When I say never, I mean NEVER! And this is why. I do not believe Airbnb is PASSIVE, fair, enjoyable, or safe, at all. I am exploring this topic further in my weekly free newsletter, accessible here: shorturl.at/doV89.
I can relate when I used to have tenants. I had a tenant from hell who had friends over and wrecked the rental. Ended up paying $25K+ on damages. Huge lesson learned. I can vouch it’s certainly not passive income.
When I travel I usually check Sonder (very nice locations) first, or just get a hotel because both are cheaper than AirBNB anymore. During co\/id my friend had an airbnb house next to him and a family rented the place for a weekend which turned into several months. The airbnb host could not get the people out of it because of California co\/id rules at the time and the police were doing absolutely nothing and didnt want to get involved. The renters were chopping chicken heads and killing pigs in the backyard. Finally it took dozens of residents going to the police and writing to airbnb every day for months until finally the police removed them. It was a nightmare!
It took me 2 yrs to get a tenant out in ca. they kept moving in new squatters and subletting my home. Then I had to get legal help and serve all the new squatters as well. I had to finally get the county to condemn my home for substandard septic. That saved me from these a holes.
And me as a perfectly fine tenant am annoyed by having to basically "apply" just to stay at a place, justify why and then still wait for approval or hear no response because the host decided to just wait until the 24 hours to reply run out. Not to mention rather limited refund policies or weird house rules, making you question why they want to host to begin with. I just wanna stay somewhere, from to, not too many questions asked or uncertainty for trip planning. Am back to the traditional accommodations,...professional you know 😘
It's definately alluring to consider getting into vacation rentals, but it seems the reality of it could really suck! Thanks for sharing your experience!
Yeah, Airbnb definitely needs a quality check system. The last few airbnb's I've stayed at have all been poorly maintained and barely worth the money, not to mention the fact many of these places are falsely advertising their stay. It will be like "quaint single family home in the country side" and you get there and its a converted garage on the side of some dudes house with no AC... I think you are wise not to host any stays on the land. Its an added layer of problems that you probably don't need considering you are starting a farm, and it would probably leave you exposed to some of your more distasteful fans as well.
You can still do it if you ask them to call you first with name, do a little research interview and make a big deposit of $500 or more. If it is a questionable person decline it.
OMG that sounds horrible! the damage ruins thousands of dollars and the hoarding, I LIVED WITH A HOARDER...no joke, how could they do tha tin days, they must have been thrown out of home....and moved all stuff to yours.
I'm sorry to hear about your AirBnb experiences. I think those issues are mostly in the US. I only hear people in the US complaining about those things while people I hear from other countries seem to have almost 100% positive experiences of AirBnbs.
Love this video….. Very sorry about your bad experience with air bnb!…they definitely do not care about the owners and the renters experience. They just want their money and hope you go away like a bad cold. I have had a bad feeling about AIR BNB for a long time… I would love to see future videos about ways to effectively protect yourself and your business from these rude, toxic people that you were talking about have increased on fiverr from the time you started in 2015…. maybe begin by interviewing other business owners who share their cautionary stories, how they dealt with that situation and what their best advice is for others facing these challenges.
That wouldn't have stopped the destruction of my property though - and when Airbnb won't reimburse, I'm just out cash. I just don't believe Airbnb has your back

It’s cause you did it in Florida l. Those people are just on another level.Floridians are basically aliens
The company airbnb screws over hosts. A lot of they don’t cover anything when the guests destroy your property
Last time I did an airbnb this lady who was there for a week left him yes bubble GUM all over the house. Couch chairs bedding all over.

Not passive at all!
It’s a hustle on a hustle. However it’s still a lucrative way of building cash flow in comparison to rolling around a wheel like a hamster
@@gibsondevasagayam6512 Oh, yeah. It’s true. It’s ONE of the ways to make lucrative way to build cashflow.

Great post on so many levels!
Airbnb will be a thing of the past soon because of situations like this!
That's why it's better to rent to a one person/ family (+ to do some evaluation of them)in longer term than more on sites like Airbnb
I just love having you as my imaginary friends and you’d honesty. Really love your content
You’re learning about life.
It's definately alluring to consider getting into vacation rentals, but it seems the reality of it could really suck! Thanks for sharing your experience!
Thank you for shedding light. I was considering doing this with my investment property. now id rather wait
It could go better for you! But just wanted to be honest about my experience.
Wow that's insane! I used to be a landlord and am so much happier since I sold that place!!!
Yes landlordship is not for me!
Omg that sounds like a horror story! I'm so sorry to hear that you had that experience.

Wow! Sorry to hear about your experience. Switch to MTR ( Mid Term Rentals ), much safer way.
You should start your own air bnb model business. Think about it. 😊
airbnb is great outside the USA
I agree about people being ruder now compared to even just 8-10 years ago.
It’s crazy!
Nope...it's not passive income. It keeps you very busy with maintenance issues and crazies just like any hotel.😖
Airbnb also has wrecked the housing market and ruined small towns and made buying starter homes impossible
I was always suspect of Air BnB but THIS...
Ya this just seals the deal for me.
I like idea of buying farm land more and shall look into this.
Yes I highly recommend avoiding Airbnbing!

I would say I have heard it's the worst in the US
I am about to put my rental on Airbnb in the south of France... Are there any tips you have for avoiding difficult clients?
Yea the US sucks. I live here so I can say that.
@@kendals3833 for south of France there are many short term rental agencies (not sure if they help mitigate the risks and that charge a commission)
Most European cities are restricting Airbnb or banning it completely. This is why you don't hear horror stories.
