The Live Action really did Genzo dirty by changing what the village knew imho. In the LA he's just a village representative and doesn't have a lot to do with anything, but in the original story he literally represents the resolve of the entire village to adopt Nami and Nojiko after Belle-mere's death. All of them secretly care about her and Gen is the one prominently showing it.

@@ROFLWAFFLELAWL4 I wasn't. I've never watched the anime, I first heard about "the walk" when people started comparing it to the live action and was wondering for a while what on earth people were talking about.
What's really beautiful of this version is that Luffy lets Nami absolutely free; since he set foot on the island, he didn't do a thing, he refused to leave because he knew Nami needed him, but since she refused to admit it. he took a nap and went for a walk. He didn't care about Nami's past because he didn't need, he cared about Nami's present and future and that's why the only thing he did not permit Nami to do was to hurt herself to the point of no return, that's why he stopped her, but even then he didn't force her to do anything, he just waited by her side. Only when Nami had finally, for the first time in years, asked for help, he took action: gave her his treasure, told her he will help her and went for the fight against Arlong without a second of esitation. He doesn't hate Arlong for what he did to Cocoyashi nor to Bellemere; he wants to beat him because he made Nami suffer and cry. This episode is truly powerful. This is where che Straw Hat crew truly begins.

I like how the overall take on the Arlong arc so far seems to be "JUSTICE FOR MOMOO", lol. 😂 But seriously, the build up to the crew's encounter with Arlong is easily one of the best moments of the entire series. Even the original manga version of the scene never fails to give me chills whenever I revisit it.... that's just how damn good Oda is at his craft, even at this early stage in the story. 😉
Really love the music when the four are marching towards Arlong Park. Also love the way Luffy puts his hat on Nami's head. The trust that Luffy has in Nami with his prized hat.
Luffy walking past Arlong's men is not only epic but also shows how Luffy doesnt really care about them being fishmen or not wich is a really present theme in the arc He just takes them as some dudes standing there, he doesnt think bad of them because they look like fish
Nami's breakdown is one of the most iconic moments of the series! Arlong Park is where I realized just how great One Piece can be, and this episode is what cemented it for me. Now I'm 19 years deep!
19 years for me too. This story has a very special place in my heart. In my top 5 most precious things in my life. Up there with family, friends, career and my dogs. 😌
In all fairness though live action Luffy kinda ALSO didn’t care about the truth about Nami. Like, he found out that Nami and Nojiko’s mom was killed by Arlong, but he never actually learned Nami’s side of the story. That was entirely exposited by Nami to Nojiko in the live action, so they kinda did keep that aspect of Luffy to a degree. He still supported Nami without knowing or caring why she did what she did.
It's still one of those details that i liked the least (but can understand) in the LA adaptation . Right after being told the backstory about Bellemere , Luffy was actually shocked and reacted and commented to it . Again i maybe understand why they did those subtle changes to Luffy during the LA... they clearly wanted him to immediately appears heroic and not like a jerk or psycho . So gone , in part , is the guy that just does not care how others perceive him ... here is more obviously chivalreous and thoughful Luffy . it is just a nitpick , the LA still did a great job
agreed! This Luffy works for anime, but a real person wouldn't just purposely ignore a friend's past especially after she seemingly betrayed you. Realistically you'd wanna know what's going on and what made her choose to leave the crew like that. And like you said, the essence of Luffy is still there in the sense Luffy still doesn't care about her past despite hearing about it, all that matters is the present Nami.
@@sakurachan288 The "Works for anime, but a real person..." doesn't feel right here. I think a luffy who doesn't hear anything would've worked just fine. There are plenty of fictional characters in movies who are weirder (some times not even human) than luffy and we like them all the same.
This whole moment is such a special part of One Piece and what is so well written to me. The village knows and is going to fight for Nami, Johnny and Yosaku stopping them,Luffy and the guys doing the walk and Nami finally asking for help, every single part of the story and every single character is used in such a good way. But the fact that you understood how powerful episode 37 was tells us that you won't have that problem.
Agreed on the sudden response. All the crew needed was a "help me" from their navigator and the crew was ready to go kick some *ss. Walk to Arlong Park is still one of the most iconic events in OP, especially this early in the series.
I agree so much with what Carson says here about characters mattering, and how backstory and exposition can be overused. And that Luffy embodies what really matters, not needing the backstory to care. That's exactly how I feel about him too, and part of what makes him such a great character, IMO. (Although Zoro also missed a lot of the backstory because he fell asleep, just thought I'd mention it.) And yeah, just like Lindsey I was so moved by Gen-san hugging Nami (and then the whole village going to fight and die). Hah, I've also always wondered if there was a night sometime between Baratie and Arlong. Maybe when they were on their way from Baratie a night passed? Otherwise that was a REALLY long day, lol. Poor Momoo. Don't worry, heäll be all right, he just got in with a bad crowd! It's interesting what you say about power and control. I hadn't thought to compare series and it's been about a decade since I read Naruto, but yeah, that is a rather common trope, isn't it?
I think when it comes to Arlong, is he has anger-issues. When the guy gets blindingly mad, he's more likely to destroy everything in his path. They mention it when Usopp got a hit on him and his crew had to hold him back from destroying the village.
Luffy doesn't know anything outside of the fact that Arlong made his friend cry. And she asked him for help. That's what it means to be there for somebody unconditionally.
since momoo is a sea monster, maybe luffy thought it was harmful just like the sea monster in his village who ate shanks' arm. maybe he's projecting lowkey 😂

Right. Ya ofc the battle in one piece is a must cause it’s a shonen. 34:08 If a mosquito bites you, will you spare it because it's just a creature and not evil? If a spider crawls around on your pillow, will you spare it? What if a wolf or a bear goes in to take a chunk out of you, or a shark, will you spare them? Same thing here, I think.
just wait until you get further in the story and see arlong's history. You'll know when you get there, and think back to how he acts here. Its a really incredible bit of story telling
One thing about One Piece is the infamous “walks”. This is the first walk you’re witnessing. The Walk to Arlong Park is one of the first OP things. Look forward for more. 👀
Great reaction! One thing you may not have realized about Momoo, the adorable sea cow. Do you remember the kid that Nojiko started looking after, whose village was destroyed, and who was seeking vengeance on Arlong? Well, Momoo's actually the one who destroyed his village, they don't name him, but they mention that it was a giant sea monster that was a pet of the fishmen that did it, and Momoo's the only one who fits the bill. I know Luffy and sanji have him cowed, but he's definitely not an innocent creature.
Hey if hou think about it, if you were that level of strenght it would be difficult to not destroy everything when going all out lol Its like mike tyson trying to go all out but also not knock you out at the same time
21:31 ohhh so there was actual basis on the hachi of the live action. The actor said he was hachi and it was this guy in the anime with lines on his face. Credits scene also included "hachi" oncthe cast
The shounen formula means Luffy always has to fight the Big Bad at the end. So there have to be a lot of twists and turns to set everything up for that moment. Also, Luffy doesn't have the patience to wait for that, so he's got to be taken out every single time...
The Nami "Help Me" scene is much better in the anime than the live action and this was the point that would solidify many who watched it as a new fan. The walk to Arlong park is also iconic.
@@ComikelZero Anime fans tend to like minors, don't they? =P Anyway it's more a genre thing. Unintentionally derpy looks are no less errant than a miscolored cell.

the perfect other thing is that the whole village knew what Nami was doing till the start. they pretented to hate her cause Nojiko made the whole people in the secret. That's how it's powerful compared to the live action
The big different about luffy in live action and manga/anime is his personality... In live action luffy talk too much about his achievement of beating his enemy but in anime he never talk about that, he even dont care of story
The One Piece planet is 2.7 times larger than earth. There is one large content that runs around it like a ring and then the Grand Line makes a ring also. The cross in an 'X' shape creating the 4 blues. And there are a lot of islands. If they are traveling and you don't see the day change, it doesn't mean the trip took a day. The only arc that for sure happens in one day timespan is Dresrosa.
For the Live Action, I think it's fine that it changed stuff (for better and worse) because it was good enough to draw new people in to the anime/manga and they'll get to see the best iterations of the story that way. It's a pay-off for deciding to take the journey that the Live Action starts you on. X3
Most people will tell new watchers/readers to get at least until this point of the story to decide if you like it. Namis scene and the walk are just so iconic and I always tear up a bit.
The thing is, Straw Hats aren't heroes and per say good people. They only are such if they like you. So don't expect them to be nice to people and creatures just because.
The Momoo cameo later on is gonna hit different And yeah the trope of Luffy being indisposed somehow while everyone else finishes their battles happens pretty often. It's the downside of the big bad always having to go down last
The reason why they're trying to stop Arlong from fighting isn't because he has some immensely powerful AOE, it's because, as a shark, he's prone to go into a frenzy. They're concerned that, if Arlong fights and goes berserk, he won't care about collateral damage and will just destroy everything with his, admittedly, immense strength. They're not concerned he'll destroy the place in 5 seconds, they're afraid he'll destroy the place in 5 minutes.
In the Manga/Anime Luffy doesn't really know a lot about his crew's backstories either sleeping through the story or not being present though he does know some of their backgrounds. In this case had he heard Nojiko's story he'd have to agree to leave which he didn't want to do (his crew were more believable in staying regardless). In the Live Action Luffy's more considerate and usually only knows parts of their stories that he needs to know (mostly due to changing the story where the village didn't know Nami's true motive).
They probably just cut any night time scenes, they ate lunch way too many times in these eps to still be the same day😂 i mean, Luffy wouldn't surprise me but the others usually eat normally lol though it probably still was just a couple days or so.

34:08 If a mosquito bites you, will you spare it because it's just a creature and not evil? If a spider crawls around on your pillow, will you spare it? What if a wolf or a bear goes in to take a chunk out of you, or a shark, will you spare them? Same thing here, I think.
Arlong Park is my favorite arc in special the Ep 37.
13:50 - Luffy doesn't know ANY back story!
What matters is if your a friend
Not completely true. He'll eventually come to know a few backstories.
When, on One Piece, the music "Overtaken" sounds, you know that the EPIC IS COMING.
The walk to arlong park is one of the best parts of the anime that the live action didn't include
Makes me so fucking happy you’ll are loving this series 🥹
When the crew 'Walks' altogether.. to pull up on somebody... its always gangsta.. every single time..!
You'll learn in this series that we LOVE every single "Strawhat pull up" and this was the first one.
Nakama sad? It's on sight.
just wait until you get further in the story and see arlong's history. You'll know when you get there, and think back to how he acts here. Its a really incredible bit of story telling
Carson’s hype during the Overtaken soundtrack is so like me…
One thing about One Piece is the infamous “walks”. This is the first walk you’re witnessing. The Walk to Arlong Park is one of the first OP things. Look forward for more. 👀
Omg thanks for the video! I've been waiting for this😊
Man watches your one piece videos goes by so fast!!
Jonny and Yosaku could become official Straw Hat Hype men.
(Somewhere in Louge Town a rooster sneezes)
"OP gets better after 1000 eps"
yeah yeah....here's a Simple Walk.
I'm only really noticing it now, but the 30% take of the 100 mil berries that Nezumi would have gotten is also what he sets Luffy's first bounty as.
All of the 'walks' are so epic. Can't wait for you guys to enjoy them all!!❤
Great reaction!
Welcome to the crew you two. I've been watching since 1999 And all I have to say is "you guys are in for a journey"😊😊😊
you hawe now witnessed the legendary "Walk to Arlong Park", series have their own imfamous scenes, this is probably our first one
finally ... the epic, iconic "Arlong Park- walk"
Hey if hou think about it, if you were that level of strenght it would be difficult to not destroy everything when going all out lol
Its like mike tyson trying to go all out but also not knock you out at the same time
If she's crying because of Momoo, wait till sabaody archipelago arc
🤫
@@user-ym1tt7bp6g you know what I'm talking about right? 😣
The walk to the ARLONG PARK never gets old !!! 🤘
Just enjoy the journey of one piece
The Nami "Help Me" scene is much better in the anime than the live action and this was the point that would solidify many who watched it as a new fan.
The walk to Arlong park is also iconic.
If only the eyes weren't drawn so inconsistently.
@@markussmedhus9717 That is the most minor thing ever I'm surprised that anybody has gripes with it
@@ComikelZero
Anime fans tend to like minors, don't they?
=P Anyway it's more a genre thing. Unintentionally derpy looks are no less errant than a miscolored cell.
And this is just a little portion of all of the epicity expecting for you in future episodes, the walk to Arlong Park was the first peak of One Piece, this is just the begin, prepare yourself for even more epic moments !! Glad to see your reaction !!
Luffy didn't need to hear the whole story, all he needed to know is that they made their navigator cry and that's enough to kick someone's ass
daytime and nighttime are surely more important that somebody sending arlong flying for the first time lol.
is was waiting for that episode
1 out of 1000 Hype moments in one piece, you're not ready
We call this “The point of no return” get someone to this episode and they can never turn back.
The episode that made me love the series is here!!!💥💥💥
the perfect other thing is that the whole village knew what Nami was doing till the start. they pretented to hate her cause Nojiko made the whole people in the secret. That's how it's powerful compared to the live action
The big different about luffy in live action and manga/anime is his personality...
In live action luffy talk too much about his achievement of beating his enemy but in anime he never talk about that, he even dont care of story
hell luffy soemtimes jsut forgets about some dudes if he doesn't like them enough or thin they're special
One Piece time frame is so short a lot of things happened in a day. But it feels like 20 years to me. 💀
And Momoo, you poor thing 🐮
5:49. The face of a man realizing no one dies in One Piece
When Luffys Crew Has that Doom Music Energy Kick In
The thing is, Straw Hats aren't heroes and per say good people. They only are such if they like you. So don't expect them to be nice to people and creatures just because.
Carson : just send it away
Luffy : yes.
"It's kinda crazy that this has all been the same day"
Can't wait for Dressrosa...
Welcome to One Piece!
The Momoo cameo later on is gonna hit different
And yeah the trope of Luffy being indisposed somehow while everyone else finishes their battles happens pretty often.
It's the downside of the big bad always having to go down last
kudo to the live action, when nami stabbing her tattoo it's exactly the same as in the anime, bit by bit. shot by shot it's all the same
The reason why they're trying to stop Arlong from fighting isn't because he has some immensely powerful AOE, it's because, as a shark, he's prone to go into a frenzy. They're concerned that, if Arlong fights and goes berserk, he won't care about collateral damage and will just destroy everything with his, admittedly, immense strength. They're not concerned he'll destroy the place in 5 seconds, they're afraid he'll destroy the place in 5 minutes.
plus he might destroy their house accidntally. and they like their house. it has their stuff in it.
oh boi, I can't wait for you to sail out into unknown seas after this arc~
Ep 37 was the episode when i realised that the onepiece is the one anime that im searching for
okay so i am caught to manga chp 1103, thought of rewatching...... now i am gonna rewatch with you guys ✊🏻✊🏻
To the young lady with the two different colored eyes my uncle has the same thing, it makes him look like he’s crazy tho (he kinda is) but it’s a cool look to have kinda jealous i never got those genetics
Linz is so damn cute with her explanations lol
Awesome to see new nakamas joining the crew, enjoy the journey guys!
When i reached ep 37 i knew that there's no going back☠️
LOL! Lindsay, will found the "Marine Cow Protection" NGO.
