Wonderful reaction and I agree with your comments. Michelle Phillips the last remaining member of the Mamas and Papas was so amazing she posted it with the video and a great comment on 12 year old Angelina rendition. ❤👍
She takes us by the hand and shows us the cold winter day longing for a dream of California . What a great creative Artist with a complex but beautiful Voice ❤️😍
She has the ability to take on any genre that she chooses and make it an unforgettable masterpiece that you must experience over and over again. Each time you revisit this performance it rolls over you like a warm summer breeze and takes you to a salubrious place.
What a stellar and wonderful analysis. How does this miracle child artist take decades old classics and rearrange them so beautifully, at 12 years old. Unbelievable.
I was there when this song was released by the Mama's and the "Papa's in 1965, so the original is imprinted on my brain. And like you, I like Angelina's version better. She has rearanged and added her special touch to many of her covers, but the one's with the most radical overhaul (IMO) are: "California Dreamin'", "Suspicious Minds", and "Billie Jean". And I like/love Angelina's versions of all three better than the originals. Most singers would be afraid to alter any of those classic songs, but she just seems to have no fear. Loved your reaction, Mr Boyd.
Love your actual reaction, appreciation of Angelina, I remember your first reaction to … “Angelina Jordan 13, frankly I don’t know who or what that is” well you certainly know now and I’m glad you do cheers from Aus 🇦🇺🦘
I'm sure I repeat myself, but she is such a joy to see and hear as she re-does the music of my past. And I just love it. Thanks for continuing your journey with this lovely person. I enjoy your commentary and expertise.
An iconic song of the 60s completely reinvented into a great new song, 57 years later, by a 12 year old girl wearing a Donald Duck sweatshirt. If Angelina's version had been released first in 1965 (before the original), it is hard for me to beleive that the Mamas & Papas version would have ever been released. Angelina's version perfectly matches the feeling of the melody with the meaning of the lyrics.
Ivan Mendez was Angelina's (12y) guitarist in LA in 2018. In an interview with Alan Papier on his UA-cam channel, Ivan told the story of how the cover came about. In a nutshell "Angelina doesn't have a wish list of songs, she decides spontaneously if she likes a song. After hearing this song she says great song and has downloaded the lyrics. Then Ivan played the melody and Angelina says" good but slower, slower , even slower. OK, well, let's start ". Then the cover was recorded in one take, Angelina sang the song here for the first time after her arrangement without rehearsing beforehand. 💯 *AJ* 💯
What you write is so true and proves Angelina is much more than a singer. Angelina is a musician of the highest degree. Her musical intellect is that of a master from long ago. A true prodigy.
I agree with you that her rendition of this song is a more pure interpretation of the lyrics that fits the story of the song perfectly. I enjoyed the original for it's musicality and style but the way that the Mamas and the Papas sang it always seemed to be incongruous with the lyrics. Great reaction.
MRLBOYD, please read the comment from Albert Philippi, about how this rendition came about, and you will be even more impressed by AJ's talents. Ivan and Egil (Oslo) both said all their "home" covers with Angelina were done in the same manner. Their main direction was to follow her tempo. That is why you often see her looking at a phone, or offscreen, to read the lyrics.
Please don't reject the original, it is still brilliant. AJ's rendition is just so different, so changed, as to make a comparison pointless. Love these sessions she did with Ivan.
First thing I've ever disagreed with you--I LOVE Angelina Jordan, but NO-ONE, not even this amazing young lady can match the original. It does a disservice, especially to Cass Elliot, who was maybe one of the few in the same class as Angelina as a vocalist, to say Angelina's version is "better" when it is stylistically totally different just because you personally prefer it. I'll stick with the Mamas and the Papas who performed it perfectly and the song itself didn't want or need any "growing up." It PERFECTLY embodied the spirit of those times--the times I grew up in (I'm 78). Angelina's version is nice, fine musically, but she made it an entirely different song that embodies NONE of that spirit that made it a special anthem for my generation, something a young'un like you evidently just cant' grasp and appreciate. Some artists just OWN a song, like Bobby Hatfield came to own UNCHAINED MELODY, Frank Sinatra owns NEW YORK, NEW YORK, Kate Smith owns GOD BLESS AMERICA , Patsey Cline owns CRAZY, and Tony Bennett owns I LEFT MY HEART IN SAN FRANCISCO. The Mamas and Papas own THIS song in that same way and ALWASYS WILL despite the transcendent talent of Angelina Jordan or of anyone else. It is not amenable to improvement."
Awesome reaction to The Master of Covers and Queen of Music, God Bless!

You are absolutely right: This isn’t a cover, but one of Angelina’s many improved originals.
I never go back to the original aftet Angelina has perform.

when a 12 yr old shows you how your own song is to be sung, you know it's time for pause and thought....
Here is one you missed by Angelina at 11 years old that I'm sure you will enjoy. Loving Youua-cam.com/users/shorts0kQpsd59Bxs
