Wow, what an exquisite piece of artistry! You've crafted a magnificent, ethereal bowl that truly captures the imagination. The delicate design and airy feel make it a masterpiece of ceramics. I'm in awe of your talent and skill. Well done!
Thank you for your comment. I think "Moxa clay" is probably a clay unique to Japan. If you use sandy clay, you can expect the same effect, so please look for it.
Thank you for your comment. The size and weight of matcha bowls vary greatly depending on the type. The matcha bowl in the video is φ13cm x H8cm and weighs about 400g. Please use this as reference.
Two questions: What material is the container for the charcoal? Is it clay? Does it also work in an electric kiln? So you can cheat an oxidation area in an electric kiln environment? Greetings from Germany Jonas
Thank you for your comment. The material of the firebox is clay. Made of fire-resistant and heat-resistant clay. (In Japan, it is called tool clay. It is a coarse clay containing chamotte.) When you put charcoal inside a firebox and fire it in an electric kiln, the charcoal acts to create a reducing atmosphere, which further transforms the kiln. This is an interesting firing method.
Thank you for your comment. The difficulty level as a beginner is not so high, but it may be difficult to make it look good. Even if you simply distort it, it won't look good. Challenge yourself.
Hello Dear, its the first time I saw the creation of reduction firing in a closed atmosphere and made me quite excited. This is amazing i subbed your channel and liked the video. Just one question: are you sure that the gas dont come out?
Thank you for your comment. I would be happy if it was helpful. When baking in a firebox, there is a smell. I think some gas is coming out, so please ventilate the room. However, since the entire inside of the kiln is not reduced, the effect is limited to the inside of the firebox.
Thank you for your comment. There are various sizes of matcha bowls. I think the sensitivity of the writer is great. Most of the matcha bowls I make are around φ13cm and height around 8-9cm.
I would be very curious to know the technical name and manufacturer of the firebox that the cup goes in if you would please share that that would be wonderful. A wonderful video thank you so much
Thank you for your comment. I made my own firebox. In Japan, it is also sold under the name "Saya". It may have a different name in your country. If you can find a similar refractory box-shaped item, try looking for it.
Wow, very interesting process, thanks a lot Kiraku!

I am making a fairly distorted matcha bowl.
I think this distortion is a Japanese aesthetic sense.
It is so satisfying process. Thank you for the video. Greetings from Berlin

Japanese matcha bowls have a beautiful uneven shape.

It's a lot of fun to mold freely by hand!
Lovely video. Was inspired to make some bowls like this, but unsure of which technique. This help loads
Thank you for your comment.
I would be happy if it was helpful.
Thanks for the video. Do you also use ash glaze on matcha bowls?
Thank you for your comment.
I use many different types of glazes.
I use ash glaze, feldspar glaze, and black glaze.
It's fun to try different glazes.
Beautiful
thank you for positive comments.
Hello, that is beautiful!!
Thank you for your comment.
I made the firebox myself.
I think it would be relatively easy to make if you use an electric potter's wheel.
I like it.
thank you!
I really want to learn

Please watch the video and use it as a reference.
is it possible to buy mogusa clay in Europe?
Thank you for your comment.
I think "Moxa clay" is probably a clay unique to Japan.

Thanks for the video. What is the "normal" size of a tea ceremony chawan. Height, width and weight.
Thank you for your comment.

The matcha bowl in the video is φ13cm x H8cm and weighs about 400g.

What glaze did you use?
I use weathered feldspar.
Which feldspar to use is important, and firing is reduction firing.
@@kiraku-pottery Thank you
is this a raku clay?
Thank you for your comment.
It is similar to Raku Clay, but slightly different.
However, you can make similar works.
Thats a cool saggar! I need one. Why saggar if your kiln is gas?
Thank you for your comment.
I fire in an electric kiln.

Thank you! Is there any smoke because of the charcoal?
thank you for your reply.
If the firebox is sealed, there will be no smoke, but there will be a burning smell. Please try small items first.
Thanks a lot for your video, could I ask you how big the chawan is, WxH, normally, is there any spec(size) for chawan?
Thank you for your comment.
There are various sizes of bowls, large and small.
Generally, I think that there are many φ13 cm to φ14 cm.
I always love your video and tutorials. This is reminds me Toyozo Arakawa's Shino bowls.
Thanks for your comment!
You are familiar with Japanese pottery.
I aimed for Shino's bowl!
@@kiraku-pottery I do have collections of Japanese pottery. They are so beautiful.
I think so, too.

Beautiful bowl! Thank you for this video!
Thank you for your comment.
The beauty of Japanese matcha bowls is that they are distorted.
Lovely
Thank you.

Awesome tutorial! I'd like to ask, how difficult is to do chawan for a beginner? I'd love to really try it
