This song is about his father that died several years ago. His father was a pro baseball player and never there for Tim and his mom.😢

This was popular when my husband was dying of pancreatic cancer. Left me in tears every time i heard it. Just found out 18 yrs later it still does.😢

This song came on at a BBQ place my late husband and I were eating at. He had just begun dealing with his cancer.
Been 10 years since he passed and this song still gets to me.

He wrote it about his father, the Philadelphia Phillies pitcher. They were estranged, and were getting in contact. They patched it up and the result was that he died of a brain tumour.

RIP Tugger 🕊 # 45 forever. Living the 1st 30yrs of my life outside Philly, Tug McGraw went from being a Phillies Legend to that cool, fun loving Uncle that also happened to be a baseball legend when he transitioned to broadcast & sports reporting. As a teen, I met Tug at a celebrity pro-am golf tournament a friend's dad was participating. After following Tug from hole to hole unsuccessfully trying to get an autograph, I went over to the tent for lunch. Tug came in a few minutes later for lunch as well & sat at my table. As a teen I was 🤯 WOW! Tug didn't disappoint, he was kind, cheerful, charming, & absolutely hilarious.

Tim has had staying power by selecting songs that were well written. So much better than most of today's country, IMO. Saw him in concert in the 90s.

I have such a happy memory of this song. When my nephew was ten and loved to sing. He did this for a 5th grade talent show. Wore the black hat and everything. He had a little trouble with the first verse but after he got through the chorus he nailed the rest.

His dad was a Philadelphia Philies baseball pitcher. He didn't know it until later in life . His father was diagnosed with brain cancer and he was able to repair the pain and lost love with his father before he passed ...

This song came out when my father was dying of pancreatic cancer. The beginning, looking at the X-rays!! Can't even imagine what my dad thought at that moment.😭

This song had been out for awhile but came on the day I left the hospital after finding out my dad had cancer and there was nothing they could do. My world just fell apart when I walked in his room at the hospital that day he was sitting there with his hand on his stomach and told us he has cancer. I can’t imagine what he must of thought hearing that news either

Tim did not know his father was baseball legend Tug McGraw until he was 11 years old. Funny thing is, Tug's team and Tug himself were Tim's favorites. Tug denied him at first but they finally built a relationship and then he lost his Dad in 2004.

I don't know if you even know what this song is all about.. Tim's dad was "Tug" McGraw. He died of brain cancer in 2004 after retiring from Major League Baseball. The song is a tribute to his dad and that's what the lyrics are all about.. There's nothing funny about the song or lyrics whatsoever.. Tug grew up and played baseball in my hometown in Cali. He dated my aunt while in High School. I used to see him as a little tike when he would come over to my grandmothers house in the early 1960's, before he was drafted by the NY Mets. Those home video shots that you are watching of him as a young teenager goofing around were taken at his childhood home on Carolina Street in Vallejo, CA... RIP Tugger!
