- Ever wondered about the real impact of removing sway bars on your Subaru? In this video, I take an in-depth look at the pros and cons of sway bar removal, particularly for off-road enthusiasts. Join me as I delve into the benefits and potential drawbacks, sharing firsthand experiences and insights. We'll explore both the on-road and off-road capabilities of my Subaru Forester with the sway bars removed, and tackle the pressing question: "Can you drive without sway bars?"
The Forester: Built over a few years the 2004 Subaru Forester XS was built to test the limits of what is capable in an early 2000's Subaru with bolt-ons. Created for overlanding adventures it takes on the hardest offroad trails while having everything for camping. The Forester features: custom interior, rooftop tent, ARB rack with custom mounts, high clearance bumper, winch, Hella lights, transmission cooler, sway bar delete, offroad coilovers, AT tires, Beadlock wheels, overland kitchen and engine and trans skid plates. And to many people's surprise often keeping up with full-size 4x4s.

What do you think about removing sway bars?
the Ice Track's awesome !
Right! It is so much fun out there, hopefully I will build a purpose built ice race car some day!
I'm still on stock suspension and my normal setup is connected front, no rear. With the stock springs and no sway bars, I find the car nosedives under heavy breaking. I reconnected my rear sway for inspection and found it didn't nosedive nearly as much. I'm thinking of a quick disconnect solution is the way for me.
Oh interesting! But I can total see that with stock springs, and no rear sway bar, the weight transfer is going to be much more dramatic with a lifted, sway bar deleted car. I know SLO used to make rear sway bar disconnects back in the day but I am unsure if they make them anymore
Just getting my SF back on the road. Trying to deal with a front sway I ripped off
Oh damn how did it get ripped off?
@@Chase_Schrader a wheel slipped of the side of a cattle grate. It hooked on and broke the linkages. I like it removed though. And as you mentioned I have heavy springs, the body roll on the road is not an issue really. Not a great deal of horse power to roll it around. 😂
Ahaha yup might as well remove it at that point, it isn’t really necessary!
How much more travel did you actually get? It's not something I'd do as my car is pretty new but I do find it interesting.
It's hard to exactly tell since I put the coilovers on at the same time but it's a big enough difference that when I tested it compared to a Baja with 6 inch strut top lift and the sway bars connected, I made it through the cross ditch at an angle and he was not. Based off of how much his tires were in the air I would say 3-4 inches from side to side
