@LuxMtb You nailed it on the head with the price difference. If you can part with $300, get the full one. If $180 is more suited to you, get the 960. There are times I wish I had the 1080p, or 720p60fps, but the 960 is usually fine.
@OneEagerBeaver Thanks. The 960 can record in up to 960p, which is why they called it the 960 in the first place. This video was shot at 720p, which on the GoPro 960 is only available at 30fps. The 960 does have a 480p60fps mode, though.
@kriskk007 The 480p60fps and 720p30fps modes default to widescreen, since they are widescreen resolutions, and the camera's lens provides the 170 degree viewing angle. the 960p mode is 4:3 aspect ratio, but still has the 170 degree horizontal viewing angle.
@OneEagerBeaver The GoPro 960 comes with a protective case that has two backs. One back is fully waterproof, and apparently is good for 180 feet. The other back is not waterproof (giant openings on the back), and sound quality is much better with this open back. Of course, if you're around water (or even skiing), I'd recommend the waterproof back. But they both come with it, so you're covered.
@Frankvideowall As we go into #18, we bear to the right into the woods, but if you stay left, there's a jumps section. It's not dirt jumping strictly, but it's the closest you can get to Whistler's A-line at K-ton.
@NWD10FAN It's definitely the best bang for the buck. I can see how the contour could be easier to mount, but the gopro video quality is definitely good. and you know it's good when you see it on mythbusters, deadliest catch, etc.
@drunksmokingjurkk this was with the open backplate. i wouldn't be too worried about dust, the camera itself appears to be relatively dust-tight for most purposes. i've taken it skiing recently and definitely recommend the waterproof backplate for that.
@stefanjeep there are 3 resolution modes. R3 is 1280x960@30fps (960p), R2 is 1280x720@30fps (720p), R1 is 848x480@60fps. This video was shot in R2. One of my other videos was shot in R1 as a 60fps test, but it turns out that UA-cam downsamples to 30fps if you upload something faster.
@cmart181 yeah I found that with the chest mount as well, the camera seems to struggle to record all the frames when shaken violently, probably due to . This was shot with an adhesive mount directly on my full-face helmet, and I think the helmet's mass helped keep vibrations under control.
@thenewgeogzm yeah i'm not too sure what to do about the camera height. I'm 6'2". I bought an angle mount for side-helmet and i've used it for skiing and the height is better, but you do notice the weight of it cranking your head sideways. I also have a chest mount and i'll probably use that for mtb this summer provided it doesn't keep getting too muddy.
@tristeng5 while many would discredit this theory, it's actually true. the GoPro records video at a higher bitrate at 720p than what youtube encodes in 720p. the extra bitrate of youtube's 1080p encoding won't make it look like blu-ray, but it will make it look a little better. i'll have to try that with one of my videos as an experiment
@McDomo46 it's a Giant Reign X frame, which is full suspension. it's not a true downhill bike, more of an all-mountain bike. Best bang for the buck AM bike in my opinion.
@MegaMotocrosskid I assume you meant internal memory, and nope. but you can use any old SD card, when I first got it I used a 128 MB card I had kicking around. Fills fast though, my 8GB is usually fine and they're ultra cheap now.
@philly624 I did zero editing to this particular video, so I uploaded the exact file that came off the gopro, no issues. it really doesn't matter what kind of computer you have. if you edit the video or process it in any way, you have to make sure your export settings are set to 720p in whatever software you're using.
@hitthedeckstudios Probably not. But it depends on the rider. I've seen people take hardtail x/c bikes down trails like these. Can you go as fast? Maybe. If you do, will your wheels stay true by the end of the day? Probably not. Having the appropriate tools for the job is important as always.
@NRButterz18 Your videos uploaded just fine. Your 960p video uploaded as 720p... this is one of the main reasons why I always record in 720p rather than 960p... widescreen is the way to go. Also, the fullscreen button is on the bottom left corner of the video player.
@Phoenixshild Honestly, that's probably more up to your superior in the military. They may not want you capturing/publishing footage. But yes, you can probably devise a mounting system.
@thatspsychotic Oh ok. I'm presuming the 960p mode is also at 30fps. I go sailing, so would fixing the HD Hero 960 to the bow of the boat be sufficient or would I need to buy a waterproof lens or anything else to prevent water interfering with the video. I heard anything to do with water, you need another lens or something. I don't suppose you know?
@thatspsychotic Right, does the 960 come with the small rubber part which reduces the sound of rattling or do you not need that if you are only going to be using the flat and curved adhesive mounts?
LIKE! I want to buy the ContourHD but I've seen two ugly videos made with the Contour. Now I've seen this video...I think I'll buy the GoPro. It's cheaper too.
Now that GoPro reduced the price of the original Hero HD to make room for the Hero HD2, probably not. Get the original HD instead for $50 more, or pony up for the HD2... it looks awesome.
@thatspsychotic Wow! I don't have anywhere around me to rent a bike, but I have a huge trail on the escarpment where I live it's not so much downhill but still is I guess? Would a bike with dual suspension be good for this because I don't think I will be hitting jumps very often but will occasionally. And are giant bikes any good because they seem cheaper but still good to me, and what kind of bike do you have? Thanks!
when biking you might want to film in 1280x960 and cut out the 16:9 ratio (1280x720) later in an editing software. that way you can choose the visible area. in my opinion your angle of view is a little deep.
hmm.. Can I ask what program are u using. At the moment I'm using Vegas pro 10, but I get some problems when I render it. By that I mean a sligthly lag, and it's really enoing cause I want the video to be more smooth. And if u use Vegas pro, what format are u redering your video to. Sry for my English.
@thatspsychotic it looks better now that its uploaded. but when i watch it on youtube it lagy and choppy. its sound test on my profile. i dont know how to do a video repley sorry.
@thatspsychotic were you using the waterproof cover on this video? i usually use my hero in dusty places so i really dont want to get dust in but i want to record the sound.
@Frankvideowall just rent one of the bikes they have there, it's only $55. Anything is do-able, but I wouldn't recommend a hardtail, it wouldn't be very much fun.
you know you can make this a 1080p video using your 960 camera just open video with movie maker live or some sort and render/save movie file ah full HD 1080p and believe it or not it will be a bit more clear once uploaded to youtube
Could anyone help, im thinking of buying GoPro HD Hero 960, or should i buy GoPro HD Hero Naked ? i am going to use it on vacations and when im on my longboard. I would be thankfull for comments. and Sorry for my bad English
I don't know wich cam i should take... which is better for freeride and downhill the hd hero or the 960p could anyone give me an advice ? the price is also very different... :)
@Jon95McC downhilling? $400? good luck, plan on at least $1000 for a used one. rent a bike on the mountain first, and if you really like downhilling, $1000 won't seem so bad. they retain some value, too, as long as you maintain it and don't beat the snot out of it. for trail riding AND downhilling, you're looking at an AM machine, which usually runs ~$1500 and up. check pinkbike buy/sell.
@thatspsychotic i was going to do the same thing but i cannot afford one of these im only 14 i guess all have to ask my parents tobuy me this on christmas!
hmm.. Can I ask what program are u using. At the moment I'm using Vegas pro 10, but I get some problems when I render it. I want this camera lol.
Watching this video has pushed me over the edge and I'm getting it. The quality is amazing!
Beautiful riding guys! ooh I want summer.. Now! I want to ride!
Awesowe!! Its just like Starwars in the woods!!
@LuxMtb You nailed it on the head with the price difference. If you can part with $300, get the full one. If $180 is more suited to you, get the 960. There are times I wish I had the 1080p, or 720p60fps, but the 960 is usually fine.
absolutely sick quality in 720p nice vid man, helps me to conclude on whether or not i should by a gopro hero hd :)
SICK! yep, that's really nice. I've just bought one and I hope it will be as freaking good as yours!
@OneEagerBeaver Thanks. The 960 can record in up to 960p, which is why they called it the 960 in the first place. This video was shot at 720p, which on the GoPro 960 is only available at 30fps. The 960 does have a 480p60fps mode, though.

@OneEagerBeaver It's a wide angle lens with 170 degrees of horizontal coverage. This produces a fisheye effect. There is no extra lens to buy.
@Frankvideowall As we go into #18, we bear to the right into the woods, but if you stay left, there's a jumps section. It's not dirt jumping strictly, but it's the closest you can get to Whistler's A-line at K-ton.

quality looks great in hd
@MegaMotocrosskid I assume you meant internal memory, and nope. but you can use any old SD card, when I first got it I used a 128 MB card I had kicking around. Fills fast though, my 8GB is usually fine and they're ultra cheap now.

okay thanks a lot, good to know
Wow! It's amazing! too fast to run...
@thatspsychotic I thought that the GoPro HD Hero 960 could only record video in 480p? Also is this 30 or 60 fps? Great video by the way.

Yes. However, this video was shot with the open backplate for better audio.

@thatspsychotic Thanks for the advice :))
@cmart181 Make sure you have at least a Class 4 SD card. Also, solid mounting is important to steady video.
@mattstoddart999 2008 Reign X2, but many upgrades, including single chainring setup, Lyrik Solo Air fork, Juicy 7 brakes, to name a few.
Thanks great help :)
@thatspsychotic awesome let me know how it goes!
@kriskk007 As stated in the video description, this is unedited video straight from the camera. No editing programs were used.
@thatspsychotic Right, does the 960 come with the small rubber part which reduces the sound of rattling or do you not need that if you are only going to be using the flat and curved adhesive mounts?
is the gopro 960 worth buying? great vid btw :)
LIKE! I want to buy the ContourHD but I've seen two ugly videos made with the Contour. Now I've seen this video...I think I'll buy the GoPro. It's cheaper too.

@thatspsychotic allright thks but is it do-able with a hardtail bike( sepecialized p.2)
@thatspsychotic Also I heard that the 960 has a fisheye effect. Is this true and if so, do i need to buy a wide lens?
@hockeyowns1000 This was shot in R2, 720p30fps on the 960.
@ULTpaintballr21 Its and standard definition.
when biking you might want to film in 1280x960 and cut out the 16:9 ratio (1280x720) later in an editing software. that way you can choose the visible area. in my opinion your angle of view is a little deep.
@thatspsychotic What did you to to get it widescreen? is it 170 degrees ?
hmm.. Can I ask what program are u using. At the moment I'm using Vegas pro 10, but I get some problems when I render it. its sound test on my profile. i dont know how to do a video repley sorry.
@thatspsychotic ok, thank. witch SD card do you use, to get the good quality?
@MyndPhreakFilmz
What is NVG, would it be compatibel to a german helm, which cam do you use?
@thatspsychotic were you using the waterproof cover on this video? i usually use my hero in dusty places so i really dont want to get dust in but i want to record the sound.
is there some dirt jumps line
@ULTpaintballr21 when its on youtube it will look like this!
@ULTpaintballr21 I take it you figured it out, because your most recent upload is definitely available in 720p.
guys how were you able to load up the video on youtube?
What's a good brand bike for trail riding and downhilling like this? I'm a beginner so something very very affordable would be nice...like under 400
Does the gopro 960 only shoot in 4:3 or is it both 4:3 and 16:9 and also what fps are you shooting at in this video.
what kind of computer do you have? and how did you upload this to your computer cause mine wont upload hd footy
@YardBmx This video was shot with the adhesive mount on my helmet. Check out my video response for some clips of chest-mount.
what programme are you editing in ?
does this gorpo hd hero 960 have any external memory, if so how much as i don't have a memory card yet?
@Phoenixshild
On UA-cam you find many military footage. Do you know any website specialy for mounting system on for military system.
how did you upload this in 720p? please respond
can you use imovie with go pros?
@Frankvideowall just rent one of the bikes they have there, it's only $55. Anything is do-able, but I wouldn't recommend a hardtail, it wouldn't be very much fun.
what are the resolution settings at?
which reign is it
i have the same problem as cmart181. I have the 4 sd card and i held my camera for a video test and the quality was awful. any ideas?
You guys are fucking mental. I remember when I used to ride like this. It was fun stuff. Sadly I'm too out of shape to do it anymore.
what video editor?
I want to join the military. Can I fixed the camera on a german soldier helmet or on a sights of G 36. Hope for a honest answer.
you know you can make this a 1080p video using your 960 camera just open video with movie maker live or some sort and render/save movie file ah full HD 1080p and believe it or not it will be a bit more clear once uploaded to youtube

I don't know wich cam i should take... which is better for freeride and downhill the hd hero or the 960p could anyone give me an advice ? the price is also very different...
:)
@kriskk007 As long as it's class 4 or better, it makes no difference whatsoever.
amazing thats really cool but as a joke i just feel like saying it chuck Norris could do that on a Unicycle hahahaha
tighten up your helmet that way you will get a less shaky picture ;)
dizzy dizzy :(
@ULTpaintballr21 Upload it to youtube, I'll check it on your page.
@Jon95McC hahahahhahahahaha
