5 cmc?? Dark Ritual, Blood Pet, Basal Thrull, Lotus Petal, Sol Ring, Culling the Weak, Sacrifice, Ebon Stronghold, and Lake of the Dead ramp Yargle out on turn 3, even occasionally turn 2.
Keep getting stuck hitting for 9 infect and nothing more?? Proliferate cards, Virulent Boon, Ichor Rats and Unspeakable Symbol will solve that issue.
Forced to constantly sacrifice Yargle?? Weaponcraft Enthusiast, Sengir Autocrat, Lazotep Reaver, Ophiomancer, Bitterblossom, Rite of Belzenlok, and Endrek Sahr will give you sacrifice fodder
Want more infect?? Skytherix, Septic Rats, Plague Stinger, Necropede, Plague Myr, and Ichorclaw Myr all provide help. Skytherix is another win condition too.
Yargle has low toughness?? Slagwurm Armor solves that.
Lastly run Demonic Tutor, Vampiric Tutor, Grim Tutor, Profane Tutor, Rhystic Tutor, and some draw like Phyrexian Arena, Necropotence, Night's Whisper, Sign in Blood, and Read the Bones.

Well, I was in the middle of something... but top 10 MTG frogs is definently more important.
Thought for sure that Spore Frog was gonna be on the list.
2:30 don't forget that Polymorphist's Jest does combo with Izzet Staticaster, which allows you to do a one-sided creature board wipe :D It's a pretty economic combo that can deal with indestructible, shroud, hexproof and protection, as well as massive attack swings!

You can't play artifacts on turn 0??? Turn 0 refers to being able to combo off at instant speed on your opponent's first turn when you're on the draw.
Simian spirit guide, Elvish spirit guide, pyretic ritual, there's three mana for shimmer myr, from there plenty of 0 drops to enable the frogmite. Super rare but possible
Did I say Turn 0? I meant turn 1 of course.

@@WylliamJudd shimmer myr has flash and grants flash to artifacts, simian spirit guide and elvish spirit guide are cards that can be exiled from your hand for mana at instant speed, pyretic ritual is an instant. Not sure which part you're referring to unless it's the frogmite(understandably) but it does gain flash from the shimmer myr.

Frogmite actually isn't a frog though, it would probably be categorized as a construct
Gatherer is showing it as a Frog. It's pretty normal for old cards to have incorrect typing, hence the database being a useful authority to track all the type errata over the years.

Hm, with how much I saw everyone and their mother hype up Gitrog as well as my play group having a guy who has it as his favorite commander, thought he would be higher.
All EDH unfortunately. Powerful as fuck as a commander.
Yeah, he's good in cEDH. There is a two card combo with the frog that goes infinite and is really really easy to setup turn 2-4. He was S tier for a long time, but the frog is sadly not as powerful these days due to power creep
