The epitome of sportsmanship said right here by Max Whitlock:
“We’re in a respectful sport where you want everyone to do their best and you want everyone to be the best in the final.” At the end of the day, that’s what it should be about. No matter what the end result, if you’ve legitimately done your best going against the best that there is, that’s all you can ask for and that is the true definition of success.
That 3 minutes 17 encapsulates why he has won so much. His attitude is absolutely spot on. Plus he's a nice guy, which is a bonus.
Max: He's not competing but Kohei UchImura is here so it's always great to see him.
Me: where? Where? WHERE IS HE? SHOW US THE CROWD.
He’s backstage. Several gymnast, including Oleg Verniaiev, took a picture with him during training.
It's not even a real rivalry, tbh. When everyone hits, Max wins - he's got the D and judges don't seem to care about his flexed feet. The scores are not showing that anyone's really even close to him.
Even as a joke, it's uninteresting to keep asking and reinforcing the idea of rivalries in the sport of gymnastics. All athletes are competing to be their best, against themselves, aiming for different things and appreciative of everybody else's efforts.
yes perpetuating this "rivaly" is absolutely my least favorite thing Jessica does and I really wish she would stop. It's one thing to talk about it on your personal podcast but it's another to keep pestering the athletes with it over and over and over again.
Hmmm... These sports are competitions though; rivalries are built into them...
@eiraremejeene being competitive does not equal building rivalry. They all want to win, and there will always be favorites, but the sport is really about doing your best. It's unfortunate when the media chooses to highlight or feed the rivalry narrative. What do they expect the athlete to say? This is not a trash talk kind of sport (none should be really).
@@isalmeida2006 doing one's best and winning at the "expense" of other competitors a.k.a. rivals. Otherwise, they would just perform and get scores and try to outscore their own selves every time. No competition, no winning, no medals, just trying to overcome one's own previous score. Then no need for meets at all or something, or maybe meets just for the judges to score them and nothing more...
Gosh I swear, among all sports GYMNASTICS FANS are the most simpy and beta of all sports. Always crying! Trust me, if gymnasts had rivalries especially during training, it makes for a better gymnast! end of discussion! But the gymnastics safe space delicate fans refuse to have any sense of competition. Its all COMPETE AGAINST YOURSELVES, we are all 1. get outta here. Jessica albeit gigglin and annoyin at times is 100% benign. Find a safe space. Fine you want to better yourself, competing only against you and navel gazing wonderful. But HEALTHY rivalry and competition is PERFECTLY FINE AS WELL.
