So sorry about her. I hope she pulls through. I can hear in your voice how concerned you are. I grew up on a small pig farm in Nebraska. I remember how alarming it was when an animal got sick and Dad had no idea what from or if it would spread to the others. We had an amazing vet all of those years and when he retired we were fortunate enough to have another come along who was just as wonderful. Always came to the farm to do whatever was needed.
I really hope the Heifer recovers. It all happened so quickly, was it too late in the day to take her to the Vet? Fresh water can make a huge difference. On a lighter note, Brooks has grown so much: She's getting to be a big girl now and no longer a baby. 😊💓

In this kind of extended DRY Desert in this area, it could be something as too much heat. She was lying in the mid-day sun, not shade, not near water, etc. Heat exhaustion and heat stroke is possible with any animal subjected to the 100+ temps we've been "enjoying" and doubly possible if she also is "sick" from something else like the water condition, disease, etc. Hope she does get better!
Looks like she has 3 day or BEF (Bovine Ephemeral Fever) . Not sure what you would call it in USA but in Australia, we just call it three-day sickness. It's basically the cattle/large animal equivalent of the flu. The symptoms are: depression, lameness, muscle stiffness, shivering, twitching, droopy ears drooling saliva, watery eyes, runny nose, reduced water and food intake. All we do is get a 4-in-1 flow pack which is basically just a vet-grade saline solution (like what they use for drips to supply fluids) and do a sub-cut (under the skin) therapy, as well as supply water and food to the animal until it recovers - in same list cases we have to use a tractor to lift the beast to encourage them to stand and move around. Honestly, that's what it looks lilke to me. But hopefuly all is well and she recovers
So sorry Dusty to see a yearling going through this as well as you ! I thought of snake bit like a lot of others . You can see she isn’t well ! Prayers for her and your family ! Brooks is getting so big ... and Elsa also ! Bless you all through this sadness your dealing with . I know you love your Bison and take very good cate of them ! Prayers ..
Dusty, we have a mold or crud that grows in stagnant water. It's a blue green looking floating scum. Grows in Ponds & still water. People have gotten sick swimming in it. Dogs have died. Many dogs who's owners let them swim in still water. Mystery until a few years ago. Shut down your pond. Fresh waterer you set up perfect!! Hope whole herd goes for fresh. I'm sure she didn't make it. Just by your evening report. Sorry for your issues. Hope it's only 1 that gets sick. Love your channel, love your work to raise Bison. Prayers & best wishes for your success !
I will be praying for relief of this heat and for healing for the bison. You can tell she wasn't feeling good at all. Poor baby girl. This heat is just killing so many animals this year. You might have to fence off the pond for now so the others don't get sick. Some might not want to use the tank and will go to the pond instead.
The way she's holding her tail, and her posture when standing leads me to think of an intestinal blockage or torsioning. It's gonna be one whale of a job getting her into the trailer!
@james Wolfe My dog had a liver torsion, which is very rare & it required surgery. She passed 6 months ago but not related to that. I’m still trying to get over her death. She was a good dog & companion
??? I think that it would be much easier for the vet to load himself in a vehicle and drive out to this ranch than for this rancher to load a sick bison into a trailer and head off to the clinic. Seriously!
So sorry about your calf, that is so sad to see an animal hurting ! I pray she will be alright! Brooks is totally adorable she has grown up so much!! The puppy is to cute ☺️!
So sorry about the yearling. I hope and pray she gets better. Brooks is getting so big and she is so cute. I love to watch your video's. I keep up with all of them. I just hope the yearling gets better and the rest don't catch whatever she has. Please keep us posted.
Hi from Scotland 🏴 there was a report from Germany and Poland just the other day about thousands and thousands of fish getting lifted out of the water dead, they re on it’s because the water is so stagnant due to lack of rain it has poisoned the fish plus there is low oxygen levels in it for them. I hope your beautiful herd are ok love and best wishes ❤️🏴
FYI, for next year I think its Arms family farms who puts something blue in the water in their pond at beginning of summer every year which is supposed to prevent some kind of bad algae from growing in the pond and making the animals sick. First time I've seen your channel, I come from a long line of cattle owners, Holstein cattle and dairy people. I'm old enough to be your mom, or grandma. I knew your heifer was sick, I hope she was able to get well. This nasty heat and no rain it's just horrible even here in California. Although I think you guys have it worse than we do. Prayers for rain to soothe the land and keep the animals healthy. I give you great praise for doing what you do. Being a cattlemen and farmer is very, very hard work. 💗💗💗🙏🙏🙏🙏 to you, your family and your farm.
Prayers up Dusty for her and entire herd that she gets better and no one else gets sick. Maybe she's constipated by way she kept holding tail up or a toxic shock syndrome going on. That's a problem with livestock is there's always something that happens.
Poor girl. Hoss was checking on her. So sorry. Hope you figure out the problem. Have a bless day. Love you guys. Enjoyed listening to Ms. Brooke counting. She is growning so fast.
Dusty, Cole at Sonne Farms lost 3 calves I believe last summer when SD had a drought and there pond on one of the pastures had dried up a lot like yours is. He had to put out a water tank and put up fence around the Pond to keep the animals out of the water and from drinking it. Now unless they did blood work or another way, there’s no telling if that’s why your Heifer is sick. 🙏🏽 that you get it medication and is able to save it and prevent the others from getting sick.
Hi Dusty, sorry about your loss. Wondering if she had some sensitivity to what she was eating, or possibly a complete intolerance? Are there any post mortem checks that could be done to identify risks for the rest of your herd? Animals are so challenging as they can't tell us what they are going through! Enjoying seeing what is involved in Bison 🦬Farms!!!
Very sorry to hear this. You try so hard in this impossible drought. I surprised more animals has not been affected. Pray for a better tomorrow.🙏🌅🇺🇸🇩🇰💙
It almost looks like she's blind, and can't find her way to the herd. But I'm also wondering if she has been bitten by a snake. At one point when she stood up she had one of her front hooves lifted like it was hurt, although she didn't limp on it. Which is also confusing. I hope she gets better Dusty, you put so much time and effort to make sure they all live their best life.
jeeze to bad there many poison plants Maybe charcoal dredge.. blood draw to determine the toxin na stool sample to r/o parasitic poison... way too young to suddenly die
Wow. She acts just like our cat who was ill for three days. Wouldn't eat or drink. Laying down on anything cool. Slight fever. Wouldn't walk much. Would hack but threw up nothing. We suspected hair ball? But nothing like in the past. We force fed her water from a dropper so she wouldn't get dehydrated. Kept an eye on her. Prayed😊 Finally, on third day she got better. Eventually, threw up something gross. ?? Might have been something she ate awhile ago. 100 % fine now. We hope yours recovers, too. Keep giving her fresh water anyway you can. . They won't drink if they hurt. Anyway. Just some thoughts. Nice family. ❤
So sorry to see your heifer in so much pain. I’m praying you can figure out what’s wrong with her and she’s alright. It’s heartbreaking to see her suffering like that, but I know you’re doing everything possible for her. God bless y’all! ❤️🦬
So sorry you have a sick Bison.....definitely something wrong.....hope it's better by morn....God Bless you , you are so good with your animals.....love your little girl she is so cute.....
I would definitely do more recent search and listing of all possible vets in close area. There may have been recent changes. Others may be more dedicated than the one down the road that you obviously can't rely on. List who does and who doesn't do 'house calls'. A handy list for emergencies. Would be a very wise decision moving forward. These animals are important to you and have dollars invested. Not counting, it is hard to see an animal in extreme stress and in pain. I pray pray your little yearling heifer recovers overnight. 🙏🙏🙏
Waters stressful and heat exhaustion maybe. I hope she recovers quickly with cleaning and water and vitamin s ASAP to help her out . Shade also. Till she can move better . Rapid breathing I saw . Destress so. I hope her Heart is good . . Feed also closer to her. If possible. Thank you for sharing concerned about your herd health. As well.
Those are also symptoms of heat stroke. The rapid breathing, disorientation, weakness and fever etc. It puts a tremendous strain on the heart and kills many people as well as animals every year. Yes she had shade and ways to cool off but it only takes 1 bad decision to wait a little longer before it becomes the last bad decision they make. Add in a little stomach upset as the reason for waiting to drink and that's all that's needed to start the process going. I hope she recovered and none of the others get sick.
We had an animal really sick, couldn't walk. I like happened overnight. Went to three vets, couldn't figure it out. Spent lots of money, was going to put her down. Changed her diet and lots of prayer and 4 years later would not know she had been sooo sick. Animals are unpredictable and sometimes things happen for what seems to be no reason at all. My prayers are with your heard.
I'll come back and watch these later on. I've already watched two or three. They're really great. It was after I saw something about Bison attacking tourists in Yellowstone Park, that I got onto these ones. They're really great.
Oh Dusty, that’s definitely a sign of something is wrong. One year we had an extremely hot and dry summer and some of our horses got very sick from eating a small flowered plant that thrives in drought conditions. Possible that could be a cause too? I hope she survives but in the event she doesn’t will you have a necropsy and bloodwork done to help determine cause since she was very healthy? Prayers for her and the herd.
She looks like she’s in a great deal of pain, labored breathing and limping. Dusty can you check that pond for toxins and your grass? Maybe do a water check in the pond water? Truly hope she’s ok, that was hard to watch and hard to believe a vet won’t come TO you and I hope they do and fast. Look forward to her update. Prayers.
Hey I have had cows and horses all of my life and very lucky to have had great vets that would come when ever you call them and what was the best thing is they would teach you what to do if you had something like this happened and you could not get a veterinarian.hey a lot of the time knowledge is the key to if you can save the animals. Sometimes you can't wait for a vet to get there.
Wow I remember watching before brooks was born she has grown . And I sure hope this is correctable and at least doesn’t affect the rest . You took great care with lumpy and I’ll always stay tuned .
I sure hope she can come around & get to feeling better. She was shaking alot so tht does indicate she is sick. I just hate to see you lose any of your Bison. Your Bison are just amazing & how you get to know them all. You all will be in my prayers & thoughts. Please keep us in contact so we know how she does🙏❤🙏
Lepto and ecoli claimed a few of our beef stock this year. Looks the same as your calf. Same situation as your pond. They had clean water but chose to drink the pond water. The pond is now fenced off.
I'm not a rancher but even I can see 1506 is in distress bc of her breathing, laying in the hot sun & allowing you to touch her. Could she have been bit by a rattle snake 🐍 or cotton mouth or have some GI issue going on....constipation, gut twist, eaten something toxic, bad water, etc, etc? Can you place a portable shade over her? That's all my uneducated mind can come up with 🤔 Dusty. I sure hope this little girl gets better & not worse. Can Doc stop by to see her in the pasture so you can get that RX you need a prescription for? Prayers 🙏🙏🙏 for this little gal.

Just a tip. The next time your vet comes out ask him if you can buy some medications you might need in case of an emergency when he is not available. My vet sells me Banamine,Bute etc for my horses. They are prescription medications that I can use if needed. You can also get your vet to approve prescription medications you order online from places like Jeffers.

Have you considered bloat, I've dealt with bloat and it can take an animal down fast. Hope she recovers. You take incredible care of your animals you are a great steward
I agree with many of the comments. Look, hot weather and stagnate water can produce blue green algae (actually a bacteria), which produce neurotoxins like microcystin. This is emerging as a problem. There are a handful of BG toxins that target different organs. I hate to say it seems to be more common with a warming climate. This is getting to be a concern in N. climates too. Just a thought. I hope she got better.

You need Dr Pol. I bet he'd fax it in. Try TAM University large vet clinic.
So sorry about her. I hope she pulls through. I can hear in your voice how concerned you are. I grew up on a small pig farm in Nebraska. I remember how alarming it
was when an animal got sick and Dad had no idea what from or if it would spread to the others. We had an amazing vet all of those years and when he retired we were fortunate enough to have another come along who was just as wonderful. Always came to the farm to do whatever was needed.
Please keep us updated.Praying she will be okay 🙏🏼
I really hope the Heifer recovers. It all happened so quickly, was it too late in the day to take her to the Vet? Fresh water can make a huge difference. On a lighter note, Brooks has grown so much: She's getting to be a big girl now and no longer a baby. 😊💓
Yes momma also the farmer he has a heart of gold the momma must be. Real tired. Also she may kick the father out of the field for a while God bless her the b any and the other mom we are sorry for her loss
Now I know why .free from in the fields seper rate the dad so he won't act like a male and want to bother her for a while. Maybe she will kick him out herself (humor) best wishes. For the farmer and the mom God bless

Glad Doc Parsons can actually SEE her via your video. If he can’t save her no one can. He’s a genius
Yes, l'm thinking that she could be experiencing heat stress, as well as blocked up.
My hearts goes out to you and your herd..Hope everything turns out good for you ...Sending prayers that she recovers 🦬🦬🦬🦬🦬
Hope you get her figures out soon and others don't get ill. Brooks is growing so quick, her hair is so long!! Such a cutie!🙏💕🙏
Prayers for the bison. Take care and stay safe out there. GOD BLESS Y'ALL.
Looks like she has 3 day or BEF (Bovine Ephemeral Fever) . Not sure what you would call it in USA but in Australia, we just call it three-day sickness. It's basically the cattle/large animal equivalent of the flu. The symptoms are: depression, lameness, muscle stiffness, shivering, twitching, droopy ears
drooling saliva, watery eyes, runny nose, reduced water and food intake.
I sure hope he read your comment. You sound like you know what you’re talking about. 🤞❤️
Some might not want to use the tank and will go to the pond instead.
...fence off the pond yes but a shower of sprinkler water will help keep them cooler have it on a timer maybe ...
@@willgaukler8979 one of those fan with mister would be great. Uses less water than a sprinkler would and feels so cool.
@@annettebalerio1846 ... that's a better idea
Oh my goodness that baby girl has gotten so big and her hair has gotten so long
I hope she makes it till you can get her to the vet good luck
Poor baby. Heartfelt prayers for her. And you, also. Hoping & praying she will be good in the morning.
The way she's holding her tail, and her posture when standing leads me to think of an intestinal blockage or torsioning. It's gonna be one whale of a job getting her into the trailer!
Bloat?
@james Wolfe My dog had a liver torsion, which is very rare & it required surgery. She passed 6 months ago but not related to that. I’m still trying to get over her death. She was a good dog & companion
??? I think that it would be much easier for the vet to load himself in a vehicle and drive out to this ranch than for this rancher to load a sick bison into a trailer and head off to the clinic. Seriously!
Clearly in distress. Put her down.
I'm thinking much the same thing, l'd be inclined to give water and feed to see if she will eat/drink it, she wont touch it if she is really crook.
Wishing for the best Dusty! Prayers for your yearling.
So sorry about your calf, that is so sad to see an animal hurting ! I pray she will be alright! Brooks is totally adorable she has grown up so much!! The puppy is to cute ☺️!
🥹
Hope she gets better. Good luck Dusty. Brooks sure has grown a lot.
Dusty so sad to see her in distress and I know you are exceptionally good to the Bison. Hope she makes it. Prayers to you and the female bison. 🙏🙏🙏
Bless your heart ! Thank you for helping this Precious Soul ⚘️ 💗
Sending prayers that she will pull through and that the rest of the herd will be all right!
My prayers are with you. May you be able to save this yearling.
Poor girl. Hoss was checking on her. So sorry. Hope you figure out the problem. Have a bless day. Love you guys.
Enjoyed listening to Ms. Brooke counting. She is growning so fast.
Good luck. Its a pleasure to see you work so hard to keep them well. I had horses and its a 365 day job. Never a day off
So sorry to see 1506 is not well. Said a prayer for her and for you as well. I commend you for how well you take care of your animals. Be strong.
Prayers for your yearling. Please keep us updated
Brooks is so well behaved!
You are a great dad!!
Prayers for your heifer 🙏❤️
Poor baby I feel so sorry for her. Bless her heart. I hope she feels better soon.
Praying for her and all the others! I'm kind of surprised that the Local Vets can't come over to you! That sucks!
I hate seeing an animal in distress or feeling poorly. I love these beautiful bison. I pray she’ll be well quickly.
I can tell on your face how concerned you are. Prayers for you.
So sorry to see one of the yearlings down …. she is obviously distressed ….. hope you can figure out what’s wrong and she’s better soon
Poor thing 😢 sending prayers 🙏 ❤ hugs
Hi Dusty.
Awww...poor thing, I hope she gets better.
Sending prayers, Dusty.
I was thinking snake bite as well.
That was my thought too, bitten by a snake or something toxic because she’s labored breathing and limping.
I thought that, too.
There would be massive swelling from a snake bite.
jeeze to bad there many poison plants Maybe charcoal dredge.. blood draw to determine the toxin na stool sample to r/o parasitic poison... way too young to suddenly die
Oh Bless you yearling, so sorry 😢 I know you hate having a sick one, prayers 🙏🙏🙏🙏
The unfortunate part about livestock and this heat. Glad you got her up and she got to water, I'd definitely have her checked out.
Prayed😊
Finally, on third day she got better.
Dusty, I am so sorry that your yearling is not well.. prayers for her recovery 😔😔🙏🙏🙏
Awwwwww please I’m praying she will be ok. That breaks my heart. 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
I really hope she is going to pull through this. I’m gonna keep her in my prayers!! 🙏🙏🙏❤️✝️
Hopes and prayers are with you . Please keep us updated .
As well.
Aww I’m so sorry to see her like this. We’ll have to say an extra prayer for her 🙏🏼🙏🏼
Those are also symptoms of heat stroke.
Prayers.
So sad! Praying you find the cause of her illness and be able to protect the herd! 🦬
Please keep us in contact so we know how she does🙏❤🙏
A fever plus your Oklahoma heat a difficult combination. Prayers for you and your herd.
Hi Dusty-- so sorry to hear about your calf being sick I pray that you will be able to find out what caused this illness please let us know 🙏 prayers will be with you 🙏 hope the day turns out better for you thanks for sharing this and until next time be safe and healthy 😀
Yes, I noticed her breathing was rapid and labored. She looked weak and uncomfortable. I understand the stress of getting her in a trailer and transporting her to the vet may have been too much for her. I hope all goes well.
I agree. I was disappointed with the local vet’s response
@@CrossTimbersBison they sound like ours, don't want to take your word for it or even want to listen to another vet, they want you to bring the animal in so they can charge you for an office visit & to see her, even if they wouldn't know what's wrong.
I hope she made it. But without medication it's doubtful. 🙏
Need to find a good mobile vet if you have those in your area. It’s so hard to find a good vet these days that actually care about the animal vs the $$. I hope you get figured out and your heard is okay it’s a shame the vet wasn’t a help!
Need a Dr. Pol in your area
@@CrossTimbersBison Maybe if you could find one young-new vet to become mobile, others would see the advantage? Praying for the best outcome. Mal
@@katiestronge1723 definitely!!
I hope you get a vet very soon! Poor girl, it is heartbreaking when they get sick.
Tele health call?
Thank you for all the hard work and effort you put into caring for your bison. I will pray for the little one and the herd.
Oh, the poor dear thing! Love to her. I’ll pray right now.
I had a yearling black angus with similar symptoms. Although she died in about 16 hours, none of the others were affected. The vet said it was a fast-acting pneumonia. So vey hard.
0102 hours on 2023, 6/27…..what happened with 1506? Is she ok?! I will take pray for her! I am new to this channel and absolutely love it! I grew up raising Limousine and Simmental cattle for 4-H and it is so sad when one is sick and u don’t know what is going to happen….lots of love and prayers for her!
Thank you for sharing. Daniel Arms told me about you and said I should come and have a look. I am sad for your yearling. Sending you Prayers for him/her. Love and Blessings to you all.

Prayers for your calf and you as well Dusty!
So sorry about the yearling I hope you can find out what happen sending prayers your way from Kingston Queensland Australia
Just a tip. The next time your vet comes out ask him if you can buy some medications you might need in case of an emergency when he is not available. My vet sells me Banamine,Bute etc for my horses. They are prescription medications that I can use if needed. You can also get your vet to approve prescription medications you order online from places like Jeffers.
Praying 🙏 for her Dusty, poor baby. I hope she can gets over what sickness happened to her. You are so good to your Bison herd you look after them as all good Ranchers do. Prayers for you all.🙏🙏🙏❤️
Dusty, you being the self acclaimed expert on bison, should have see that coming, just by looking at the still water in that pond. Good luck with the rest of those yearlings.
Have you considered bloat, I've dealt with bloat and it can take an animal down fast. Hope she recovers. You take incredible care of your animals you are a great steward
Very sorry she is down. Thinking about you and her! Take care.
Looks like much needed rain is coming your way in this video. Brooks is such a good helper!
Oh no Dusty. Life is a challenge for all. 🤞that 1506 pulls through. Thanks for sharing your adventures with us and keep up the great work 👍
Aurora,Missouri has a vet office and I am pretty sure that vet goes to farms. It is Aurora animal . There is one in Republic, Mo. also,, I think that vets name is Stringer. We use the one in aurora for our little dogs. We live in town, no farm... too old now. love your videos. Brooke i growing so fast,
so smart too !
So Aurora Animal and Dr Stringer will be okay with the 300 mile drive one way? So he treats little dogs all the way up to bison?
I hope you don't loose her Dusty and that no other yearling gets ill.
Sorry for your lose. We can tell you take very good care of your animals. Sometimes there is nothing you can do.
I seen someone say they had cattle get poisoned from the saw dust of a cedar they cut down. I've never heard that about a cedar but definitely a wild cherry tree will hurt them. Might want to check on the cedars since you have taken a bunch out.
DEFINITLEY NEEDS FRESH WATER. THE POND SHOULD BE FENCED OFF.
So sorry. Hard to watch one of your herd get sick. Blessings. ❤️❤️
