    One I discoverd recently was a port of Mortal Kombat 4 on the Dreamcast, Eurocom started development on the game to make up for how bad Mortal Kombat Gold was, and apparantly the polygon count on the characters was even higher than the arcade version.

      Never heard of that one being in production! Very interesting indeed. I remember being sorely disappointed by Gold. My version was that original release I think rather than the fixed one. I mean, who wouldn't be disappointed when you'd played all the other great DC fighters!?

      This comment is so true. There’s a very warm vibe that each video has due to the conversational tone of each video. I have one recommendation, check out StrafeFox’s channel, the making of streets of rage 2, and Aladdin, as well as many other Sega classics, in addition to Super NES and early Playstation classics like Castlevania Symphony of the Night.

    • @Astfgl
      @Astfgl 2 роки тому +11

      Given that they managed to make RE2 work on the Nintendo 64 of all things, I have no doubt the Saturn would have been able to do the game justice. It would have made for a very interesting three-way comparison between the three major consoles as well, through one of the most high-profile games of the time. A crying shame that it was never finished.

    • @galaxyforever10
      @galaxyforever10 2 роки тому +4

      @@Astfgl Exactly. The N64 had quite a lot of limitations as well, particularly in the audio department. The Saturn has CD quality audio so compression wouldn't have been needed. I believe it's 100% true that the Sony money was what they aimed for as by the time RE2 came out in 1998, a year later the Dreamcast was out. So they definitely did not care about the what would then be a last-gen console.

    • @mortenera4423
      @mortenera4423 2 роки тому +4

    • @Edexote
      @Edexote 2 роки тому +2

      You're overestimating the Saturn's capabilities and underestimating the N64's. For the N64, considering only RE2, the only real limitation was the cartridge capacity and nothing more. The Saturn has many more limitations that would become apparent in RE2 and that most people don't realize. The lack of sound compression, low frame buffer size and separate main RAM pools would kill the port.

      It's too bad the 32X got the shaft so quickly because there were some big titles on their way as seen in the video. If those would have been released along with the Neptune, the 32X may have ended up being at least a mild success. We never got to see the full potential of the hardware, not by a long shot. It had 256k Ram and VRAM (significantly more then the SNES had) and it was very fast for the time(23 MHz). Biggest problem with the 32X though is that it should have came out 2 or 3 years before it did. As impressive as it was, Saturn and PS1 hit the market at the same time and were way more powerful.

    • @brazilmugenteam

      @@brazilmugenteam Agreed, an all-in-one console would have been ideal and I've often thought about that as well. Ideally, 32X should have been released in 93 (preferably) or 94, and Neptune should have been an all-in-one console released soon after. You could either buy the add-ons separately if you already had a Genesis, or just buy a Neptune. By the time the PS1 came out, they would have probably had a good selection of big name titles. Despite being far less powerful, having a head start and some great games that took advantage of the hardware may have allowed them to compete against the PS1 during it's initial 2 or 3 years on the market.

    There's been a few cancellations I was bummed about: Half Life and System Shock 2 on Dreamcast, Soul Reaver 2 on Dreamcast, Castlevania Resurrection. But the crushing one for me was Sonic X-treme. I bought a lot of magazines of the time detailing the works of the game and was excited for the first full 3D Sonic title, only for it to never come out at all. Of course later I found out that the development was a nightmare, still, it would of been great to have something for Sonic in full 3D outside a racer and a brief mini-world area of Sonic Jam.

    I'm not sure if either of the two games that I'm about to mention were actually in development or not as I only read about them.
    One was Phantasy Star for Sega CD being developed at the same time as PSIV was being worked on for Genesis, but this was a standalone Sega CD exclusive game and not just a port of the Genesis RPG. It was said to be eventually be shelved in favor of focusing on finishing Phantasy Star IV.
    The other was regarded as being called Phantasy Earth for Sega Saturn; in this case it was something the Diehard Gamefan was discussing in their rumors section, and since Gamefan was not always a reliable source of information (and that's an understatement) I couldn't really say with confidence if it was ever in planning stages.
    In both cases such games could have been flagship releases for their respective consoles and I would have purchased them in an instant.
    But the one that stands out the most may be for SNES as Super Kid Icarus was once mentioned using an upgraded Super Metroid game engine but it ultimately never came into fruition. Too Bad.

    Fan of the channel and some new info for me with this list but you missed by far the biggest one.
    Lunar 3 for Sega CD. Hinted in the Lunar 2 Eternal Blue manual and confirmed by Vic Ireland of Working Designs more than once. Then nothing for Lunar until the unnecessary and inferior PlayStation/Saturn Complete Remake versions several year later followed by even worse, even less needed Remakes of Remakes and the death of the Lunar franchise, Lunar Dragon Song.
    Lunar Silver Star and Lunar 2 Eternal Blue are to this day still my two favorite games of all time. It's a shame not many had Sega CD, so many missed out on the greatest JRPG series ever and Lunar fans deserved Lunar 3 and the story continuation from the end of Lunar 2 on one of the Sega Systems. Here's to hoping the Lunar fandom is successful in getting Lunar 3 made, pretty strong effort has been made the last year or so. So far the original composer of both Lunars, several of the main characters voice actors and a few former employees of Game Arts/Studio Alex/Working Designs are all on board, fingers crossed.

      Not much better than the Genesis... except for 50 times more processing power, 500 times more on screen colors, much more RAM, 4 dedicated PCM sound channels, etc. LOL. No, the 32X was A LOT more powerful. Judging it's capabilities based on some hasty early Genesis ported games, is really silly. The system just never got to shine. Games that start to even remotely push a console's capabilities don't come out until the second year of its life or so, and the 32X only had that one year, with most of the games released in that first year, badly rushed and generally half-assed. However, there were games that were beginning to show it's true potential. Look at the recently released Doom 32X Resurrection, which is a superb fix for the original, badly-rushed 32X port of Doom. It proves that the 32X does an excellent console version of Doom, comparable to a pretty high end PC experience. It just completely blows away anything that was even remotely possible on the Genesis, even with the SVP chip in the cart.

    • @mikef8846
      @mikef8846 2 роки тому +1

      @@Prizrak-hv6qk Doom is a very particular game with an engine that can run on may platforms. It is not even really polygonal. There were even SNES and GameBoy Advance versions of Doom. In Brazil, there was a release of Duke Nukem for Genesis, which is very similar to Doom. So, Doom on a Genesis is not out of the realm of possibility. And all the 32x specs come with a downside. They are only good on paper, not in the real world. Pitfall and Brutal use more colors, but the frame rate is cut in half. Sound might be better, but I would guess the PCM takes up a lot of cartridge space. Doom Resurrection has vastly superior musing to the original 32x version for sure, but the ROM size is also 1/3 larger, which I suspect is due to the PCM sound. Back in the day, cartridges cost a lot of money to make. Even if the 32x was capable of great 2D graphics (which I doubt) nobody was willing to pay for the large cartridge size. So, everything supposedly good about the 32x comes with catch, and while it looks good on paper, just doesn't work in the real world.

    • @Prizrak-hv6qk
      @Prizrak-hv6qk 2 роки тому +1

      @@mikef8846 What you're saying about Doom is pretty odd. Yes, it's been ported to everything since, but that doesn't mean that it wasn't a state of the art game/engine back in 1994. Yes, the SNES ran it with the help of the FX2 chip, but just barely (single digit fps) with ultra low res, super pixelated graphics, no floor and ceiling textures and other compromises. It was a technical miracle and a novelty, but was not a decent way to play Doom. The GBA is a 32-bit system itself, so I don't see your point there. Resurrection is a far better version, BTW. The Genesis version of Duke Nukem 3D is joke. It doesn't have much to do with the real Duke Nukem 3D game and the engine used is lot closer to Wolf 3D than it is to Doom. It doesn't even begin to approach Doom. Genesis can do a decent Wolf 3D, as demonstrated by a home-brew project, but Doom is on a whole other level. Once again, you bring up some half-baked, rushed Genesis ports by questionable developers, while ignoring stuff like Knuckles Chaotix and Tempo, which look 32-bit and run at 60 fps. The Resurrection ROM size went up from 24 to 32 Mbit, not just because of PCM sound, but because the original release was missing a third of the game and a lot of the assets. By the way, ROM prices were falling sharply in 1994. I agree that the 32X was a rushed a flawed design, missing a lot of hardware features that should've been there, but to say that it didn't add a lot of capability to the Genesis is plain wrong.

    Sega are bums. In 20 years the stuff they've had to pull from,that they've just die... It's sad. Sega are bums. They have the ip to be as big as Nintendo. Xbox has no IP over their 20 years in gaming...it's just such a sad state of affairs from both parties

    Who knows where Sega would be today if they didn't screw over their fan base by releasing crap like the Sega CD and 32X(back in the day my mom wasted $100s on that junk for me).The Saturn might have actually done well in America and the Dreamcast would have given the PS2, Xbox,and GameCube some real competition.

    Why did Sega of America change the name of the Megadrive, can you maybe shed some light on that please? I know the story behind the change in shape of the NES & SNES already. We had the same shape NES over here in the U.K. to thank God, but I still prefer the model we had of the SNES which was the same as the Japanese version. But you're Sega Lord X so it's the Megadrive/Genesis question that I'm interested in. Thanks mate.

    You forget to talk about INDIANA JONES GRATEST ADVENTURE for SEGA GENESIS. The game was complete but a fight between NINTENDO and LUCASARTS makes that the game was cancelled.

    A Sega CD version of Robocop Vs Terminator could of been something really special.
    Q sound, bigger sprites, larger, more varied levels.
    The Terminator was far better on Sega CD than cartridge and Robocop Vs Terminator, reused some graphics from that version.

    It's really sad in hindsight how many arcade games Sega didn't port over/expand. Maybe console and arcade rights are separate? Examples, Star Wars Trilogy and Lost World: Jurassic Park. The on rails one.

    NBA Hangtime IS an updated NBA Jam. Midway let the NBA Jam trademark expire and another company snapped it up before Midway had a chance to. Midway also made NBA Hangtime.

    It seems like literally every commenter is talking about Skies of Arcadia.
    Is there really not enough demand for this game for Sega to do a low effort port to PC? I mean really. How many more years to we have to scream at Sega for this?
