Thanks a lot from Germany! When i was learning to be a mechanik, the new 2020 JD came out over here ,but they had a lot of problems with water in motor oil ,because some gaskets did`nt work.
My man! You're a f-ing hero!!! I thought I screwed the wife's Grandpa's Deere up but turns out I accidentally hit that little lever by my left foot🤝 looked for 3 Days online to try and figure out what all the levers are but you're the only one with any info
A nickels worth of oil put on the linkages and cables, lever pivots exc.,fromtime to time might help and or cure, prevent some of those problems your having.
A 3020 gas powershift would be ok for a loader/odds and ends tractor, but for farming they are a two man tractor, one to get get gasoline and one to run it
dale krueger my experience exactly used to go get 5 gal of gas before even a small job because i knew I'd need it. Now that i diesel swapped it i have to think about it to remember when i filled it last. I know its now not original but its a family tractor and not going anywhere while im breathing so could care less about resale value
@@machineryd2765 im kinda the opposite, have a 4020 diesel with loader, times i wish had a old gas beater with a loader, cause sometimes i don't run it long enough to warm it up, we used to have a loader on.a 720 diesel with a pony motor, usually you spent more time trying to get it started than you used it
@@dalekrueger1175 very good point like when i feed in the winter hardly ever get tractor up to temp before im done. If i had a tractor at a remote cabin that only got ran once or twice a year I'd say lp would be the best because it doesn't go bad. Biggest reason i like the diesel is that everything else runs on diesel around here and i have a tank. Never got a gas tank and hated packing fuel in 5 gal cans. But in some case gas or lp would make the most sense
I'm looking at older tractors that I can use to push snow in the winter. Where I live I get a lot of it. A JD 3020 diesel the same year as this one is on my list from a friend that mostly uses it with forks to move hay bails around. He's also got a bucket. He's never used it for pushing snow though. You think it could handle pushing a foot + of snow at a time or would I need chains? Thanks for showing the tractor off, and for any advice you may have.
I've push a good amount of snow with mine and it has no fluid in tires. Problem is ive never pushed 12in of snow at once (yet ) here in Missouri we are getting quite a bit as we speak... but to answer your question if your friend had it and its a good machine for a fair deal then i think you'll be happy with it.. if he had a 4020 though id pick it over 3020 because 6 cylinder is quite a bit smoother and extra hp& weight
@@machineryd2765 Hey thanks for the info! I co-own a small farm as that's been in the family for over 80 years. The last 60 years we've been using a 1952 Massey-harris 44 Special to handle the snow plowing but as much snow as we get it's been overworked all these years. The old girl needs some major work done to it and you can never have enough working equipment around the farm. I'm not a ''brand loyal'' guy but my grandad and father were so we've stuck with Massey-Harris/Ferguson. I don't know much about the great ''green'' tractors but am looking to add them to the farm. As far as new stuff goes, if it has a computer on it I don't want it. I can repair any of the old iron myself for a much cheaper price so videos like yours giving a rundown of your old iron I'm not familiar with are very welcome to see on youtube. Yeah everyone's getting hit with snow this winter. Thanks again for the info and the video you got a sub here! Stay safe out there!
@BrodieBr0 you can't go wrong with the 20 series tractors they are simple reliable horses... but depending on how much you can budget I'd really look into a 30 or 40 series they are same simplicity and reliability but with nice cab 🥶 sizes compare like this 3020=4030 4020=4230 4320=4430
@@machineryd2765 Great info again, thanks! I found a 4020 that's about 700 miles from me I'm going to have a buddy look at. A CAT 977h crawler loader and a beastly 1969 JD 4520 with ez on loader also just appeared on my radar for a good price so I'm leaning toward those now. My budget is $15,000 and I'm going to take my time and get a good old machine. Thanks again!
@@BrodieBr0 all good options and any of them will have plenty for snow but what I'm thinking about is what will you use it for the rest of the time....If you do cattle like me then I'd look at > 4020,4230,4430,4240,4440 because they have 540&1000pto and are small enough for the rakes yet big enough for the baler👍 If i could afford a 4440 I'd have one. But if you do rowcrop I'd be more inclined to choose 4630,4640,4840 they are 1000pto only but not usually issue in row crop operation due to that usually cheaper than smaller sizes. They are cheap hp. Any of the above ive seen recently sell for 15,000 or less especially if you've got time to look and dont mind one that needs a few things. Bladed 8in of snow with 3020 today if it had been snow only would have been effortless but we had 1" of ice a few days before so snow on ice = slick 👎
I am a new Subscriber and I just found you're channel and this video, I have a John Deere 500 series Industrial loader tractor and I am just getting it running at this point so I am trying to figure out the controls which you have answered some of my questions but on mine, it has a forward-reverse shift on the left side of the column and on the right, I just have the 8 speed there. does this tractor actually still use a clutch? Cheers From Garry From Australia and thanks for making a great video
@ attitude adjuster welcome if it is a regular 500 this is what I've found. Looks like there were 2 transmissions and you should be able to tell them apart by seeing if you 2 or 4 reverse. Sorry I'm not much help but have little experience with the 500 www.tractordata.com/industrial-tractors/000/0/2/23-john-deere-500-transmission.html
I just picked up a 3020, everything seem to work pretty good, however my 7 to 8 shift takes a while, when 8 grabs it grabs pretty solid, but man, it takes a few seconds to grab. Seems like it takes a real long time. I'd like to figure that out.
@Jeff Leimer, the more I've run it the better it has been. Especially after getting the trans up to good operating temp it seems to grab right away. So it may be just fine.
Sorry for the long absense got busy with dad life the Power shift is one off those things it's hit or miss. With proper maintenance they can last many many years but when they do go they are more expensive to fix. If I were buying one I would test drive it for a good amount of time under changing loads and up to operating temperature. Check the transmission oil and see how it looks also
@@dalekrueger1175 your right i guess i was thinking 3010 and the 20 series they decided to get more capacity. Just never cared for the looks of those tanks sticking out of the hood. But bet the users liked the extra range 👍

I know your comment is very old and I'm sorry it's taking me so long to reply got busy with life the swap is actually pretty straightforward if you have a donor tractor the diesel engine will bolt directly in where the gas engine was the minor differences are the throttle linkage will have to be swapped over the gas tank I swapped for simplicity and you will need a diesel power shift flywheel as the power shift flywheels are different from the synchro and the gas is different from the diesel so there are four different flywheels for these tractors other than that it's really just bolting and unbolting I appreciate your support and sorry for the long response time
