  • This video, produced by AMC TV in 1977, shows the Concept 80 show at its stop at the McCormick Inn (a hotel formerly on the south wing of McCormick Place, demolished in 1993) in Chicago during June 1977. Much of the footage was likely filmed on 21 June 1977, as that's when the recorded speeches were made.
Concept 80 was a set of six concept cars (five new ones, and one recycled from the 60s) which reflected the ambitions of the company going forward into the next decade. The old Amitron electric concept was rebadged as the Electron. It was joined by Concept 1, a sporty sedan, Concept 2, a stubby version of 1, a grand touring car (to succeed the original AMX), a new Jeep, and the AM Van.
AMC was hobbled its entire existence by a lack of capital, and once again lacked the capital to follow-through on their own roadmap.

Thank you so much for sharing these footage! AMC is genuinely my favorite car manufacturer of all time and being able to see actual footage of the Concept 80 cars is incredible!

Wish AMC would have stayed in buisness. They built some cool cars ,AMX and the 4 wheel drive Eagle.

I still saw an awful lot of "Gremlin" in half of those cars. One looked a lot like a Chevrolet Cavalier which was 6 years in the future. They should have stuck with it.
I'd like to see what all those WOMEN look like now!!!!!!!!!!

It would've been interesting to see the wagon version of the Concept I/II, maybe something like the Hornet Sportabout but with a liftgate that opened to the load floor?
It's a shame AMC wasted the last of its' development money on the Matador coupe and Pacer which turned out to be short-lived hits rather than the decade-defining turning points the company needed them to be. If only they had kept the Buick V6 for the Pacer, or even written it in as a contingency in the contracts selling it back to GM and buying Wankels.

They needed to stick with this program instead of relying on Renault. Ten years later they were gone.
