  • The speaker did not power up, so it was taken apart and inspected. Nothing wrong was found, but the speaker started working for some reason. Perhaps, this is more like a teardown.

I really dislike situations like that with no confirmed fault, it always leaves you wondering if/when it will fail again.

I've experienced this before.... perhaps the board was bumped off-center and something was shorting to ground. Re-positioning the board made things work again. Also, maybe there's a small crack in the solder somewhere. Who is to say now that it works?

80 Volts could give you a tinkle! I'm a bit drunk now. I love your repairs - very considered and methodical.

I have many of these speakers and 11 of them had the same problem and when I take it to repair they say did not find anything and probably was a faulty connection ,not too long I had another one with the same problem I disassemble it completely and put back together again and started working again, seeing this video with the same sympton definetely yamaha had a quality problem with these series, the worst thing is for my taste is these speaker are much better than the DZR and they don't make it anymore.

Hi what is your use case for these dsr115s? What do you think was causing the problems

I think it might be humidity in the contacts, but now few days ago I had to send another dsr112 to repair, so I'm waiting to see what happened this time, but definetely yamaha made something wrong with these models and no wonder they got discontinued so quick

Only one way forward for this speaker and thats to go over the PCB's with a fine tooth comb and look for cracked/broken traces, components, connectors. Something has had a nudge and is just waiting to go wrong again. The wiggle/prod test wouldn't go amiss either.
Saying that, if it's for personal/home use then maybe just enjoy it!......repair can be for another day. Max. peak SPL is 136dB....nice!.....enjoy!......:-)

Can't fix it if it ain't broke.
But.. did you inspect the leads on all the power devices? Sometimes they break right where they enter the plastic case due to flexing, either from rough handling or many hours of bass vibration and it's difficult to see. You might need a magnifier.
The old short, sharp, shock ( bang it against the bench ) method may reveal these.
    I enjoy your videos.

I think I did. I didn't see any broken leads. Might have missed of course.

I would suspect an intermittent connector and clean all of the connector contacts.

Thank so much. I was able to fix my Speaker through this method but I noticed the led front light was the cause. I just disconnect. That's all

    • @feedback-loop

How do you know that the light was the cause? Seems very unlikely.

@@gianniskousidis4614 i think so! i only took some apart and realised i didnt have time to take it all completely apart and i turned it on and its all working again! i am not sure if it something to do with a safety feature that needs to be reset. perhaps a capacitor is still providing power to a chip somehow that is enabling protection mode to be on. once disconnected perhaps it breaks that connection enough to reset it. i have no idea what it could be

there is a problem.. :( after using it for a certain time and volume it will randomly shut off. where the other dxr will be fine and sounding great, this one just shuts down and wont come back on until it is ready

Do a close up inspection on board if there no obvious signs of damage most likely it is connectors .
