Wow Sean Morris of Motorex! Talk about a dude that could read the writing on the wall, and got out of motorex just in the nick of time!! Glad to see he is doing well!!
Two words... Corporate Overreach or Corporate Lobbying or PAC Money or Corrupt Fucks. The government itself isn't inherently bad most of the bad shit comes from money in politics/lobbying, they even said it themselves in the video. All these commenters trying to make it sound like the "libtards" did it (not you but others.)
John Moore Nobody said liberals did it, they just hate California for just being extremely liberal and use this as another excuse to hate California. Plus, you’re also automatically assuming everyone hating on California is hick, which is even farther from the truth.
@@johnmoore1495 Lobbying would be less of a problem if we didn't allow the Government to have as much power as we do. That's the root problem, the lobbying is a symptom of it.
The reason is protectionism. The american car makers lobbied to have this rule so that foreign cars don´t mess with their profit margins. They don´t want american buyers buying foreign shit. It has fuck all to do with safety and emissions.
I actually emailed motorex when i was in japan back in 01, inquiring about importing my gts-t back to the us and how much it would cost. Pretty sure it was sean who replied with "dont. Unless its a gtr its not worth it. Compliance will cost you 30k."
Or he riced an R32 to make it look like an R34? Or, more probable, he just illegally registered it, happens allot, Florida is great for that abuse. Or its from motorex, its what fast and furious used, they illegally imported R34's that were later legalized, I think there is 10-20 legal R34's in the USA because of them, or its from Canada. Or its a show car (not legal on the road). I'm not calling you a liar, but that sounds exceptionally improbable, sounds like he was lying. 'He changed some lights and other stuff and BAM legal car'. I'd like to hear more if you know more.
C R U Media R34s are illegal due to safety and emissions equipment... You can get past it and drive it around semi legallly, but if federal govt just happened to be in a pissy mood that day and got word of it your friends car is toast
In Australia you could pick a 32 GTR up for about 15K a few years ago. BUT NOW! Because you guys can import them you won’t find one here for less then 30k. Thanks, Thanks a lot.
$18,500. It needed a repaint and a replacement Wing. Wing was 350, Full Repaint 3k, $750 for 4 Michelle Pilot A/S 3 Plus's. So $22,600 for a pretty much stock and clean example with 100k miles. Needs a new sound system though. The $18,500 includes all 100k mile servicing so it has a new timing belt, fluids etc. AC Still blows cold on old R12 but I have the R134a fitting too. All told when I have it exactly the way I want it I'll probably have close to 30k into it. I obviously could have stayed cheap but I want it to be right.
Do research on the importer you are buying from and always go and inspect in person. Japan is a relatively small island with salt water and snow. Rust is a serious issue. My friend got an gtr sight unseen and described the day it showed up at his door as a "waking nightmare"!
sean galvin I can not even imagine what shady means of purchasing he went though to purchase a car that did not have rust disclosed in the purchase process.
WaifuForLaifu it was bad. He trusted what is basically just a used car dealership with 25k dollars. There were tons of red flags and I tried to convince him that a 500 dollar flight is better than a 25k mistake, but he didn't take my advice.
I hate it when normies say the only reason why the R34 GTR is illegal is because it can outrun a cop car. Like ok, lets not forget about cars these days making crazy horsepower numbers that can probably leave a cop at .01 seconds.
Doesn’t make 0 sense, at the time the Skyline was being built, you could perfectly buy a Lamborghini Diablo completely legal to drive in the US, and if they tell you that is because the Diablo is not faster than a Skyline, then you are talking with the kind of “special” person that probably believes that Supras make 1500 whp from factory.
Alexis Cruz dude everytime in 11th grade I went to school. I was talking about skylines and some people said their illegal cause they can outrun cop cars.
I would honestly love to get my hands on an R34 some day and around my area R32s pop up for sale from time to time but if Im honest with myself, the chances of getting an R34 when they become legal will be very hard so Im most likely going the 370Z Nismo route and maaaaybe consider a used R35 if the price isn’t too crazy in few years. I’ll always love the R34 but Ill just have to stick to owning them in videogames for now 😉
Crazy to think that the Donut squad was like 500yds from my house! I drive past Top Rank a couple times a week on the back way home from getting dinner and I always stop and drool at what I can see from the street. Their employees drive some pretty sick lesser-known JDM cars too. Super cool.
You should only buy a Skyline GT-R if it's your dream car to own. Other wise, R32 and R33 aren't worth paying $30k to import them over. Realistically, I would much rather buy a brand new Evolution or Impreza STi just cause they are newer, faster, technologically advance, and holds better resale value. R34 is a different story as they are more limited than the other models. So it will just depend on your liking and money.
good to hear. i wanted a JDM dream car but ended up getting a 2016 370z. i'm from CA so i didn't think it'd be worth getting an imported car then spend $10k on top to get it to pass emissions.
On the other hand, you can still get a new STi and a relatively new EVO today. But you can't get a new Skyline GTR, RX-7, Supra (ok that german one doesn't count) etc.
@@stevienguyen2047 with car probably 60-70k for a 25yr old car which is a good down payment on r35, I'm starting to realize I probably will never get a r33 I live in Cali and laws are fucked here, best beaches and city's to drive cars like this in, and u can't even have then. u got 3 strike law, gun laws, on top of 25yr wait for a car they make it really impossible to get an import. we should really put pressure right now during the election to get it changed in America lol
Stevie Nguyen honestly the R34s are probably going to end up costing six figures when it hits 2024. I could see them going for $100-120k easy because everyone and their mother wants one. The R32s I see cost between 20-35k now and the listings for R33s I see are around 50k for the GTR ones. So take that and add another 10k for California being shitty
I got an 89 Skyline R32 about a couple months ago but it’s been having idling issues and not many people know about the car too much here in Michigan and parts are hard to find so I’m considering selling it which sucks
Behnzo bro fix it yourself. Were you really expecting a 30 year old car to never break?? People who don’t work on their own cars should never import these. I have 2 and every time something breaks, I get on forums, UA-cam, google, and use some common sense. Fixes the problem every single time
At my high school we had an r33 show up to showcase and that shop got shutdown shortly after due to "illegal" ways they got it into compliance. Go California!!! Edit: IT WAS MOTOREX!!!
Driving my gtr or gtir people come up to me all the time. What i hear a lot is "i want an r34 gtr." Not gonna happen for most. He nailed it in the video. If you think you are getting an r34 for under 80k, its not gonna happen. Maybe find a pile of junk for under 100k. By the time the r34 is legal to import its gonna be well over 100k. Some already are.

"that's what it is, and there's no way to change it." There IS a way, an infallible way.....vote. These laws are made and controlled by elected officials.
This law was put into place because Mercedes lobbied 10s of millions of dollars into the pockets of everyone in our government. Unless you can outbid them, this law would never get changed. That’s America, only the rich and wealthy have political power
25 years shouldn’t matter tbh as long as the car passes all the inspections then who cares. Cause as a Silvia lover, if I wanted a s15 I gotta wait till 2024 and same goes for the r34 lmao
You can get an R32 GTS for like 8 grand now man. They aren't unattainable. If you're dead set on a GTR, thats when things get pricy. Even then it's only like 25k-30k. Pretty reasonable for a dream car. Not like 130,000 for a Lamborghini or something. Hell, my dream car is an R33 GTR, but I'm going to settle for a GTS model to save an extra like 25 thousand dollars.

I would love to buy an R34 when it's legal but aside from the high costs, I'd be too paranoid to let it sit in a parking lot or even on the street.
Little did you know those high prices were gonna go higher.
Ugh I hated that happened 😒
Why?
"because"
Literally "because"
That Chaser Tourer V Mk II, that’s quite a nice import you don’t see often.
iLupi shhhhhhh chillll I hope it will be low key as r34 and that jazz becomes legal. Because while people are buying those over priced shi I’ll be buying my affordable 1jz 4 door dream 🔥

Sean is the perfect person for these questions. He is the JDM to USA importation guru. Glad to be part of this growing industry!
Thank you.

Two words... Government Overreach
John Moore
Nobody said liberals did it, they just hate California for just being extremely liberal and use this as another excuse to hate California. Plus, you’re also automatically assuming everyone hating on California is hick, which is even farther from the truth.
@@johnmoore1495 Lobbying would be less of a problem if we didn't allow the Government to have as much power as we do. That's the root problem, the lobbying is a symptom of it.
Yep and corporate lobby, they know if its not for the banning, car guy would choose jdm
The reason is protectionism. The american car makers lobbied to have this rule so that foreign cars don´t mess with their profit margins. They don´t want american buyers buying foreign shit. It has fuck all to do with safety and emissions.
Who’s old enough to remember MOTOREX?

I actually emailed motorex when i was in japan back in 01, inquiring about importing my gts-t back to the us and how much it would cost. Pretty sure it was sean who replied with "dont. Unless its a gtr its not worth it. Compliance will cost you 30k."
Cor Gi MotoRex did a few GTS cars.
Cor Gi the cost of compliance was the same for every Skyline.

Sorry buddy it's an r32
R32 mate
This dude in Vegas got his R34 legal by changing the lights and other stuff and we were blown away. Of course we were (friends) freaking tf out
Or he riced an R32 to make it look like an R34? Or, more probable, he just illegally registered it, happens allot, Florida is great for that abuse. Or its from motorex, its what fast and furious used, they illegally imported R34's that were later legalized, I think there is 10-20 legal R34's in the USA because of them, or its from Canada. Or its a show car (not legal on the road). I'm not calling you a liar, but that sounds exceptionally improbable, sounds like he was lying. 'He changed some lights and other stuff and BAM legal car'. because the r33 did become 25 year old this year and now are legal to import

I imported a 1992 Nissan Skyline GTR last month. It was easy. Its a great car.
Loanarn Enjoy it! They are great cars when they are running . Working on the RB26 is not so fun lol
Ian just ls swap it
How much?
Loanarn in USD or CAD ? And in which country/state ?
Damn that sucks. I would only ever purchase through auctions/dealerships though a reputable exporter.
Auction sheet is a must.
What dealer did he go with?

Oops. Edited. Quebec.... sigh. no comment.
fabulousprofound yea....it sucks....
I hate it when normies say the only reason why the R34 GTR is illegal is because it can outrun a cop car. Like ok, lets not forget about cars these days making crazy horsepower numbers that can probably leave a cop at .01 seconds.
Lancer Mafia who says that?
Who tf says that?
Doesn’t make 0 sense, at the time the Skyline was being built, you could perfectly buy a Lamborghini Diablo completely legal to drive in the US, and if they tell you that is because the Diablo is not faster than a Skyline, then you are talking with the kind of “special” person that probably believes that Supras make 1500 whp from factory.
no car can outrun radios

But what if the r32 is your dream car
good to hear. i wanted a JDM dream car but ended up getting a 2016 370z. i'm from CA so i didn't think it'd be worth getting an imported car then spend $10k on top to get it to pass emissions.
yeah but everybody has these newer cars. that’s the cool part about getting a r32 or rx7 imported you rarely see them compared to new jdm cars.
@@kennypowers1206 whenever I see R32's in CA I spot them right off the bat
On the other hand, you can still get a new STi and a relatively new EVO today. But you can't get a new Skyline GTR, RX-7, Supra (ok that german one doesn't count) etc.
10000 for an emission test, GTFO lmaoooo
Jared in California yeah it's $ 10,000
So how much are we looking at for the total cost car included?
Well the state is in debt and trying to gain more revenue, what do you expect? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

He nailed it in the video. If you think you are getting an r34 for under 80k, its not gonna happen. Maybe find a pile of junk for under 100k. By the time the r34 is legal to import its gonna be well over 100k. Some already are.
