I have both the Nomi and the Steps. My 2.5 year old currently uses the Nomi and my 5 year old uses the Steps. I prefer the Nomi for baby led weaning but the Steps feels safer (at least for my fearless, adventurous, climbing, fast-acting, escape artist child #2) plus the Steps is easier to wipe down and clean.
    NOMI DOWNSIDES
I don’t like that the Nomi gets gunked up easily in the groove that’s for adjusting the seat and feet heights. Another downside is the straps need to be removed and washed frequently and they are NOT fun to remove. Also, it didn’t take long for my daughter to figure out how to wiggle out of the straps, but if I tightened them too much she couldn’t lean forward to take a bite of food (which increased the mess that ended up on her and the floor vs back onto her plate and tray). I ended up removing the straps but then she kept trying to climb in and out of her chair by herself (I swear she waited for the second I turned my back to do this every time). When I felt she was old enough I removed the surrounding seat part (figuring that would be safer than her trying to climb in/out on her own whenever I was busy straining pasta, pouring milk for her older brother, etc.), but she unfortunately had a number of falls because there was nothing to support her sides if she didn’t sit with her back well lined up with the backrest. Also, the Nomi’s feet stick out the back and are easy to trip on, plus my Roomba always gets stuck on them- though the Steps’ back legs have tripped quite a few of my guests (and myself) too. The buckle for the Nomi also didn’t even last us a year and we had to replace it which wasn’t cheap (nor was it easy to come by).
    STEPS DOWNSIDES
The downside to the Steps is the adjustable foot rest range is limited and I found it to work for one of my kids at the ideal ergonomic positioning for eating but not the other yet. Nevertheless, with its rounded sides I feel it is safer than my Nomi (I don’t have the baby set for my Steps). I also personally enjoy sitting in the Steps over the Nomi; I feel more secure and comfortable.
Side note, you can get a tray for the Nomi….
Currently I just pull both chairs right up to the table.
Hope someone finds this info helpful.

Foot rest is adjustable but just two positions, you can flip it upside down so it's slightly higher or back the way you have it. I have it but don't love it, thinking of switching to the steps!

Omg thank you what a useful tip! And I appreciate the way you bring it to everyone's attention kindly and don't tell me I am an idiot for missing that :) My best friend has the stepps and she has LOVED it for her kiddo. She likes how easy it is to clean and that her son can't tip it over.
