    I have been retired for a time. I am a hands on technical man myself and you have inspired me to get involved with vacuum tube construction. How i loved those short wave Dumont television days. You're a wonderful hands on engineer...and thanks very much.

    Absolutely incredible. This is beyond DIY, this is home science. I'm using your videos as an education to learn how tubes work with the plan of starting a tube manufacturing company. Simply astonishing boostrap efficiency. You are, beyond any question, a genius of the first order.

      Lauren Estill hopefully you’ll do better than rch Labs... they were well funded and had everything you could need and more, including a clean room, but they never actually sold their 6l6s and were liquidated making aspen Pittman’s American GE tube equipment dispersed and no longer all together for good

    Hello!
    It is homeade. The commercial ones are made for welding large pieces so they are too clumsy for the delicate tube making. I used a transformer from an old 1200 watt microwave oven for the core and cut off the high voltage secondary and replaced it with enough copper strap to get 5 volts.

  • @glasslinger

    It was a find on ebay. I paid $20 for it. They don't come around often. They are originally used for resistance soldering machines for high density electronic connectors.

    Oh ok, I kinda figured it was homemade by the looks of it, just wasn't too sure and I'm not surprised that you are useing a Microwave Transformer as I'm looking for one currently to make a Battery Tab Spot Welder for like Ni-Cad's and such. My next question and the most important one is where did you get that neat lil Pinch Handle or whatever it's called?
    Thank you so much for the Reply :)

    The normal color of getters is anything from a deep black to a tan. The color has to do with the type of getter material. Do not heat the glass envelope where the getter is flashed. This will cause the trapped gas in the getter flash to be evolved into the tube, thus ruining the tube. If you want to "refresh" the getter you must use an induction heater on the getter ring to heat it to red hot again. There is no other way. See my "tubecrafter" website for more info on the getter flasher.

    I've learning a lot with these great videos. Could you please tell me dear Glasslinger, where do I get the "getters" or how I do to make them? Thanks! :)

    • @glasslinger
      @glasslinger  6 років тому +2

      There are online sources but you have to buy thousands at a time. (hundreds of dollars) You can take the getters out of old TV tubes and most of the time they have enough left in them to get a good flash. Remember, the getter immediately starts deteriorating when it is exposed to air so be right ready to use it when you break the old tube. You have less than 30 minutes! Be quick!

    Fantastic!! How did you make the blow tube with the shielded bearing? I suppose , how did you assemble it so that it works?

    • @glasslinger
      @glasslinger  11 місяців тому

      Make a cup housing with one tube on the side. (the bearing should press fit) Make the second tube to press fit into the bearing hole. Nothing to it! Be sure to select a freely turning bearing so your hose will not get twisted up.

    • @johnkoury1116
      @johnkoury1116 11 місяців тому

      @@glasslinger I just ordered a shielded bearing from Amazon as soon as I saw what you said. Do you mean one part on the outer part and one through the hole?

    • @glasslinger
      @glasslinger  11 місяців тому

      @@johnkoury1116 Yes. The bearing separates the two tubes. Of course make the tubes the diameter to fit your hose. 1/4 I.D. surgical tubing is what I use.

    Hi Ms. Glasslinger. Is the Bias Voltage Synonymous With the B+ Voltage? Exactly what does this Voltage do? Does it act like a Signal to turn a Tube "ON & OFF" like a Relay? THANK YOU in Advance.

    What is the model of your ion tube and diffusion pump? Also did you change to a turbo pump?

    • @glasslinger
      @glasslinger  3 роки тому

      I have old air cooled 4 stage Veeco diffusion pumps in both the main system and the leak detector. I have a turbo in both the bench top system and the vacuum plating system. The ion gauges are the standard glass type you see on ebay for 50 bucks.

    Very nice presentation. I would like to know about the welding machine. you said that you use 10 - 60 A current. Can you please tell me whether it is a AC or DC power? I tried to make one by using a high current transformer. I use directly AC current. It welds well the stainless steel wires and foils well. But i see problem in tungsten wire spot welding.

    • @glasslinger
      @glasslinger  3 роки тому

      Ah yes! Tungsten and copper are difficult to weld! Use a thin piece of nickel foil between the two pieces to serve as a weld material. I use .003 nickel shim stock available online cheap. Cut it into a long thin strip and clamp the end between the piece to be welded to the tungsten. The strip can then be trimmed off with a cutters.

    • @nanoindus
      @nanoindus 3 роки тому

      @@glasslinger thanks for the information. My question was whether you use DC capacitor discharge method to weld or straight with high current AC from stepdown transformer to weld? whether you use AC or DC for welding.
      Can i get your email to contact you directly?

    • @glasslinger
      @glasslinger  3 роки тому

      @@nanoindus I have two units, one uses the direct AC current from a high current transformer and the second unit uses a 100,000 mfd 50 volt capacitor that is charged to various voltages to get the correct weld pulse. The transformer is best for larger welds that take a lot of heat while the capacitor discharge works best for fine wires that need a very short pulse to keep from burning the wire in half. You can directly contact me through the messaging system.

    i made a vidoe on a ozone gas generater i built and it makes 26 to 30 $ a month for some reason? its the most popular video i have ad wise , people who go to that vidoe buy stuff from the adds on my page , you could build the coolist ozone generater on the block with the stuff you have, just to save you time if you do build 1 hihg frequency is best and low heat becuase ozone has a half life of 1 second at 250 degrees F so low temp units make more ozone gas
